sup boyos, a couple pics from the new job (tower brah)





one day i'll get a gopro and mount it to my helmet for some cool footage on some higher climbs, this one was only about 220ft

replaced 3g panels with 4g LTE and even some 5g tech, crazy dangerous work and I love it.. lots of paid travel -- going to BC in the near future, then texas then puerto rico in time for the winter

tradie crew, have to put a lot of trust in your harness because a lot of panels are in hard to reach places requiring both hands and often you have to sit below the steel you actually stand on so you're literally just hanging there.

transferring between locations, if you aren't smart and aware at all times you can easily die -- the death rate in this job is insanely high.
having a harness on doesn't mean you're completely safe.

you have to walk along thin steel beams to get to hard to reach panels, there aren't platforms to walk on. if you don't tie your knots properly when hoisting up panels (some weigh over 100 pounds) they can come swinging and throw you off the tower. everyone in your crew needs to be trained on high angle rescue in the event you are thrown off the tower. being suspended from your harness while it's deployed can kill you in a matter of minutes.

you also spend a lot of time hanging, it's not a seasonal job -- i'm up there in the winter when the tower is icey

frequencies are turned off / down to safe levels when workers are on the towers, 4g/3g can fry you too if they're turned on full capacity.

i'm only entry level so with overtime i'm probably pulling about 70+k
should be able to get into 100k/yr when I get good enough at it

I had experience working with fixed wireless systems and I had climbed a few towers before -- but the majority of this work is entirely new to me and it's an entry level position

the company I work for actually designs, fabricates and we build towers as well. I'll be building entire towers when I go to BC.
but we also swap old technology for new, which often requires replacing a lot of components with newer units, running new lines etc
we also do entire builds for cellphone companies which means running fiber and line up the entire tower and then running all the separate cables to the gators and all the panels and various other equipment from the base station / shelter

not entirely sure what the max wind speed we work in is but if the rain gets too heavy / thunder + lightning / blizzard conditions

heights range from 150 - 1000ft, not including the work we do on the CN tower antenna which is closer to 2000ft
after 60ft it's all the same result if you fall and aren't properly tied off

that one in my pics takes about 15 minutes to climb, can be done a lot quicker if you don't rest
1000 takes an hour or so
1500 would probably take closer to 2, that guys doing work on a tv antenna and those are scary af to climb
