Have been looking at AMD for way too long.
Was thinking of buying at the latest dip at $9.7 right before they launched their second generation Zen chips. Man, that I didn't buy ^.^
Also had shares at $4.89 but sold them too early.
Been busy buying other shares, but AMD is so solid.
Their products are hitting all the necessary markets.
On the CPU side they are strong.
Their consumergrade cpus will hit all market segments:
(All these segments was already hit with the first gen and they ate insane amounts of market share since they have unbeatable performance for the money - they undercut Intel real good)
Lower segments with the Ryzen R3 2200G and 2400G
Medium segments with the Ryzen R5 2600 and 2600X
Upper segments with the Ryzen R7 2700 and 2700X
High End Desktop with the Threadrippers - second gen is insane with 32 and 24 core offerings.
Server CPUs - where the billions are:
EPYC server CPUs. This is the market they are gonna hurt Intel in.
Very good growth potential over time.
GPUs are yet to get better for the consumers (i.e. gamers), but they still have the console market (they deliver CPUs/GPUs to both Playstation and Xbox) and their newest 7nm GPU was featured at the latest tech viewing this month.
All in all, the company is solid.
But stocks aren't rational so the stock value will probably vary very much, just like what we saw after Zen 1st gen when it was around 15.5 and dipped to 9.7. If it dips again before Zen third gen then it's a good opportunity to buy some shares.

Anyone that has over 40 technical papers for MIT and has written a book about next gen consumer electronics.. pssh, I'm in man.
When I look at AMD's financials of the past ten years, red seems to be the general theme rather than a temporary phase that's now in the past. And I bet a lot of the big investors are just in it for the short term and will dump it as soon as the wind changes. If I were you, I'd take whatever the current bull run brings (another 20-30% maybe) and jump ship before the next bad news hits. For the long term there's safer picks out there.

The money was in swing trading that wave 4 for the past 18 months. Now? It may go to 20 before a sizable correction. The time to get in on this last trade was at $10. Have tight stop losses if that was your life savings and take your profits.

Yes it will eventually go beyond $20... but that's like 2 years away.

you're putting your money into a company that should perform for you. you bet on teams, fighters or players that should perform for you. If they don't, you lose money. : / And yes..upsets in the market happen just like sporting events.
The stock market is straight up gambling. There is no question about it. I have my play portfolio where I throw my loose change and then I have my long term investments... which is still a gamble. The safest place for your money is in coffee cans.
In respect to AMD: they're a company that has amazing cash flow per share, they have a wonderful and brilliant leader and they're making a lot of noise in the tech industry. Their navi gpu is on par with Nvidia's newest GTX line. Plus, I like them as a company. I'll be completely honest, I took my oil winnings and threw them into AMD and ETFS.

oil was fun in 2016 -- there were companies that normally traded at around $20+ a share that dropped to lows of $3---$7 a share. Prices dropped because of fear and not fundamentals.
