I do think I'll need to simply train less jiu jitsu, though--certainly fewer days. I'll still progress. I've felt a bit like I HAVE to go often or I'll forget everything, but that doesn't really make sense.

Could be it. I'll definitely never reuse a towel again! Even this week, I just stocked up on a bunch of small towels to use so I won't be drying myself with any single towel more than once before I wash it.

I do wear a rash guard, but it's been so darn hot I haven't been wearing long-sleeved ones, and I also train quite a bit nogi. Like I said, I got some long-sleeved rash guards on order and will start wearing them.

I also think my academy should start washing the mats between every class, not every two classes, but that's a big ask. I brought it up tentatively (as something my doctor requested) to the instructor I trust the most.

Your mom.
Training that much isn't an issue as long as you're getting enough food and sleep. Sometimes that **** just happens. Have you ever been to Donaher's gym? I wish I could train there a while, those guys are beast and most people ignore leg locks.

Yeah, certainly my gym doesn't emphasize them. I'm a white belt, though, so under IBJJF rules can't do a whole lot with the legs anyhow. I haven't trained anywhere else yet--I figure I want to immerse myself in the culture of one gym first.

Sleep's been sacrificed a bit also because I have a girlfriend now, but she's on balance a stress reliever and also an athlete so she gets it. Food is good. Not trying to cut now that I've been sick + training so hard, but probably will leading up to comp and modulate training accordingly.

How long did you train BJJ? Why'd you stop?

I hear it works especially well if you mix it with bleach.

Dr Rhonda Patrick has an interesting staph story/cure with garlic paste.

Obviously I wouldn’t do it to replace the cream but it’s still worth looking into.

Trained for ~7ish years but got a nasty injury (doing something else) - considering getting back into it now depending on how well an experimental treatment works on it

yikes!

Yeah a lot of people I know at BJJ are veterans of multiple surgeries... seems like most accommodate somehow. Good luck.

I went to urgent care and the doctor there said, 'nah fam, it's not ringworm, looks like staph infection/impetigo, here is antibiotic cream prescription.'

So I have antibiotic cream and instructions to apply 2 x daily until it goes away, unless it's MRSA and doesn't go away and I DIE (no, she said if it doesn't go away then I can come back).

This would all be fine except I have also been feeling run down/sick to my stomach for the past few days and what if the infection is in my blood and I DIE????

Hold me misc. Also please don't be all 'ew gross' and mean to me, I didn't post pics in this thread and for once you should all be grateful.
Staph and Strep are reglar visitors. Meaning they are always all over everything, your clothes, your bed, your walls, your car, every surface, including your skin.

Body bacteria serve an important function. They take up space where the colonize your skin surfaces (including your intestine lining, as epithelial tissue similar to skin) which prevents bad bacteria from making a home there.

Unless bad bacteria somehow managed to make a home there already.

How do you know the difference between good and bad bacteria. Whats the difference between good and bad staph?
Bad staph has tools to dissolve and damage human tissues. Since those tools come in the form of genes it is possible to have some but not all of the 'bad' tools. In other words there are varying degrees of 'bad' bacteria. Like some just have simple weapons and some have more advanced tactical nuclear devices. 'flesh eating bacteria' is simply a bacteria like any other (such as staph) that has gotten ahold of some pretty nasty tools and can easily invade tissues, necrotizing fascitis I believe is the term. The limb needs immediate amputation to save the life.

If you have a bacterial 'infection' it can still be a 'good' bacteria. Sometimes you get a small cut and some of the harmless staph gets in. it still causes an immune reaction, redness, inflammation, all of that can occur. The key difference is that the more dangerous bacterias are more well equipped to fight your immune system and destroy tissues.

The stand-out thing in all of this to remember is simple. If the wound should seem to be getting better fast, then it will probably be fought off and you will win the battle with the help of antibiotics which are extremely powerful bacteriacides. Battles usually go one way or the other, after all. It is unlikely to stall out, and if it does 'stall and not seem to get better' then that is ANOTHER bad sign of nasty tools as work(disabling the antibiotics), and defeating your immune system or at least immobilizing it to some degree which could be serious. Do not delay if the battle looks to be stalling or going the other way.

If we're nogi I've been known to grab a quick single leg, but yeah, in the gi it's like a joke, judo is so effective against a noob like me who doesn't understand different posture in gi than in nogi.

Wow, you wrote me a thesis there.

Yeah, luckily I can see that the infection already seems to be receding.

read on if strong stomach

...

........

okay, so, the gross yellow pus stuff is gone and the wound is drying out and not raw anymore, and the surrounding redness/few scattered bumps are fading.

Also, the doctor prescribed me an additional antifungal cream to alternate with the antibiotic cream, twice a day of each. They're 2% concentration creams, which my gf (a pharmacology phd student) says is quite strong and good. I'm using a gauze pad and tape to thoroughly cover the area. I know this is weird TMI, but it honestly makes me feel a lot better to write down all the proactive steps I'm taking to take care of this. It's reassuring.

Upside is I'm getting some much-needed rest and my body is much less achy than it's been recently. I think I'm going to come back to training strong.

I'm taking antibiotics and tonght I felt INCREDIBLY sick--hardcore nausea, stomach pain so bad I couldn't walk, skin got cold and clammy and I felt extreme dizziness

fukkkked upppp

my friend was freaked out because I couldn't get up to walk home from dinner, but he stuck with me and I made it and feel a little better now

but I'm quite scared because the last time I had symptoms like this, it was a perforated ulcer that required emergency surgery, and I'm afraid I have THAT again. But likely it's just the antibiotics--I've heard they can have extreme effects--right?

I had a nasty fungal infection in my arm from training once. At first I thought it just were some mosquito stings and didn't do anything. It ached and I thought I must have scratched it. Than suddenly I looked like I had psoriasis.
Luckily the cream worked well.

How long have you been doing BJJ?
I felt the same way in the beginning, but as soon as I had some basics down I started learning much faster and easier.

It's totally different learning a choke, which you have never seen than being "ah that's the choke the strong purple belt always gets me with, when I try to sweep him."
It's much easier to learn an escape, when you have tried to escape a certain position without a using a specific technique and always end up being blocked at a certain point.

Last year, had a pimple on my elbow, which I popped. Played football in the dirt, went to work the next day, and rubbed it in all day. 3 days later I had a 105 temp, and had emergency surgery for staph. Was on antibiotics for months. I've not been the same, I've developed extreme anxiety, and each day is a battle. Don't fuk around, make sure you get the proper care. It can affect your mental health the worst.
