Am i missing something with all these comic book movies?

First off I was never into comic books. I went along with a friend to see Batman begins years ago which I thought was amazing and prompted to watch the rest of the trilogy. I saw spiderman1 (didn't think much of it). Otherwise, I don't watch this movie genre. But I look up and literally like every other movie coming out is a comic book movie. And I'm hearing about all these record sales for these movies that are even surpassing other epic movies. So am I missing out on something or is this just all unwarranted hype?

I was pretty much you until last year OP. Never read comics, loved Batman Begins, finished the trilogy (didn't like DKR tho). and never touched them again. Got insanely annoyed by constant comic book films.

Infinity War just caught my eye and before I knew it, I saw all 18 MCU films. Basically, I got over hating comic book movies and turns out I love them and they're actually good films.

Nah dog.

They are real popular now because it is socially acceptable to be man-children in public now. The soyvelution has taken over and the neckbeards are ridin' the wave boyos.

Comics have always been popular but the movies are retardedly popular right now.

They can shovel out any comic movie right now. It can get terrible reviews and people will still go to the movie to check it out. Guaranteed profits basically.

Watch Iron Man on a lazy sunday OP. If you like it then jump to Captain America: The First Avenger.

If you like those then you can go back and watch Iron Man 2-3, Thor + Thor: The Dark World, etc.

Guardians of the Galaxy is pretty unique, I know alot of people who loved it but aren't interested in the others.

I'm only going to watch something comparable to DK trilogy. Are those movies comparable?

Hollywood realized that there was a sudden drop in the average person's attention span due the need of instant gratification and social network attention whoring.. This happened around the time ********, youtube and twitter became huge which is a great reflection in the sudden drop of quality in movies.. There are no more movies with actual good plots, even indie movies are retarded nowadays. Add the commercialization, agendas and now apparently inclusion riders are a thing..

The MCU is > Batman Trilogy IMO and Batman Begins was my #1 superhero film for years. But the MCU is unprecedented so its hard to compare anyways. Just know there's alot more fantasy/sci-fi in the MCU.

But if 18 films is too much, the bare minimum I'd recommend (in order) are:

-Captain America: The First Avenger
-Avengers (2012)
-Captain America: The Winter Soldier
-Guardians of the Galaxy
-Captain America: Civil War
-Thor Ragnarok
-Infinity War

And even then, you're gonna miss out on a fuk ton of story and references. Highly recommend tho. I used to hate on comic book movies too, until I watched them.

well, you just answered you own question. The vast majority of people grew up reading comics or at least watching the cartoons. Its neat to see live action variants of these characters, and regardless of you're opinion they are entertaining and mindless fun to watch.

the infantilization of the modern "male".

>now its ok for men over 15 yo to waste time playing video games
>anime/cartoons
>super hero movies
>not taking action and resolving problems
>always whining about something (remember when men didn't whine like little pus$ies?)

>entitled mentality, thinks the world owns them something

I blame this on hollywood, education, and this rotten marxist culture exported worldwide.

long gone are the days when men used to be men and women be women.

do any of these have a good plot/writing/top tier acting? or is the entertainment value from special effects and action?

It's perception, men have wasted time doing things for years.

And before you blame super heroes - most of these characters existed, had movies, and were popular back in the "good ol' days". It's just now the movies are bigger in scale.

The Captain America films have by far the best plot and also more grounded realistic themes. Mostly because Cap is a super soldier in WW2 and not an intergalactic god. Avengers 2012 is pretty standard blockbuster action.

The other films have mediocre to very good stories, and plotlines/character development is interwoven between all of them, since it's a combined cinematic universe. For instance Doctor Strange will pop up in a Thor movie and that interaction is build up to a future movie.

This, along with writers can be lazy because the material is already there and they have zero original thoughts.

I have enjoyed about half the super hero movies I've seen (maybe 10-12 since batman begins came out)

Nahhh. Batman is more serious, dark and overall more "adult". MCU is Disney-tier, feel good movies. If you watch one MCU movie you pretty much watched them all.

Lol but honestly there's not much in the Batman Trilogy more shocking or savage than MCU. Trying to remember what's the worst that happened in Nolan's trilogy:

-Bruce loses his parents
-Rachel gets blown up in a building, zero gore shown albeit sad.
-Some people get their back or neck snapped.

All this happened recently in the MCU (spoilers):

Spoiler!

-Thor loses his father
-Thor forced to watch his brother, his best friend, and most his people murdered
-Cap watches his best friend die
-Mass genocide
-A hero dies, and then brought back to life to be murdered again
-A father kills his daughter
-etc etc

I think the difference is Batman feels more realistic.

This is why Justice League was such a massive box office smash.
