Googled the writer.

Turns out she did the first season of Daredevil and The Defenders.

So it will probably be decent.

Lmao at Idris playing Geralt.

Iirc there wasn’t even a single black person in the entire game... makes sense considering the entire game and books are based in mideval European style era...

Just to emphasize here that the games were awesome, and that the games were based on aseries of books. The books are pretty well written too.

So no, this isn't just an 'adaptation of a video game', it's the adaptation of a franchise, in a similar way that Game of Thrones was done. And since Netflix has finally overtaken HBO in terms of Emmy nominations, I'm fairly confident that they'll use this fantasy series to fill a gaping hole left when Game of Thrones is done.

And it'll be pretty popular in its own right - there are plenty of Witcher fans around the world.

I know how leftists get when white people play Asian actors (Last Samurai anyone?). I know how they get when straight women are cast to play trans people (Scar-Jo). I know the that the only reason they cast non-whites to play white characters is to virtue signal.

I think Idris is an excellent actor but I don't see why we need to play this needless insertion of "diversity" (always seems to mean "not white") into media. Geralt is white. So was Roland Deschain. Just let Cavill play it.

I'm so tired of this last samurai crap

Samurai is plural and it's referring to the last samurai right before they change the laws for all of them being allowed to carry swords anymore in public.

Tom Cruise is not a samurai or supposed to be one he played an American war general that happened to be there seeing it and telling the story from his point of view

Last samurai is ****ing plural

heard this a million times...
you do know tom cruise wasnt 'the last samurai' right?
the movie was about katsumoto and his people being the last samurai and tom cruise's character documenting it.

but i wonder if anyone would say anything if black panther was played by a white guy.
would they have an issue?
we're all from africa and his suit is black, doesnt meanheneeds to be, right?

The Last Samurai was the title of the movie, and leftists bitched about Cruise being cast in the film.

My first thought of who would have been perfect for the role was Anson Mount from Hell on Wheels. I'm sure Cavill will do fine tho as long as netflix doesn't fuk up the writing.

Edit: Wizarded^^
I call it "Celebration". It's sexual, and violent...

Didn't know that. Fantasy genre isn't really my cup of tea so I'll probably pass but hopefully they do a good job with it.

Actually the game is barely based on the books at all. The original author (Andrzej Sapkowski) hated the direction they took with the games so much that he basically disavowed them. Ironically the games (especially W3) were vastly more popular than the books ever were.

The Last Samurai was cast correctly. Tom Cruise played an American solider who was in Japan due to the Japanese moving towards modernity and opening up their country to the West. That is 100% racial accurate portrayal. Now if it was 500 AD Japan then there would have been a problem.

I agree it was cast correctly. It was the left that bitched about a white man being in it. That said, Roland Deschain and Geralt of Rivia are both white, and should be played by white actors simply for accuracy.

Geralt will either be black or he'll be white but gay and beg women to peg him.

Could turn out decent, Gerald should have some muscle and athleticism so most of the old guys mentioned in this thread don't fit the bill. Hopefully he doesn't look like Superman in a cheap wig.

Writers look like redditors.. might be an advantage in this case lol

GoT writers are two holywood SJW Jews and IS an SJW fest after the first few seasons.

This woman seems like an SJW who moved to LA from Ohio

It's hard to say right now I checked out her Instagram and it wasn't horrible.

It depends with the focus on and how much masculinity they inject into it which doesn't seem like it comes natural to any of them

On the other hand they could be bookworms and really understanding how to sell a character to what an audience wants.

It seems like the love interest in the overall handsomeness and coolness of him will be kept. I don't know about the masculinity aspect though. Women don't really have a sense for a man being badass.

The thing is the gaming industry is one of the last bastions that the SJW's want to target and "reform" with their brand of brainwashing.

'Barely based on the books at all' is a surprising exaggeration. The games are clearly based on the books. What you called 'hated the direction they took' is also an exaggeration - the author merely (but clearly) stated that (tl;dr) that he has never played video games, and called the games a 'free adaptation' of elements of his books. Of course he'll say that his rich universe can't really be captured by a video game, but honestly his comments here are a bit bizarre. The author is pretty arrogant - that much I'll say, considering the video game's immense popularity vs his relative obscurity.

It's also not really ironic that digital media is more popular than the books - this is the case for Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire) too. The salient difference is that the author of The Witcher wrote the series in Polish and it was later translated into English and other languages.

Either way, the Game of Thrones TV series significantly changed the direction of the books - in some ways for the better, and in some ways much, much worse. Here's hoping that the writers of the Witcher series figure out a great balance, taking the elements of the books that make it such a fantastic world to discover and experience, and making enjoyable, entertaining TV.

Clearly as in the main protagonist is a Witcher named Geralt of Rivia? Yeah. Beyond that, from what I read the story line in general bears minimal resemblance to the novels.

From what I had read in the past, he apparently had a lot of negative things to say about the games themselves, and he apparently felt like the games were costing him book sales. Maybe "hate" is a strong word for his position on it, but I'd say he has minimal love for the games at best.

Given Netflix's penchant for Social Justice asshattery, I won't hold my breath, but yes I hope it does well.
