I prefer DB to BB, but it is really a matter of preference. BB lets you load on more weight, but the angles are off. Can be bad if you have rotator cuff issues. Also, BB bench kills more lifters than any other exercise.

I have to agree, haven't done BB bench in years. I go much lighter with dumbbells but seem to get better results.

I change mine up once in awhile... the bench/barbell press is superior of course.

You're probably right. It might be best to alternate. Do some DB, some BB.

315x3 is harder. Right now i hit 305x8 for working sets and i can rep the 120s for a clean set of 15 after i do barbell and incline.

Must feel good to hit that point where its the dumbbell itself that's stopping you.

I think there's a good case for alternating. Should do both. I feel like the bench emphasizes slightly different muscles which can get neglected in db and vice versa.

I hadn't lifted with fitness equipment for a solid 2 years prior to this picture being taken. I was almost finished roofing my house this is after work.

What you see here is what I retained from staying active/labour work and eyeballing macros namely always trying to consume 100-140g protein daily.
Spoiler!
Not buying the 110s at 5 slow reps after 2 months lifting on a deficit. Sorry, boyo.

DB's do everything and more with less risk of injury.

Heh I did a double take here - and you're right. Guys I know in my gym just happen to 'forget something' (like shorts) on leg day. Never seen a guy saying "I don't feel like benching, weighted pullups, barbell rows..." etc. But when it comes to squats/deadlifts, etc... you're absolutely right.

I could but it would be a waste of my time. Despite your admitted total lack of development and experience, you've come to an opinion shared by few that have the opposite qualifications

It only takes like 5 seconds.
You max out with Dumbbells at a certain point, while you can keep adding weight to a barbell.

That's it. That one basic thing means you have to eventually do both no matter what if you keep getting stronger. So it's really just a silly debate to debate 1 vs the other.
You could skip out on BB bench, but you'd HAVE to eventually come back to it if you got strong enough.

I imagine for most miscers at their body weights, if they actually lifted longterm, I can't see how they could only use dumbbells.

My gym goes up to 150s, most guys will never need heavier than that.

I like doing both in separate sessions. That being said, I have not had time to get the dumbbell sessions in the past few weeks. Have noticed decreased barbell bench strength and chest seems to be lacking...
