My wife watches that 600lb life show all the time and for such lazy people, they put a lot of effort into eating non-stop.

There are seriously people out there who think they could eat 1,500 calories a day and weigh 300 lbs. The willful ignorance and excuse making is, well, what you would expect of people

My Walmart had the Winchester 124gr "NATO" boxes of 150 rounds for $27.46 ($0.194 per round after tax) in stock today. Bought all four boxes. At least it's better than WWB?

I already had another box, so 5 boxes, 750 rounds.

I have fired 500 rounds of the Q4318 and some amount I forget how much but at least 2x150 of the 'NATO' 124 so far and 'only' had one failure that I recall from them lol (that was the one that FTFire in a G19.4 and then fired in a VP9SK)

All Winchester ammo is suspect, but the WWB and the "for training use only" ammo are the worst.

I'll put this ammo at the top of the rotation for 'bulk FMJ' type stuff (I like the 'save the best for last' kind of usage) so...we'll see! lol

Between 9 and .40, all types combined, I have like 2,400 rounds of Winchester. WTF

Both Sat and Sun? It's definitely more common to make it on Sun because you do a lot more shooting on Sunday, almost all of the instruction is given on Saturday (except known distance aka 'long' range, which is given Sun). The entire story (all 3 strikes) is also told Sat with small vignettes given on Sun. I don't know how they run by you and no two shoots are the same, but expect to shoot 1-2 qualification targets for score on Saturday and many more than that on Sunday

Going to take my CZ 455, but I started looking at a CZ 512 last night too. If I end up buying that I'll just take them both.

I did, shot it a little bit last weekend. I need to take it somewhere and put it on a bench though to get the zero dialed in a bit more. It's fun to shoot, especially with the silencer on it.

Yeah July 14-15. Going to try and go to the range and brush up on shooting positions a little bit before then.

You may have a hard time making rifleman with a bolt action. People do it all the time, but here's where they get hung up:

Stage 2:
Begin standing with unloaded rifle and safety on
On FIRE, transition to seated (or kneeling), load rifle with 2 round magazine, engage target (there are two silhouettes for stage 2, scaled to represent a full size at 200 yards)
Reload with 8 round magazine, continue engaging targets, firing 5 rounds at each of the two
For this you get 55 seconds

Stage 3 is similar, except from prone on smaller targets (3 total targets, putting 3, 3, 4 shots onto each) and you get 65 seconds

Stage 1 is fine, 10 rounds from one mag, standing, and you get 2 minutes (big target, represents 100 yard). Stage 4 is basically unlimited time, it's 4 small silhouettes scaled to represent 400 yard targets (about an inch) and you get 5 minutes.

That's exactly where I read that people using bolt actions struggle. I saw multiple recommendations to only worry about trying to get off eight quality shots and sacrifice two shots in that round rather than rush to get all ten and chance having three or more land off target.

Yes. Around here we go into the timed portions telling people that seven fives score better than ten threes, or some such made up comparison.

The max possible score is 250 points. There are 50 points available on each of stages 1, 2, 3, and then on stage 4 it's scored /50 but then doubled to be /100 (10 shots per stage, scoring rings are 5,4,3,0). The basic Rifleman (they have higher levels now) is 210/250. If you have an accurate CZ bolt, a good loop sling setup (you'll work a lot on that), a good sighting system, and decent ammo (I'd go CCI standard velocity or better than wolf match target/SK standard+), you can rack up big points on that stage 4. And stage 1 is the easiest IMO.

I think it's been 4 years since I shot an AQT for score lol
A 238 with the 10/22, dropped 8 points with a low NPOA on that one target

This was with a 6920 and no sling

It's definitely more challenging with a bolt gun. Got mine with it (Savage Mark II w/ aftermarket Boyds Evo stock & 3x9 AO scope), and for me the hardest stage was the 1st. Of all things that made it difficult, it was the shirt I wore! I wore one of those wick-away "dry" shirts (I forgot what they are called). Super slick material, and the butt-stock kept slipping around.

