That engine and body style are embarrassing. At the very least this thing better be bullet proof like it’s predecessor and be able to handle close to double its power on the stock block. Highly doubtful though. Wtf were they thinking with this?

Yeah this has been rumors/semi news for a while. Going to be overpriced and nothing like the original thus ruining most of why people liked them in the first place. Honestly wish they'd just restomod these for the most part with similar looks and just some updated tech and performance.

Look at the NSX (cool car but not like the original). Give it time, honda will phuk up the s2k too.

[QUOTE=FFailed post_id=1556085281]Is this real life? 80k for an automatic Toyota that puts out 4cyl turbo #s. They should of just came up with a new model instead of ruining the Supra name with this pathetic attempt. So you are paying German car prices for a Toyota with lesser performance. Seems legit

Should have just done a resto-mod style design and then market them comparable to mustang gt and Camaro pricing.

Seems manufacturers forget that the mind set of someone who wants these cars also looks at what they can get or build for the money.

It shares the same powertrain and platform as the Z4 so.. it's probably going to disappoint.

I currently drive a BMW M240i, which more or less hass the same transmission / engine combo that this car will have.

Point A - The B58 engine is underrated, it puts down the power claimed to the wheels. So I would say crank seems to be more around 400hp/400tq at least. Very easily tuned motors.

Point B - the 8 speed ZF transmission the new Supra will have is better than a manual. In manual mode, it is almost as quick as a dual clutch auto. There's no lag whatsoever.

1. how come a lot of big manufacturers lately build sports cars that resemble BMWs or at least have very high resemblance of eachother.
2. didn't they abandon Supra and wasn't GT86 supposed to be the next generation? why are they rebranding something that clearly resembles a Toyota GT86? That thing doesn't look anything like the Supra. It's an utter punch in the face for all the fans tbh. Cool job tho rebranding a Toyota GT86 as a Supra for dat dere sentiment gains

I mean if we are going off paper numbers the STi is 305hp 290 torque from a four banger. The new focus is 350hp/350tq off Fords four banger ecoboost setup. To see an inline 6 with a turbo make less than the RS a bit more than the dated EJ motor/setup makes me sad.

I know there is more to it such as power/weight ratio but those numbers seem way low.

The Supra is iconic. Those engines were way ahead of their time. If Toyota’s idea this time around is to copy some bmw engine that can’t even handle the power the old engine can is just stupid. Like others have said, there are 4 cylinders putting Dow more power stock.

What stock 4-cylinder with no mods is putting down that much power other than the 718s? Amongst sports cars of course. And you retards do realize there is more to a car than power right? Maybe? This thing has to handle well too and the driving dynamics need to be top tier. Anyone can build a fast car. Let's wait and see. Hopefully it doesn't disappoint like the new NSX did. Anyone can build a car to go fast in a straight line. Inflation has to be taken into account as well as competition and demographics. If you try to sell a car based on the demographics and competition of when the first Supra came out it'll be a failure from a business standpoint. So they'll have to stick to some core routes but at the same time create something innovative and right now, just raw power isn't really impressive. R&D for handling and aerodynamics is much much more complicated.

Completely different market. I have a Golf R that's Stage 2, runs 11.67 on 100 octane so the hatchback world is familiar to me and anyone that thinks my car isn't a sports car gets a real newsflash. But still - not really too many cars making that much power as 4-cylinders. And the Focus RS blows up on track pretty easily and is at the limits of its block. The Ecoboost stangs are garbage imo and don't pack the same heat as the RS. And it's not new really, Ford discontinued production on it.

True - it still has better numbers stock though. I still am sad that a 6cyl turbo making low 300s though. I mean the 1990 300zx twin turbo was making 300 horses, that's nearly 30 years ago. I mean what the NA v6 mustangs make 300hp?

This is all speculation though until it all comes out. If it's true that it's going to be that under powered I will be very disappointed.

Numbers only paint a small picture. Where does it build boost? Where does the power and torque drop off? How quickly does it build boost? Essentially area under the curve. And N/A v6 mustands are a joke man even though they make 300hp. A really slick tech savvy transmission with aggressive gearing and a solid motor that is underrated with a drivetrain with excellent traction will put this car probably in the low to mid 12s in the quarter mile from factory which is a solid starting point but for 80 grand it's a complete waste of money that I will agree with. It should cost less than a Z4 imo, I would say 50-60 tops would be ideal. We are using modded Supras as a basis for what the new Supra should be. This thing to be competitive at the 80 grand price point will need to make between 400-500hp and 400-500lb/ft with an excellent chassis and drivetrain. The market needs to be there, 80 grand gets you an M3, 718, grand sports etc... list goes on and on.

You listed the Porsche's which I said, the CLA45 and S60, Ecoboost are not competitors. Type R and STI don't put down similar numbers. 300HP Type R isn't comparible to a M240i which will walk away from it. Lol STI, probably overrated for that ancient ass 4-cylinder and can't handle any mods. Plus AWD drivetrain loss. Still we are all on speculation here. Let's find out. Ultimately I agree - would laugh if it has 3xx hp and costs more than 40 grand.

This. people still looking at numbers. 2Jz power curve was fantastic and ahead of its time. was fun to drive. it was always a massive torque monster from down low. Lol if you compare this with the lil boxer turbo engines who need to fill the turbos before launch.

Also need to look at the 86, balance and fun was amazing despite lacking big numbers.

If this has similar handling and balance to the 86 with twice the power it would be a great car.

Solid post and true. I know there is much more than just power that goes into it but it's also that big price tag. I'd rather just get a BRZ/FRS for 25k at that point. 80k price point can get you a used GTR and tons of other cars. Even though I love Supras, there needs to be good power/overall package for that price point.
