Anyone else not care about material things?
Seems like I hear a ton or people brag about material things like cars, clothing, big houses etc.. it’s never appealed to me to have a life full of “things”. Anyone else like this?

I have a life full of things but don't really care that I have them. My family is the most important thing to me. Real talk.

Have friends that spend a chitload on kitchens And remodeling. Don’t have two nickels to rub together but spend like 8 k for marble counter tops and one bought a fridge with antv and iPad or some chit on it.

Currently earning a lot above average, renting an apt and not having any plans to buy a home soon.
Spending all my muneiz with my girl on activities, going out and gym attire. No regrets .. it might come down and bight me in the arse sometimes tho.

As long as I have a roof over my head and food I'm content. But I really would like a decent space to myself. Wife and I living in shared accomm and it's putting a strain on things now. Really need a house for ourselves but ££. You can go ott on material, but the basics show that you're going in the right direction at least...

Been wearing the same pair of jeans that I bought for 12$ for over a year and my shoes have holes in them but I just don't care lol.
Would rather just save any money so I can retire as early as possible. Probably due to me growing up in a poor household

I have 2 dilemmas in my life. I wrote in your "future goals" thread a couple of days ago.
Part of me wants to work, invest, save, get rental properties, get a GTR.
Part of me wants to enjoy my life more, maybe not work so much.
I have a really good amount of money invested already. If i were to work part time, I could easily get by srs.

IthoughtI cared, but the older I get the more I'm seeing that material things are just a waste of space and time to deal with. Everyone I know (including my parents) with lots of "stuff" spend more time looking after and protecting and worrying about their "stuff" than then spend time enjoying life. You have to worry about people stealing it so you buy security measures, and when you use the stuff it breaks down and you have to get it fixed. Sometimes the stuff required insurance and registration that you have to pay for on a monthly or yearly basis. Its just little things. It doesn't sound like much but when you have a half a dozen items like that laying around your property, it becomes time consuming and stressful to worry about garbage you own simply because it was expensive.
Obsession with "stuff" is a boomer attitude, and people that aren't boomers picked it up from their boomer relatives. I'll admit that I was that person and I still kinda am, but i'm slowly growing out of it. At the end of the year i'm moving out of this podunk state and going back to California. I drive a 4 door sedan, and i'm currently in the mindset of;"Whatever doesn't fit in this car, i'm trowing away."I don't want to rent a storage shed, I don't want to rent a U-Haul and I sure as hell dont want to make 2nd or third trips out here to pick up items I "thought" I needed.
and before anyone says;
"herp, you're just a poor**** justifying your inability to buy things by saying you don't care about material things cope harder!"
The job i'm transferring to has a base pay of $55k/year and caps at around $80k, so I will not be "strapped for cash" by any sense of the imagination.

I do understand the shoe situation. I hate having to "break in" new shoes For that first couple of weeks they hurt to wear for long periods of time.

i've never really cared about stuff, and multiple moves between countries and then multiple moves within the country has reduced my chit to what i can fit in my car. still too much chit

When I was younger I used to want a really nice car like lambo, ferrari etc, wanted a big house and shyt. Now after having a family and going through hardship and all that, financial independence is the most important thing to me. All i wanted is a reliable car, a good-sized house with a big yard in a safe, quiet area, and enough money to travel occasionally in a year and help out my parents if they need it. Anything extra is bonus but I'm not gonna cry if I don't get them.

I dont do a 40 hour week, and save 60% of my income.... I dont buy stuff unless something is broken. Recently bought some new clothes and it was a waste of money in hindsight.
