Is it going to help with the whole situation blaming the coach?

Hint: It's not
Didn't say it was. Are any of our posts here in misc going to help the situation?

Hint: They aren't - He still deserves blame though.

Look in the sky, it's captain hindsight! They're still stuck and people's first reactions are to find out who to lynch. Sad. The coach is stuck in there too so I'm sure he is already regretting his decision without the need of a bunch of keyboard warriors to remind him. Comments on events like this always remind me how annoying people are, everyone is an expert and everyone is a perfect genius who would never end up in a similar situation.

Keyboard warrior because I have an opinion on something? Okay..... If I had the chance to tell him to his face that it's his fault they are stuck in there I would. And I never said anything about lynching him or killing him. All I said was he is responsible for underage kids when he is with them. I haven't once said anything about prosecuting him or hurting him for it. I just said he was responsible for them being in there. I wouldn't end up in that situation because I would never have gone into the cave in the first place.

Yes let's judge some soccer coach for trying to take kids on a nice field trip. I am sure he will regret this for the rest of his life, which may be very short. But it's a good thing some miscer thousands of miles away can judge him. fuking negged

This whole scenario is a nightmare. Can't imagine how terrified they are and how sad that the Navy diver died during the rescue.

You're right he likely will regret this for the rest of his life. That still doesn't make him any less responsible though. The whole situation sucks and it's horrible. He's still responsible.

Sometimes criticizing the ACTIONS of someone (and not their person) can help others to learn from their mistakes so as not to repeat them in the future.

Going into a cave where you can become trapped by floods close to rain/monsoon season was a mistake.

Holy chit...this is just incredible levels of cope.

You can't reasonably expect a soccer coach to accurately predict a fuking flash flood. Are you listening to yourself right now?

A "flash flood" is by its very nature unpredictable you fukin moron.

"Flash floods are the most dangerous kind of floods, because they combine the destructive power of a flood with incredible speed and unpredictability. Flash floods occur when excessive water fills normally dry creeks or river beds along with currently flowing creeks and rivers, causing rapid rises of water in a short amount of time. They can happen with little or no warning."

You'll be surprised just how quick they can occur. There is a sad clip of a flash flood in India, a group just walking across a calm river rock bed and in about 5 seconds it's a rapid.

The unpredictability of a flash flood is because of the nature of the flooding during the event. Exactly what you quoted as how it fills normally dry areas very quickly. However, predicting that conditions are favorable for this to happen in the first place is common. It has just happened a lot recently where I live.

What is a flash flood watch?

According to the National Weather Service, issuing a flash flood watch indicates that the conditions are favorable for a flash flood. It does not guarantee that the area under the watch will endure a flash flood, but provides a heads up for area residents or visitors.

What is a flash flood warning?

A flash flood warning can mean that a flash flood is currently occurring or that a flash flood is imminent in the area under the advisory.

I'm done going back and forth about this so this is all I'll say. I never said the coach could predict this. I'm saying that the possibility of flash floods occurring because of favorable conditions (much like other weather events) IS PREDICTABLE. That is the reason flash flood watches and warning occur. The nature of the flooding during an actual flash flood is the unpredictable part because areas of towns flood suddenly because of poor drainage or other reasons.

You realize this occurred in Thailand and they were already out on a field trip before they decided to go to the cave, right?

How can you reasonably expect the coach to have been aware?
