So what should have been a wonderful moment for Osaka is tainted by Serena's over the top hissy fit. Pre-game they were talking about how Serena was Osaka's idol and how it's her dream to be playing against her, and Serena behaves like that. Absolutely embarrassing, especially the "I'm a woman!" outbursts.

Yep many top athletes are sore losers, few show it like Serena at times but she's always been a very emotional player, berating herself at times incredibly harshly for poor play. Most players would fall apart having on court tantrums but most of the time she is able to pull herself back together again. But she was going to lose no matter what the umpire did, I think Osaka beat her earlier this year too, she's one of the few players who has the power to compete with Williams.

As for the umpire's call, it's a highly debated area in tennis. Coaching in Grandslams is forbidden but it's allowed in every other event, this inconsistent approach will result in incidents like this. Fact is coaching happens in GS all the time there really needs to be a more consistent application of the rules. If they are not going to allow any coaching then just remove the coaches from the arena entirely if the slightest gesture could be construed as coaching it's silly having them sit in the box where they can make gestures all the time everytime the umpire's attention is elsewhere.
