I've been hammered beyond belief but managed to keep my hands to myself, and certainly left men and women alone if they've asked me to stop, though in fairness that's never happened because I'm not a fukface. The whole "he was drunk, we all make mistakes!" thing is laughable, and seriously disappointing to see. Drunken mistakes are things like eating a whole bag of potato chips, texting your ex that you're horny, or drunkenly buying a 10 pack of horse oil sheet masks on eBay (GUITLY.) Believe whatever you want, but a high-profile event isn't going to ask a speaker to leave for flirting.

Somehow I doubt if a woman made an equally terrible mistake while drinking some of y'all would be so generous and forgiving.

Feel bad for him all you want. I feel bad for the women that he groped. Allegedly held down (wtf!) Staff he verbally abused. Oh yeah, and his wife. Sucks for her.

I'm not for a second forgiving his actions or laying all the blame on alcohol, but I guarantee you there were people all over him on FB that have probably done just as bad or worse themselves. As I said, he absolutely ****ed up, but social media acting as judge, jury and executioner is wrong.

Ftr if I had a dollar for every time a woman did something similar to me at an event I'd be laughing. I'm not complaining about that though, I don't actually see it as an issue because men and womenaredifferent and a man responds to being "accosted" by a woman in such a way very differently than a woman being accosted by man. Just saying that I think you're wrong in suggesting that a woman in a similar position would be more harshly dealt with. It happens all the time and is almost seen as part of normal social interaction from my experience.

Can honestly say I have been hammered and it never turned me in to a dick. Sloppy/lack of coordination, yes. Throwing up? Yes. Never aggressive/dickhead though. If it did, I assume I would never do it again.

Yikes, that's terrible to hear, srs. No one should be subjected to advanced after they've clearly told a person no. It doesn't matter to me if it was a woman or a man behaving that way, it is not okay, and I'm sorry that happened to you.

But no, I don't believe for a second that men are being judged equally here, and by here I mean on the misc, to be clear. Take for example that stupid rating EOD thread from a while back, where the misc suddenly found their moral compass and made it clear how deeply wrong and immoral it was to uh, rate people. I have a reputation for telling men to not suck when it comes to their interactions with women. Women have come to trust me because of my numerous writings on this subject.

It’s easier to write about such things behind the safety of a keyboard than it is to act upon them. And so, I didn’t do all I could to help women when they needed me.

I have Carolina Belmares's permission to tell this.

It was last May, in Kansas City, at the Fitness Summit. It’s an event I have attended four times now, and is often a scene of some drunken ****ery. But usually a good time. And yet, 2018 ended up being a terrible time for Carolina, and I was the first one she came to when she experienced being sexually harassed by someone well known in the fitness industry.

You may have heard something of this story already. It’s about Alan Aragon and the reports of him sexually harassing women. This is blowing up on ******** right now, but there is history dating back several months, and I failed to act as assertively as I could.

At the Friday night party, last May, Carolina came to me in a state of distress, saying she’d been sexually harassed by Alan. I have known Alan for many years, and this was the fourth time meeting him in person. His nutrition knowledge is highly respected, and I’ve interviewed him for articles more times than I can recall. I considered him a friend.

She relayed what happened. Without making this overlong, I’ll report that she told me Alan said he wanted to “smack that ass.” When she rebuffed him he did not back down, and reiterated that he wanted to smack that ass. There was much more, and it was disgusting, but Carolina doesn’t want me to repeat it.

I was shocked, and didn’t know what to say at first. I may write about this stuff, but I didn’t have this kind of face-to-face, as-it-happens experience with such things. I took a few seconds, realized how upset she was, and realized that I believed her. I had to believe her. It was important to believe her. I told her I believed her and that what Alan had done was terrible, and that I supported her.

We had a lengthy conversation that night, and talked more the next day. The next day, when she explained that she’d talked to some other people and told me there seemed to be a history of some bad behavior, I suggested she speak to the conference organizers. She did.

I continued to message with Carolina for a couple of days after the conference, being supportive, repeating that I believed her. She told me things about how she felt that made it clear it had been a very upsetting experience for her. I put her in touch with a friend who is a survivor to chat with further.

Because I was the first person she told, and the one who suggested she go to the conference organizers, I was involved. This was an issue where I was in the middle of it. Like it or not, I had responsibilities.

And I came to shirk them. It was later presented as a “he said / she said.” Alan phoned me and had an explanation. He said it was all a misunderstanding and he felt like Carolina was trying to ruin his reputation. He wasn’t talking about her literal ass, he explained, but a metaphorical one. He told me he said to her, “I only have 55 minutes to smack that ass,” in reference to how much time he had to nail his presentation the next day.

This sounds like a, “Yeah, right.” But a couple of years previously I had proposed to Alan interviewing him for an article exposing low carb bull****. He had had a few drinks and said, “James, I would love to go dick to dick with you on that.” So, there was a history of crazy metaphors. Saying “smack that ass” about a presentation seemed believable.

I wanted to believe him, wanted to believe it was a misunderstanding.

I still gave Alan hell. I told him he needed to not drink at conferences and watch his mouth, not be so familiar. Behave better. I WARNED him that this was bad and if he wanted to recover his reputation he needed to do a lot better.

And that was all I did. It obviously was not enough.

I should have done more. I shouldn’t have been so quick to accept an explanation that is almost certainly bull****, as recent events have shown.

I didn’t have any additional conversations with Carolina after my conversations with Alan. I bought his story and gave her no additional support. I didn’t publicly take his side, but privately, I came to doubt, because it seemed plausible it was a misunderstanding. I wanted to believe he wouldn’t act this way.

I should have called bull**** on his excuse. I should have been more vehement with him and told him that his behavior was totally unacceptable and that he needed to get help, not just for his drinking, but counseling on how he treats women. I should have been a better ally to prevent future victims.

A few days ago, my friend Yvette was speaking at a conference in Chicago. I knew Alan would be there and I didn’t think to warn her. That was my second failure.

Because at that conference, I have heard, Alan sexually harassed and repeatedly put his hands on various parts of her body. There were witnesses. There was no denying it this time. And it wasn’t just her. I wasn’t there, but there are reports that he was very inappropriate and handsy with other women at the conference.

Please don’t say I did all I could. I definitely didn’t. I could have done more.

And this is why women don’t speak out. They’re not believed. Men want to believe their friends and not believe women. Because I wasn’t more involved, because I wasn’t more on the side of the victim, Alan was free to do it again.

And for this, for letting down Carolina and Yvette, for letting down all women, I am very sorry.

Guy is books smart yet it seems like he is socially retarded and/or on that pervert time. Probably thought he was a rockstar that could literally "grab them by the pussy", but he isnt, people admired him for his work and thats it. And pretty sure rockstars will get accusations too if they act when there isnt body language that suggests fans are attracted to them or verbal cues that invite them to act, you cant and shouldnt act when there is no attraction.
