I didn't state that well.

I along with everyone I know has been "sexually assaulted" to this extent before. Alan should absolutely be punished.

That being said I don't think some a hole groping someone should result in them losing their career and house and everything related.

Unless he is completely debt free he is fuked. I was planning on attending a conference next year where he was keynote. He is replaced now. Those conferences pay several grand for these experts to speak.

You wanna penalize him for the several grand he was going to make for that conference I am all good with that. You turn one of the top nutrition experts into a pizza delivery boy and I have a problem.

Skepticism should always be the default position, that's what innocent until proven guilty means. An unfortunate consequence of this is that real victims sometimes suffer, without justice. No system is perfect, but a system where claims are taken on face value is worse.

I'd consider myself a skeptic, and like to think about situations like this as a sliding scale of probability. Considering Alan himself apologized for his behavior, and there are multiple witnesses and testimonies from the same event, it seems pretty clear cut some inappropriate conduct went down.

Obviously there's plenty of details I don't know - like did all these witnesses see the behavior themselves, or just heard about it via word of mouth at the conference? Is the description that some of the women provided completely accurate or exaggerated? No doubt there will be some women jumping onto the bandwagon too.

This... I don't believe chit with out a good amount of evidence.

Treating someone as guilty is how peoples lives are ruined.

That being said pretty damn clear Alan went beyond "harassment" which I could ignore as "metooing" to breaching the physical barrier which is NO NO.

Fine him a few thousand and get on with life.

Would you like to know first-hand? I was there. It happened at a bar/restaurant where they turn the restaurant into a dance floor after 11pm. He had been drinking, like all of us, but the alcohol isn't to blame of course. Alcohol just amplifies people's tendencies. Anyway, there are booths that kind of circle the dance floor. What I can tell you is that he kind of "cornered" one woman into the booth and then grabbed her inappropriately after making sexual suggestions to her. Aside from that, another woman was approached by him and also groped inappropriately after he suggested that they engage in "sexual activities." I'm using quotations around that because I'm paraphrasing, but he basically kept implying that they should go back to the hotel.

The next morning is when he was asked to leave the conference. He was not present the actual day of the conference, the same day he was to be the key note speaker.

So yes, this happened, and it didn't just happen to one woman.

This is the funny thing about this thread. Miscers are defending him saying they are just "allegations", but he's basically apologizing for everything due to his alcoholism. So he's not denying it's been done...just that some substance made it happen.

tbh I didn't see his apology as half assed. It was rather quick and sincere. By the time most of us even heard of this drama he had apologized already. Though I know there's a screenshot of him calling Yvette's account a "romance novel with plot holes" and not sure when that was posted.

Wasn't there but if it's a case of getting hammered and being too touchy and stopping when he realized he went too far, I don't think it warrants a witch hunt response. I see that happen often in public when guys pursue women. Any such account out of context can be made to look even worse.

I think Brad Schoenfeld's response summed it up well. He warned him it would destroy his career and it's caused heavy damage, at least. Now he needs to address the issue before it destroys his life.

To a point.

Several years ago I was involved in a work place "sexual harassment" investigation. Which in this case was defined as "any statement that makes someone uncomfortable that is sexual in nature"

By that definition I absolutely did. That didn't mean I said exactly what she was claiming I said.

This shook me pretty hard core. This was a VA office where we were 10 recently discharged vets doing there thing. One 19 year old dependa changed everything.

From that I learned to STFU. This is not Alan's first brush with this. He should have learned from those brushes.

Hopefully no one ITT is misconstruing my thoughts with that. I pointed out that he already admitted to stepping over the line and needs to seek help. I just feel a measured approach is best so I'm just not ready to brand him a sexual predator. To me that implies someone whose existence revolves around that crime. That's the same group of people who kidnap and pimp out underage teenagers to be prostitutes (happens to be an issue where I live). So THAT level of anger doesn't seem justified. But considering the pattern of behavior, it makes sense some are disassociating from him and criticizing him, and he absolutely needs to seek some professional help.

It's not about whether he was being a creep. Of course he was being a drunken creep. That doesn't make someone a sexual predator. That term is reserved for some pretty fuked up individuals who legit "prey" on women. He's just getting sloppy drunk and can't shut his mouth around women.
