ya in retrospect I goofed. I had just finished a 12 week block and was tapered, and my goal for the day was 390. 390 went up without issue and I felt I had about 10lbs left in the tank, but not 15. I've always had the mentality I'd rather hit a lift with some in the tank then miss a lift which can cast doubt in the future when u try the weight again. Well 400 wasn't too bad either, but by then my strength was pretty much depleted for the day. Should have just gone for 405 off the bat.

Mark bell i think had a thing on this not too long ago, a little blurb in a video ( if i remember right). If you know anything about T levels, going from 500 to, say 800 (which is higher t) is nothing. The 'benefits' are not going to affect you like you think.

If you are an average dude, and apply a good/appropriate plan for sleep, food, training you will get to higher numbers probably much faster than you think. Specialization may be required at a certain point - like a said.

You and many like you, limit yourself with that mentality. If you want to bench 405 lbs natty, make it happen (if that's what you really want). Start adjusting your life to make all of the details fit that goal. Routine, macros, emotions, thoughts. Before you go to bed, think about lifting that weight. When on the pooper think about it. WHen eating, think about it. Eventually you are so driven to push that bar it's almost your life's mission.

Gym ponies dont have a clue what it takes to get there. They just see genetics, roids wherever they see someone actually strong - as to justify why they are weak.

You are weaker because you choose to be. It has nothing to do with being natty or not.
You aren't an astrophysicist because you don't choose to be. You aren't an NBA player because you don't choose to be.So everybody has exactly the same frame, bone density, joint strength, nervous system and strength genetics? Lol, NO.

This.

I've been lifting in gyms for over 15 years, and have seen 405 lifted by 3 different people. All of them were juiced to the gills.

315 is possible by just about anyone

Nobody is touching 405 natty unless they have top .0000000001% Mark Henry genetics from childhood.

Obviously those are examples of a different magnitude. Also, it's not as if I was ignoring physical exceptions, just addressing the generality of average men. Could they become world elite lifters? prob not. Could they be stronger? yes they can.

315 with loose gym bro programming is doable, though maybe scenic in the amount of time it takes.

405 will prob require real programming and a step up in nutrition but is doable - for a dedicated natty.

You are strong as fuk, but also full of chit.

Almost no one gets to 315 with chit programming, but it is obtainable by most 200 pound people IFFFFF they decided to dedicate themselves.

However, virtually universally people don't just stop after they meet that 315 threshold. They keep going... Yet almost no one makes it to 4 plates. Almost always because of some sort of injury.

Chalk it off to bad luck or weak effort if you want, but these are the same arguments MLMers use to dupe their next target into their pyramid scheme. The odds are the odds.

This, feelz bad mane.

OP you're 6'1 and nearly 300 lb. please consider that before you write off anyone that can't bench 225x5-10 within a year of training. someone that is 5'10 170 lb. benching 225x10 is strong. strictly in terms of bodyweight that would be equivalent to you pressing 365x10.

bodyweight should be the #1 consideration when we're talking about how much someone can bench, how long it should take, etc etc. Genetics should be #2.

There is almost no chance for most Natty's to get anywhere NEAR four plates. If you're benching 3 plates for reps natty, you're either fat AF or you have great genetics.

I got to 365 x 3 in 4.5 years from a 115lb starting bench. OP is making me reconsider bloatmaxxing and getting into the 400's. I srs think if I gained 25lbs over 3-4 months, I'd be repping 405 easy.

I started lifting in 1998. Hit 405 natty for the first time in 2011. Hit 500 teched in 2016

I'm close to 500 now but I'd be shocked if I actually got it

405x10 does not translate to a 500lb bench for me

Also benched 315x21 and 225x41

Also to OP:

I first hit 405 @ 26, natty but was bloated up to 270lbs.

Hit it again @ 31, after not benching for about 6 months. I was solely doing incline and dumbbells due to a nerve issue in my trap.

Gonna be 34, and I should be over 405 by end of the year, sooner if I can get healthy.

It was my goal to get to 405 by my 40th birthday and I got pretty close 375. But I got into a motorcycle accident that required a metal rod be inserted into my right humerus right after my birthday so my dreams of four plates is dead for now.

I have a 405x5 bench thread I posted on around Saturday. And yea there are some guys on here with stronger benches. Seen one guy I wanna say that was sub 200 who benched 500.

Not everyone has the same goals. If You want to powerlift and focus on lifting super heavier and heavier then yes i agree your program needs to be designed to help get to where you want to go most efficiently. But the vast majority of people, especially those over like 35, aren't focused on that in life anymore. At some point man you'll get to the stage in life where other things are higher priority than pushing a weight off your chest. And you'll welcome that balance when it comes. But for now, enjoy

No, but in all seriousness, since beginning of 2020, I have seen 2 guys legitimately benching 405 for reps.

One of them is a friend of mine, who competes in powerlifting and he is around 250-260 lbs, competes in 240 or something.

The other one was like 300 + lbs.

Took me 3 years to do it once @ 230ish, then 2 more years to max at 405x5 at 240ish. Max natty bench was either 315 or 325 can't remember and that took a year or so.

Natty as mike ohearn obviously since I'm not built for bench. Nowadays 405 would pop both my shoulders apart since I only do high, slow reps and haven't benched the bar in forever

Doing 405 for 1 rep natty is the absolute top tier of strength. Even on juice most people won't hit 405 for 1, let alone repping it. I'd say anyone who can rep 405 is not natty.
