Generalizations are a great way to get to the bottom of things. This cop was awful, yes.
I just wouldn't expect the law to embrace immediate death of the intruder.

This could possibly be the stupidest comment I’ve seen on the misc. Intruder in my house at 1:30 is as good as dead.

A friend of mine is the lawmaker that brought the bill and he crushed it. Instead of having to retreat to the farthest part of your home and hope they don’t hurt you...you bring it to them and end their life.

Just from what I'm reading,

"Instead, if a person is "any place where the person is lawfully present," they may defend themselves with deadly force.

Further, the law says "a person may be wrong in their estimation of danger or about how much force is necessary 'as long as there is a reasonable basis for the belief … and the person acts reasonably in response to that belief,'" Pfannenstiel reported."

https://www.desmoinesregister.com/st...und/305665001/

The first part seemingly coincides with what you're saying, but the next part at least starts to suggest that you have to feel violently threatened. Of course that could be up for a good deal of interpretation. I mean though it just sounds more complicated thanshoot in the facewithout any other circumstantial consideration.

Nothing against cops but they are retroactive. Most of the time they show up after the crime has already happened. Dude should wasted the intruder and then called the cops. After all, cops are humans and in some cases dumasses that make horrible mistakes.

You said it “up to interpretation”...

Lol at America

You can use readily force to protect your home, but if a cop is nearby when you do that they'll kill you for doing so.

I wasn't that adamant or serious about it. But aside from killing in self defense, the court legal punishment for intrusion obviously isn't anywhere near death. There's just a disconnect between that and what everybody's responding with: Well it's 1:30 so that's pretty late to not be killing people.

I wasn't talking about that law. I was generalizing how cops are idiots who shoot first without assessing things beforehand.

this is why you announce yourself before making entry, give commands to drop weapons / show your hands & listen to what is said & who says it. who gives a fuk if it scares off the intruder. that is why you secure the perimeter. once everyone is disarmed, pretty easy to figure out who the h/o & dumb fuk POS intruder is. no excuse here unless the h/o did something highly fking retarded like ignored the officers then raised or pointed his gun towards them but i highly doubt he would have done that. fukk this is sad. hopefully the bodycam will come out. this goes to show MORE training is needed in these types of situations.

this as well.

alternative scenario: cops didnt announce when making entry, h/o thinks its still the bad guy he shot at but hadnt killed yet, then pulls gun on cops, end of story. I just cant fathom how, if the officers announced their presence, that the homeowner wasn't like IM IN HERE I AM THE HOME OWNER I AM PUTING MY GUN DOWN HELP ME

No, this is stupid. You have no idea what the intentions of a person that breaks into your house are. You just know they don’t respect your property rights and don’t care about the law. It could be a serial killer there to kill you or a ****phile there to kidnap your child. You can’t know.

So if you don’t want to die, don’t break into my house.

threat is determined by the person and how they felt, not whether there was a real threat. Look at the Trayvon case where an butt kicking was being handed out and the guy felt his life was in danger. So men agreed while at the same time changed the channel to watch MMA/boxing where a guy got hit harder yet lived, watched funny vids of people getting themselves hurt harder yet lived, probably know a person who was in a more brutal accident yet lived, so a guy beat up and kicked while unconscious yet lived, but a 17yr olds fits are too much......Even Tyson at that age was no match for deadly Trayvon. I don't understand this need to kill all the time, how messed up must you be to want to kill folks all the time. Plus I have noticed this "nothing of value was lost" thing running around here, I am yet to see it used on a Cauc.

This. If someone breaks into your home, do what you have to do to get to a safe area after the shooting. Preferably walk out onto your front lawn, lay the gun in the grass, and have your hands up when the police arrive. Make sure they know that you aren’t a threat.

No, the best option is to take out any threat as soon as possible. If you think criminals, like the kind that break into your house, will have any mercy on you then I hope your life insurance is paid up.

This really upsets me brahs, that cop needs to be in jail... If someone breaks into my house first thing I'm going to is lethal options. Guarantee you the cop that murdered this guy defending his home would of 100% done the same thing to someone breaking into his home.
