Variety is the spice of life. Usually lights on, but there can be a bit of mystery/intrigue in banging in the dark, especially if you go hard on teasing/foreplay. My girl and I are really secure in how we look, so I can bend her over the bathroom counter and do it in front of the mirror in full lighting. My ex was more self conscious and it's impossible to get a girl off if they're overly worried about how they look (enter, alcohol). I wouldn't say it's necessarily narcissistic to have sex with the lights on, rather self-confidence.
