I don’t listen to joe. Probably
Because every time there’s a thread posted about something he said it’s dumb.
Easy for him to say 9-5 is lame when he’s rich and famous.

The debate is solved here:
Tomorrow someone puts 10 million in your bank account.
Whatever you're currently doing, would you ever do it again? Maybe not 40 hrs/week. But would you ever do the activity, just casually for enjoyment?
If the answer is no, you are in some form of cope. Sorry, 'tis the truth.

Just lol if you are not coming home after 5 and working on your business/side hustle to eventually quit your day job/retire.
If your side hustle/business fails than fuk it you have a day job to fall on.
If it succeeds quit the day job and work full time on your side hustle/business.
Win-win.
Your not hungry enough to succeed to eventually retire. if you have no kids no wife you got a lot of time to get things done when you come back home. Whats y'all excuse?

I dunno man, I just don't see that kind of opportunity. I've researched alternatives to the 9-5 and even did freelance gigs for a while but besides *******s trying to sell you chit, I didn't find anything that makes sense to actually make more money than working a regular job.
Maybe you have a talent that's in high demand and 99.9% of people don't have, maybe you were lucky to find out about an opportunity that because of time or talent isn't open to almost anyone else. Have you considered that?
Are you sayin there are no 30/40yo people who are still broke and miserable because pursuing their dreams and so on?
I just think you should give a break to all the people talking about having a high stress job. It's not complaining, it's just sharing their reality. The stress, whether part of the job or just part of their personal circumstances, is real. And if they are in fact doing that and not making bank like you just working 4/5 hours a day, then perhaps it's not because they're retards and could be doing as well as you just researching something on the internet and applying it for a couple years. It's because there wasn't that kind of opportunity, or at least because they didn't see it and thought 9 to 5 was their only option.
So if you're going to criticize at least justify how the average 9 to 5er could have a 2mil+ net worth in less than 10 years, and how it could be done consistently and not just because of luck.

You dont SEE the opportunity. You FIND the opportunity and then exploit it / maximize it. I've had loads of different jobs and have been hustlin since I was about 13-14 years old. I could literally write a book on all the business ventures I've done. For instance, when I was 16 - I used to work at a small local airfield at a flying school to help pay towards my pilots license. I then started washing rich dudes planes and was charging like £300-400 for a full clean inside and out, which took around 5-6 hours. My only competition was a team of some Eastern European guys who were doing it for a job, so these old pilot dudes wanted to help out a teenager, as all the money I earned from it was going towards my flight training. Fast forward, I started doing this at 3-4 different airfields, each with like 3-7 hangars and around 10-20 planes in each hangar. I then started getting busy, so I contacted my school friends to help me out. Then I had one of my first business ventures. Cleaning planes was boring and time consuming. So I asked my buddies how much they wanted to clean the planes and they said £100. So I was charging £300-400, giving them £100 and then spending my day studying for school, whilst making some decent money for a 16 year old, who was effectively just running payroll/advertising.
This is just one of the many things ive done.
When i was like 17-18, I wrote down 10 hobbies of mine and i set out to make £10,000 from each hobby. I figured that would net me £100K - and it could also open up more avenues / help me network with more people. I did photography, art, fitness, online ecommerce, cycling, aviation - and a bunch of other things. Very quickly, I realised that one of these particular avenues was extremely profitable for me - so I went balls deep in that and the rest is history.
I then spent 6 years or so working for a digital marketing / advertising / web dev. agency with some massive brands, which helped me enormously in getting my name out there for what im currently doing.
100% there are miserable 30-40 year olds who are struggling and persuing their dreams. I didnt say there arent. I'm just saying that they lack the skillset/lack of study / lack of work ethic / lack of self motivation - whatever the fuk it is that they are lacking, which is the reason for their suffering.
I am (if you havent noticed) an EXTREMELY logical/analytical thinker. If you do the same chit over and over again and expect different results - that is retarded. I break down my life with tons of spreadsheets, databases, calculations and so on, to ensure success.
If something I am doing is failing, I bring up every possible fukin scenerio as to why it is failing and then go over each one in insane detail to fix it and see if that solves my problem. I blame this level of OCD on my programming background.
The average 9-5er absolutely cannot bank £2M+ Networth in sub 10 years. For starters, nobody fukin workers 9-5. Even receptionists dont work 9-5. Its nearly always 8-6 or 8-8 and the higher corporate you go, the longer hours it is. The only way to accumulate mass wealth in a short period of time is working for yourself and cutting out the middle man. Otherwise, I guess you have to go Medical (goodluck working 90hours + a week, **** starting pay + 7 years in college and student debts), Banking (same as medical), engineering (Dont know what involved in this) or law (same as medical/banking), or Sales.
Not everyone can be successful / rich, due to tons of reasons. Nature and nurture. Low IQ, Lack of education, lack of work ethic, lack of motivation, perhaps they had kids early who require lots of time, perhaps they have huge debts - whatever the fuk it is.
However, if youre posting on the misc, I dont see why you cant have an extremely good shot at doing so.