The 2nd stage is difficult simply because of the time limit, but I can work the bolt pretty fast without breaking sight picture. Thing is to practice transition, and because of my limited hip and hamstring mobility, the only thing I could do is sit criss-cross-applesause style. I practiced the transition to always get a consistent npoa. Note starting foot placement, cross, and rear-end placement on the ground in relation to your target. I did that more than I did dry fire. Kneeling is never comfortable for me, and sitting back on my foot hurt like a bitch.

Prone is the easiest for me, but after several hours at it, my back started to ache. I recommend stretching a LOT

Last, ammo matters. I shot with Fed Auto-Match stuff... standard bulk stuff. Wish I had a supply of CCI Quiet. Rifle shoots excellent with those. Find out what your rifle likes to shoot.

[img]https://i.imgur.com/frjnmy0l.jpg[img]
Ammo definitely matters. So many people show up with the cheapest bulk .22lr ammo available, the old Rem golden bullets, standard federal bulk, whatever else, and as instructors at least around here we don't really say anything about that large group or those flyers possibly just being the ammo, but...those flyers that cost you pointscouldjust be the ammo lol, but you don't want to tell shooters that who aren't good enough to call those shots and have a good idea when it is or isn't the ammo, because it could still also be them.

CCI that comes in a container with individual slots for each round is the starting point IMO. Quiet if it works in your rifle (pretty much means a bolt), or the Mini Mags or Standard Velocity...they can be had a very reasonable prices, rarely misfire, and are quite consistent. The auto match is maybe a little better than some of the lesser bulk but it's still bulk and there is nothing 'match' about it.

Good point about the slick shirt. The under armour or wicking type slide shirts are BAD especially if you have a slick stock like say the stock 10/22 or equivalent with the smooth shiny slick buttplate

I haven't shot it with a bolt, I don't even own a bolt other than a Mosin lol, but it's certainly not an issue if you are pretty smooth with it. With the 10/22 or 5.56 AR I usually ran stage 2 in less than 30 seconds without rushing...make the rifle safe, pick up mags, step back, look around, still on the clock.

But the fudds and the noobs...man...they get like 4 shots off the first time on stage 2 lol

My 455 shoots surprisingly well with the cheap Federal Auto Match stuff at 25 yards but if it likes the mini mags I just got in I'll likely take those to use. I've also got a USGI sling that I've always used to shoot it with, it's a must for me when shooting from a standing position.

Good info/advice guys I appreciate it.

Rifleman is 210 (that's included in a post above...). There are other levels above that more recently as well, but 'the level' is 210

Getting the proper process down and not worrying about score is of course the correct way to do it especially the first time. The vast majority don't make Rifleman score their first appleseed. Regulars to this thread, probably with a semi auto and decent ammo most would.

I never went past 4x power on my scope. The higher power may hurt you in a timed shoot. Too much shake, and subconsciously, you'll try to minimize it while in a respiratory pause. It'll eventually get you exhausted. Working the bolt, I'll try to get 2 shots off during a respiratory pause.
I'm not blessed with riches, but I am rich with blessings.
Thank you, LORD, my God.

Another good point.

We generally tell folks with variable power scopes to use the lowest setting. Usually that meas 3-4x. A fixed 4x is a pretty common scope for this as well.

3-4x is more than you need.

You have to accept the wobble zone, trust your NPOA, not muscle the rifle, and not try to pull the trigger like an on/off button while the reticle or crosshair or post crosses what you perceive to be the perfect spot. Obviously the more stable positions lend themselves to higher power more than the less stable.

I must have missed it when it was previously posted. I'm not overly worried about making Rifleman as much as learning a bit more about shooting from different positions. Sitting at a bench shooting for groups doesn't hold my interest very long.

Yeah I learned that the hard way when I first got the scope. I think I had it around 8-10x and my shots were all over the place.

Another big thing...eye relief. Sooo many folks show up with a scope set based on bench rest shooting, then when they get into prone and 'turkey neck' forward to achieve a consistent cheek weld and sight alignment, the scope is going through their eye.

Do make sure you get prone and try to set the scope in the mounts based on the prone position, if using a scope. Iron sight advantage here...no worrying this.

And use blue/medium thread locker on the screws for the optic mounts...
