Got back into the Basil Hayden's last night - the stuff is overpriced for how simple it is, but man is it drinkable.

I've recently found 2 other bottles of Elijah Craig barrel proof, both of which are fantastic. For$50 it's hard to pass it up.

In the Ancient Age vs. Benchmark No 8 battle of the cheapies - I think Benchmark wins by a nose.

It has a more 'bourbony' flavor to me, whereas AA is more sweeter. I like them both, but like Benchmark more.

Big time. I still drink a beer on Sundays after cutting the grass (NOTHING better than a cold one after yardwork) but yes bourbon is zero carbs.

I know it's not bourbon, but is it bad that I like Seagram's 7 as my favorite cheap whiskey?

Yes, enjoyable for sure. Light smoke for an islay scotch but higher percentage. It’s easy to thin out too much if you are adding water (which you may as it’s 46%). As always, I recommend neat but if you do dilute it it will go down like water as it loses flavour (not a good thing in my opinion).

Inb4 2700 for a bottle.

I've been saying forever that once more and more older aged bourbon comes out it will really change the whisky game. Look at how long scotch has been made vs how long bourbon. Much older scotches are available at much cheaper prices.

The owner of my local bourbon bar, who is a very well respected player in this area's bourbon game has told me on different occasions he thinks anything beyond 12-14 years is overkill for bourbon. He was all fired up over how bad (he thought) the Elijah Craig 18 year was compared to the 12 year and even his own barrel picks.

benchmark seems to give me more of a hangover effect - mostly just a headache

totally anecdotal and could be contributed to many other things

I'll buy and drink either though - esp for ~$20 for the big jug

one store had the big bottle of buffalo trace for sale - wanted $100 for it - laughed and walked out with my AA

Here in Florida I'm starting to see Buffalo Trace out of stock on some of the shelves, and the price has crept up a bit.

Eagle Rare still the sleeper from BT in terms of value/availability, I hope it lasts.

eagle rare is, well, rare here just like all other BT products. it is good though

the bourbon market is absurd compared to 4-5 years ago. I remember the shelves full of BT, Elmer T Lee, eagle rare, rock hill, etc and now they've become bottles that people will drive an hour or more for.

Yeah about 10 years ago I went to my local bottle shop looking for a birthday gift for a buddy, the guy introduced me to Pappy, they had every expression available at reasonable (for what you got) prices.

The guys that can still get Weller easily have finally shut up about how good it is, hopefully the secret stays safe.

I just finally got a bottle of the Weller Special Reserve last week. I like it, but I dont love it. I certainly dont get all the hype around it??

BT is $25.32 here for a 750 and $50 for the handle. It's impossible to find here in Central Ohio but if I go to my wife's hometown about 75 minutes away the shelves are always full. Go figure.

Exactly. Weller is chit, don't know why people keep buying it.

Weller 12 is the same juice going into the barrel as Pappy, and aged the same length as Pappy, but in less favorable parts of the warehouse. It's practically Pappy, but $30 a bottle and fairly widely available. It's a delicious wheat bourbon, but I think it is mainly spillover hype from Pappy mania.


BT has gone from $25 here to around $35-40. With stock being restricted I assume they'll just jack the prices higher.

bourbon and scotch are two different animals. if Scotch was aged in new barrels like bourbon for 15 plus years most of it would be absolute garbage even with the milder climate. over 15 years for a bourbon with very few exceptions gets too woody and loses a lot of the character that makes it so f'n good ( here again this is my opinion, feel free to add to this discussion)

Haven't scanned the entire thread so don't know if it's been mentioned.

Strictly for the money, Four Roses is the best bang for your buck bourbon out there. It's usually on sale for $18/bottle and tastes legit.

It's not my favorite nor the best tasting, obviously, but it's awesome when you don't want to dive into the good stuff.

guys

WHERE DA FOOK DO YOU FIND A STORE WITH A WIDE WHISKEY SELECTION?

SRS. Im in north jersey and sure, you have your shoprite liqours, and average liqour stores, but are there any stores that specfically designed on niche and rare and variety of whiskeys? every store its the usual suspects, where does one go to try something completely out of the ordinary?

Bought another bottle of Knob Creek Single Barrel last night. I think this might be my favorite high octane drink at 120 proof.

I (think) like it even more than the Elijah Craig Barrel Proof of which I have 2 different bottles of at home.

The Knob Creek is just so sweet and easy sipping without all the burn, I love it.