I’m sure you worked hard but you must appreciate the incredible amount of luck that HAD TO HAPPEN for you to achieve this.
That’s like Bill Gates coming in here and saying “I was a billionaire at 30....just gotta work hard for it brahs!!”
For most of us, life just ****s us in the ass and we end up working jobs that aren’t that great just so we can afford to live. Got a wife, kids and mortgage? Yeah I’ll just quit my well-paying office jobs to start my ****ing home brew beer business or whatever. Lol get real bruh.

I have luck in the sense that some days, some of my clients will call me up and give me a massive order - but then at what point is this luck - and at what point is this a result of the countless hours of time I've given them to help build up the relationship so that they come back to me time and time again.
Like, I make myself available 24/7/365 to my clients. They have my personal cell number. I will wake up in the middle of the night to deal with them. I will answer calls on holiday. I remember every tiny minute detail about them, so I can maximise conversational ability with them. I remember their hobbies. I send them gifts that cater to their desires - and so on. None of this is luck. Its the result of being hugely analytical, working hard and being consistent.
For my industry, I charge one of the highest rates - because I am offering a bespoke service to seriously high end professionals - people you guys would probably have even heard of. I can get away with charging these rates because I offer the best service and go above and beyond my competitors.
This isnt luck. Luck is a cope.
The bill gates analogy is an invalid point because hes a billionaire / one of the richest men in the world. Do you think its that hard to become a millionaire? Do you even know how many millionaires there are in the world? Theres a lot. Most people who live (own houses) in London are millionaires.
I understand that a lot of you who read my posts think "aw this kid just got lucky / hes lying / he doesnt realise hes lucky" - or all that ****. I promise you thats not the case in the slightest. Anyone can do it. If you dont think you can do it - then youre right, you probably cant.
If you're not even going to pick up a book / study or TRY to take a risk on setting up a business venture - then youre 100% not going to make it.
So many negative nancys here. Unbelievable .

In the next 5-10 years or so, I am looking to write my own cartoon (along the lines of family guy / rick and morty / american dad) , but do all the voices with me and my buddies. I think it would be great fun and a good laugh to do it. Will host it on youtube. Thats the kind of work I want to be doing. If it takes off, fantastic - if it doesnt - at least we had fun.
Getting a lot of you PM me (which is totally cool). If you guys want things to look into, I suggest the following:
Fight Mediocrity videos on YouTube ( I think hes actually a miscer?) - basically book summaries, which are really good and informative.
Books:
4 Hour Work Week - Tim Ferris
Millionaire Fastlane - MJ Demarco (**** title, but its a good book)
7 Habits of highly effective people - Stephen Convey
Meditations - Marcus Aurelius (really interesting concept about stoicism)
This whole thread really reminds me of two distinct divides - which can be summarised by this video

Each to their own, but personally I would always carry on working. But hey, if I was working in corporate / rat race or doing something I didnt enjoy, then of course Id dump it.
If I was an artist, fisherman, carpenter, musician, athlete - or was doing something I really enjoyed, of course I would.

