Whatever they drive, tells you SOMETHING about that person. If someone drives a Camry, they're going to be a different kind of person then someone who drives a v8 charger.

Like I said, your frame of reference/scope of knowledge is limited to the lower middle class, no offense.

Call up your local McLaren/Lamborghini dealership and ask how often the cars get leased/financed vs paid in full.

Unless you're buying a simple car that you plan on driving for a very long time, paying in full usually makes zero sense.

Instinct would make me think nicer car = richer person. But given the chance to think about it I wouldn't necessarily make that association unless it were clearly 60k+. We all know how much used Benz' and BMW's cost.

I see so many brokbois (I know where they work and what they make) driving luxury cars that I've learned nice car =/= rich. If I know roughly what they make and they're driving a car I feel to be "beyond" their means I would judge and think negatively of them for being materialistic, trying to stunt when they are poor and making bad financial decisions.

Also not going to lie if I see a woman in a balling ass car I assume her sugar daddy or husband owns or bought it for her.

Absolutely but more by the condition of the car. Cleanliness of the interior. Amount of damage. Stupid looking bumper stickers. Etc.


Also when I see an older guy (25+) in a beater I tend to think he's probably a slacker or a loser. Lets be real, 99% of people out there aren't budget minded driving a beater to save money. They are driving the best they can afford.

At a certain point you have to do the things you want, as long as its within reason. Some people don't want a miserable existence commuting from A to B in a chit-box. You couldn't be further from the truth about my scope of knowledge.

It also seems like you're assuming that someone who leases a McLaren is good with their money. Mike Tyson managed to blow half a billion dollars. The number of professional athletes that have done similar things while driving fancy cars is staggering.

Leasing a new car and financing a new car are unquestionably worse monetarily than buying a chitbox outright that already had its depreciation hit. There is absolutely no refute of that.

None of that dismiss the fact that is still a poor monetary decision.

From my personal experience, being debt free is far more valuable and mentally rewarding than the small amount of vanity joy gained from driving around in a nice car you can't afford. And here is the thing... nobody is saying you can't have a nice car. You can still save and buy a bad ass used car that someone else willingly already took the depreciation hit on.

I think there is some truth here, however, if everyone could buy ONLY with cash, we would see a much different outcome.
People may think I financed my car, but its completely paid off. However, when I see an $80k Benz parked outside, most of the time I would think it's financed but I could be completely wrong.

I agree though that having a nice car has its setbacks from people around you being lazy, hitting it, or just being jealous of what you have that they don't.

I dont really value cars that much. i have always driven a beater and always will.

I would like a nicer car but dont want to pay the payments so there we have it. I dont care what car people drive, i like to look at cool cars like every other guy but have zero intention of buying one.

Recently went from a driving a 20 year old car with a V6 to a recent high performance muscle car and a V8 6.4L

Never settling for less after this.

Only semi downside is everyone tries to race me now. They think I should always be driving like Paul Walker or some chit.

Its not though. Depreciation is the cost of driving something exhilarating and it is well worth it. The experience of buying the perfect car (given your circumstances) and then customizing it to make it your own is hard to describe, you really need to experience it to understand it.

Sure, some guys buy cars just to show off but I rarely meet these people (mostly because they never drive their cars).

The guys I do run into are car fanatics that know every single detail about their car and enjoy driving the absolute piss out of them. They also want to know every detail about your car.
Eat in a deficit to lose weight.
Hit your protein and fat minimums to stay healthy and keep your gainz.
Lift heavy and do HIIT to look and feel awesome.
Use the internet to learn why you should do these things and how to do these things.

So what if I don't suck at managing money and $500/month payment is not even a full day of work for me? I like cars and I love the feeling of rev matching going to second around a turn and munching it to get away from traffic (stupid California merging turn lanes). I could drop $60k and own the car, but way more fiscally responsible for me to finance it (800+ credit) and use that money to invest in my future (and have a fun toy). Sure it it would be better to buy $1000 Honda for cash. But you only get a few times around the block and you don't ever know when the ride is going to end so should have some fun while you can.

Mathematically speaking... is it better to finance a new car or get a used one outright? If you can get better than a steady 20% return by investing the money held back by borrowing... then go for it. If not, then it is a bad monetary decision.
