I like material things but what I like even more is having a nice cash cushion in the bank. To me, it’s almost more satisfying just knowing I can go out and buy schit than actually buying that schit.

You can have stuff and a life full of cool people. I have no idea why the idea of either/or always seems to come up on the misc.

I won't say it because I think we all know what this sounds like and the dead horse has been beaten to dust.

Sure, I would rather give up my 'stuff' than my family and friends but I am glad that I don't have to give either up.

Ahem...

Op decides to make a thread about his brand new Mercedes, in front of his mini-mansion...Everyone is like GJDM until a miscer points out the steering wheel is from a late 90's model Mercedes, and the house is an English home and OP is from the states. Once it's revealed Op is frauding he says it was just some elaborate troll job that he and other miscers came up with in a misc snapchat group. He even takes screenshots of the group, and the conversations to take the heat off, but most thought that was even more pathetic.

Personally i couldnt give a chit about the latest this or the fanciest that
But i feel like everyone else in society looks down upon me for not valuing /wanting/ having them

It affects my self worth and confidence. Ive never been able to afford nice things but ive only felt this way for maybe 7 or 8 years. I feel like consumerist pressure is increasing

Your society makes me sad

I am a less is more kind of person. I never really cared about brands or showing off what I have for others. At the same time, I am not walking around looking like a slob and living in a house that's falling apart.

I have a friend couple that only cares about material possessions. All the do is buy useless chit and then brag about everything they bought to others. I always kind of just answer with something like "cool" and move on. It's kind of my way to get them to try and cool their bragging down because others might take it the wrong way.

don't care about material things one bit. I like having money without people thinking or knowing I have money. All that flashy chit doesn't do anything for you but feed your ego and for the wrong reasons.

I only care about material things in the sense that they serve the purpose I want.
As a status symbol or in regards to "keep up with the joneses" mentality, nah i'm sweet.

Give absolute zero fuks about things like cars and I get annoyed that it's like #2 on the list of things guys I meet talk about. #1 being chicks.
Long as I have a car with the features I want, IDAF what it looks like or what brand it is.
Same with phones. Zero fuks given about new phones when my Note4 does absolutely everything I need a phone to do, and has for years now.

Watches are real high on my list of things I don't give a fuk about either. just Jewelry for men.

Most people I know that are like that are miserable after a while. My mom was like that for a little bit when my sister was in HS and I was in college. When I came back from college I kinda had to tell my mom to chill because she was making everyone miserable doing it.

What I find funny is when people with the same job/virtually the same income as you do make fun of you because they decided to spend more money on a vehicle than you did, and things like that. They literally convince themselves that squandering money on toys is the key to happiness.

I don't "care" about materialistic things.
But I do enjoy...

Having a nice home
having a nice car.
Having a nice watch and jewelry
Wearing nice clothes
Smoking a fine cigar
Drinking single malt Scotch
Eating at nice restaurants.
Taking all inclusive vacations

Take it all away from me and I would still be okay. My family is more important to me than any of that.

If I didn't have a wife and cats, I could easily live in a van. I have always been happier with less material items in my life. You really figure out you dont need random chit and clutter when you go through hard times or move.

I care about (and one of my near future goals is) having a nice home and loving the part of the country that I live in, but that's because I've lived in so many chit holes already.

Having a comfortable car is also important to me (bad back), but my current car is super comfortable and it's a fukking 2003 mercury (lol).

i like musical instruments, laptops, smartphones.. that is about it

i have strong use for both, like production/networking/publishing/editing, etc
i only invest in material things that i can use long-term for a good cause - like my hobby/passion

i'd rather shell out cash on a nice drum set or a better guitar than a fking car, clothes, shoes, etc .. that chit is useless - all you are doing is trying to impress other people instead of fulfilling your own goals.

Yeah, at least they didn't spend it on a vacation or something stupid. Kitchens and bathrooms sell homes. Spending 8k on new countertops could add 12-15k in home value, which would go to paying down the debt they currently owe.