I also work in a steel alloy mill, we just got in a 70 million dollar project. Apparently proudmanlet needs a new jock strap, you should see the blueprints on this thing, the engineering is absolutely marvelous. At first I thought they found a real life Ultrasaurus still alive somewhere and needed a housing for it, but no that was not the case.

People whine about a 9-5 office job when that's paradise for most of the world. Not everyone will be able to smoke cones, talk into a mic and still be a millionaire. The problem with many humans is they all think they deserve something special when they themselves are not.

The harsh reality here is that some people would be much happier being farmers than lawyers but they take 'lawyer' (insert job there) for 'money', and spend their entire lives trying to cope with the fact that they loathe their day to day existence. There are times when I really, really, really, wish I was naturally interested in STEM, accounting, or one of these fields that pays especially well. But unfortunately I have a bit of a feminine psychology when it comes to work, which is to say I'm interested in fields that women like to work in which usually pay pittance. The end result is that I second guess myself a lot concerning potential career paths, because even though I may enjoy the work I'm worried I'll be struggling with financial security for the rest of my life.

The honest life of a steel mill worker:
"I wasn't smart/educated/motived enough to do anything of note, so life placed me in a steel mill. I destroy my body, and waste the best years of my life sweating for an hourly wage. My wife is secretly disappointed in herself for settling for a nobody like me, and her parents know she could do better... but I don't even realize it because I am so tired from work.
When my kids see their friends dad come home in a suit and tie... they get embarrassed and never bring me up in conversations. I think "my ship will come in... I'll carry the clipboard one day"....
But the truth is... I'll die nameless in a steel mill, and my kids will go to college motivated by the fear of every becoming me."

Truth? lol...
unfortunately not everyone is born rich, so learn to adapt, get an education, work hard, set goals, achieve them or you can just give-up because its "too hard" or because you "didnt like it"
some people have no idea how good they have it

and it only works because people are ready to "contribute". there is no critical thinking involved. it works because these people can't tell absolute from relative change. that's why fraudulent schemes work. exactly because of that. Of course there is also the thing that people want "recognition" from their superiors but isn't that the same scheme you find in gangs or criminal organizations? And does it ever end well for most of those people who seek recognition so they can advance their position within the organization? No. Management wants you working for your azz off and expects you to modestly follow. Promotion or pay-rise is an unspoken promise/pipe dream that is fulfilled only for a small percentage of people. Yet these unspoken promises/pipe dreams are the reason most people gullibly stick with companies.
The only group within a company that finds fulfillment both emotionally and value-wise is management. Everyone else is a pawn. A lot of people find their meaning in working in office and being a "pawn". I personally don't understand it. It just seems like an insane waste of potential, like voluntarily stripping yourself off of your soul and individuality. Could you tell whether this kind of mentality has ever been recorded within an historically positive context? 9-5 seems like a nightmare for me personally. Before I starve and have no other choice than to do that, I will try to find whatever I can to be a substitute for this unfulfilling kind of existence. I mean could you imagine how lucky you are to be a human being? To be the most intelligent species humanly conceivable? Why would you literally strip yourself off of everything evolution has endowed you with through millions of years? Just toss it away? That's ****ing nihilism right there.

It's because that guy doesn't have kids. If he had kids, he'd find the need to find a "stable job". The problem is that these days with the layoffs and the kind of turnover there is, there is no such thing anymore.

"I dunno know if he is even still alive or dead.".
Jeeeesus. Wth happened between Henry Rollins and his fam?
Jeeeesus. Wth happened between Henry Rollins and his fam?
The closer we approach the uncertainty of life's ending the more we wish to trade all of the things we have acquired in exchange for all of the things we have lost: wealth for youth, knowledge for fresh curiosity, resignation for hope. We'd trade our wisdom for new experiences, but it is wisdom that will teach us that at the end of the road the only new experience is death.

What's kept me in teaching all these years is the incredible amount of off-days with ZERO responsibility . That's priceless. Starting a 2nd job all summer for 40+ hrs a week that hopefully replaces my current career .
But factor in the repetitive drive to work, disrespectful kids, constantly lowering attention span of students.... it'a job that i DO NOT want 3 - 5 years from now.
