Colorado man shoots and kills intruder who broke into his home.....

and then the cops shoot and kill him

https://www.thedenverchannel.com/new...inutes-earlier
AURORA, Colo. – Police confirmed Monday afternoon that the man they shot and killed early Monday morning is believed to have shot and killed another man who had broken into his home minutes earlier.

The police shooting happened around 1:30 a.m. at a home near E. Montview Boulevard and Iola Street. Officers had been called the house on reports that a man had broken into the home.

“Officers arrived to a very chaotic and violent scene,” Aurora Police Chief Nick Metz wrote in a news release issued Monday afternoon.

Metz said officers who arrived at the scene heard gunshots inside the home and ran into an armed man. An officer shot the man, who died at an area hospital.

After clearing the scene, according to Metz, officers found a juvenile injured inside and a man shot dead on the bathroom floor. The child was taken to a hospital for “serious, but non-life-threatening injuries” caused by the intruder, he said.

Both men’s identities will be released by the Adams County Coroner’s Office, Metz said. The officer who shot the resident of the home is on standard paid administrative leave.

The Aurora Police Major Crimes Unit, the Denver Police Department and the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office will conduct the investigation into the shooting. Police are also asking anyone who witnessed the shooting to call Detective Randy Hansen at 303-739-6710.

“This is a very heartbreaking and tragic situation for everyone involved. We are providing assistance through our victim advocates to help the family of the deceased resident through this very difficult time,” Metz said in a statement.

edit edit: The time doesn't really make a difference as far as what I'm saying. This was a tongue and cheek response and I understand the concern of your home sanctity and uncertainty of the situation. Stand your ground isn't an explicit provision for execution though. Being "up for interpretation" as was established isn't the grounds for equating capital punishment for stepping unlawfuly on to property.

Ideally nobody gets killed. That's not a fitting punishment for an non-lethal intruder. Even if it were, punishment isn't supposed to be carried out by civilians. Under the long arm of the law, the authorities carry out justice, and punishment is determined in court.

So homeowners should wait to to find out if the intruder wants to kill them before shooting?

Also a child at the home was severely injured by the intruder fwiw

"Metz said officers who arrived at the scene heard gunshots inside the home and ran into an armed man. An officer shot the man, who died at an area hospital."

what did you expect cops to do? Sad situation. But he should've shot the intruder then waited for cops instead of shooting next person who walked in.

WTF is that supposed to mean? Here's the deal - if you break into my house, you've already proven you give no ****s. If I don't know who you are, wtf you're doing, and if you are armed. My first assumption is that my life and families life is in danger and I'm blasting you. Nothing to do with justice / punishment, it's surviving.

You don’t have time to determine if they are there to hurt you or your family or not. I don’t break into the homes of others because I’m not a criminal and if I did I’d expect to be shot. Iowa has a much better castle doctrine now that states the second someone crosses your threshold, you shoot them in the face...no questions asked. If you aren’t wanted and you broke in...you die. What’s also beautiful...shoot them in the back as they are running away...completely fine by law. If it was determined a felony was committed my the chitems then no civil case can be brought upon the shooter.
