America has a population of 300+ million people with more guns in circulation than there are people. Australia has 20 million which is less than the state of Texas alone. They share a border with a country rife with organised crime and corruption, Australia is an isolated continent. Americans have a different culture/set of values than to that of Australians. In Australia you can legally obtain a firearm through a lengthy licensing/regulatory process, a criminal can obtain one instantly by purchasing one off the street. In America you have the right to defend yourself when you are threatened, in Australia that is not always the case, there have been times when the victim has been held liable for the damage done to the instigator. Just a few of many factors to consider when making a comparison between the two countries.

Not trying to be a nuthugger but dammit we are being cucked over here in Australia and it's only getting worse. Do you really think a buyback would work in America? Or that banning guns would do anything? I'm glad so many Americans stand up for their rights even after these events take place and the libtards jump at the opportunity to push their gun control agenda.

Well yeah these things aren't as simple as people would like them to be. More guns =/= more murders, when you look at it internationally. There are plenty of other countries that border countries with issues that don't have the same problems.

Anyone you know ever had a gun pulled on 'em in Australia? I'd be surprised, unless they're a bikie. "Gun control doesn't stop criminals getting guns" is a fun lil argument, but I'm sure it does reduce it, and it also means we don't have a constant escalation of armaments; we don't have guns so criminals don't need em, so we don't need em, etc.

I don't have extensive knowledge of or a solution to the issues, but arguments (both for and against) guns are almost always so ridiculously emotional that it's absurd

Leftists calling for Milo Yiannopoulos' arrest because two days ago he wrote something about "can't wait for the vigilante squads to start gunning down journalists".

Turns out Ramos had filed and lost a defamation suit against this paper in 2013 and had expressed prior aggression towards the newspaper.

Milo is going HAM threatening to sue everyone who tried to link him to the shooting.

If gun control worked in Australia then you would of seen a statistically significant drop in violent crime rates. Didn't happen. Homicides were already trending down with no noticeable change after the gun ban. However, assault and armed robbery went up. In the USA violent crime peaked in 1990, was on the decline, assault weapons ban 1994, violent crime still on the decline, lifted in 2004, and violent crime still on the decline.

Why are the most vocal in these types of threads fellow Aussies, and almost all of them are cut from the same cloth that says what works here would work in America? I could go against the grain and discuss at length about what I disagree with the mainstream Australian take on it but in the end it would be a waste of time.

To put it short and sweet, the US not only has a continents worth of differences in terms of population, number of guns, culture, criminal elements, demographic makeup AND it borders the lawless Mexico to the south, the biggest and (some would argue) most important reason is the reason the US exists, and that it's founding belief of individual liberty and freedom.

Here in Australia we trade these freedoms piece by piece every time A Current Affair or 60 Minutes tells us we could be safer if we just let the Government reach further into our lives.

As the same way you see the U.K. and certain other European countries grow in violent crime rates. Youโ€™ll see the USA has a very dervirse background which as a whole gives the entire country terrible stats on gun control majority of us gun owners are responsible citizens, who refuse the idea of criminals or an overtaken government to predict our future.

Sorry but our guns ainโ€™t goin nowhere cause Mercia.

Incorrect. If you rank countries by mass shooting death toll Norway, France, Slovakia, Finland, Belgium, Czech, and a few others rank higher.

The left never lets a good crisis go to waste. They'd never pass on using a tragic event like this to take down someone like Milo.

All it takes is a hard hitting 60 Minutes story, backed up by some social media panic and before you know it some new legislation has gone through Parliament and put into practice. It's so quick here that even the backlash to lifestyle altering rules and regulations won't have time to naturally die off before something else comes into focus and we're told we'd be better of banning X or restricting Y even further.

It took a few "one-punch" attacks between a handful of retard young drunk adults, a tragic death or two and some social panic to make our state government introduce lock-out laws for the inner Sydney City to extinguish the once fun and vibrant nightclub culture we had here. So many live music venues, nightclubs and businesses have had to shut down and entire inner city suburbs have changed forever because of it. All in the name of safety. You should just stay home now!

One of the reasons i like Texas is that it's governmental situation at the state level resembles much of what the founders intended. We basically have representatives that lead their own lives and only gather together every other year to make laws. Things move slower here and IMO it's better that way. Nothing worse than a bunch of people sitting around 24/7 getting paid to make laws 24/7.

Who ever said guns cause violent crime? Certainly not me. But guess what, they make it more efficient.

Are you fukn retarded kunt, or did you just not read my post? I specifically stated "it's not that simple", and that "more guns doesn't equal more murders", as well as specifically stating that different countries have different issues regardless of similarities.

All you fukn retards responding to my post (not just the two quoted) have just illustrated my point brilliantly - you don't attempt to engage logic or reason; you don't even read what you're disputing; you simply spew the same unthinking rhetoric over and over.

Bitch and moan all you want but the one not engaging with any logical argument is you. You keep spouting off about how we changed the laws here in Australia, and they worked... as if to say that implementing similar would result in a comparable outcome. Just because you add the little disclaimer about there being more to the argument doesn't mean it's still an idiotic point to make.

Oh you must be the brains then. That's right, guns that fire shots.

No I didn't you dumb fuk; all I said was his rhetoric reminded me of the episode of John Oliver I mentioned - talking about fantasy lands and planet x. I was speaking, very simply, and still am, of the fact that it's an argument of constant abstraction or evasion; that I can't recall ever seeing a logical, non-emotional statement regarding gun control on the misc. Your egoic involvement has you inferring from my post that which I never said. Get over it, fukhead.
