The Ultimate divorce loss.

I may have mentioned this but I can't find it and felt it deserved it's own thread.

my dad got married to his second wife about 28 years ago. long story short she wanted a divorce about a year and a half ago. it was just finalized in August this year.

they had a house, no savings because she spent it all on vacations that she took literally once a month for 3-4 days or mare at a time. he also had a business that I was a key part in since the beginning(2008). I gave up my nights, weekends and 90% of my social life for 10 years while working a 50+ hour a week job.

so he offers her the house and monthly payments that would more than cover the rent and general bills of the house for the rest of his life. his only request, to keep the business. but what did the feminist judge decide when she was presented with this? her exact words, "I don't care about the details. I just want to know what the total assets are so I can split them.". as a result he was forced to sell the house and split that. then also sell the business which had only really became profitable in the last 3-ish years. and as you could imagine once word gets out that the business MUST be sold due to court order you're not going to get top dollar. so basically they had to sell everything and split the cash.

You might be thinking, "well that's not so bad. splitting everything after almost 30 years isn't the worse thing. what is this yahoo talking about?".

so not only is this 63 year old man forced to sell his business but he has to pay ALIMONY for the rest of his life. of course he has no job now and the market for 60+ year old former business owners isn't exactly in high demand. so essentially unless he can earn an income to pay his expenses and alimony she'll be effectively getting everything minus what he spends before he dies.

that's right folks. she stripped him of his way to earn a living and she's getting paid for it. No income plus paying alimony. he gets screwed out of his life's work/savings and I have the last 10 years and my future plans burnt to the ground with nothing to show for it. all because of the feelings of a woman.

marriage not even once. risk everything to gain nothing or lose everything.

He should have sold the business to you. Is there a reason you didn't buy it?

Sounds like there is much more to the story than what you have provided, but I will play along with your narrative and say "that sucks bro, down with women"

If I read it correctly, they sold the whole business and split the cash.

Mumra could have been the "buyer" and they still performed the cash split.

im willing to bet there were a ton of red flags while your dad was dating this sloot. im willing to believe he overlooked them because he did not want to go grow old and alone.

a ton of people get married who shouldn't get married. i think a lot of couples think marriage will fix whatever problem they have.

regardless godspeed. hope your pops makes it out

Every story of a happy marriage like the "Notebook" has about 20 stories of a male getting reamed by the government from a whimsical divorce.I am sure feminists will protest the blatant unjustified preferential treatment with family law.

it really doesn't matter in Ga. you have no rights in family court it's all up to the judge. your best chance is to get a lawyer that donates HEAVILY to the re-elections of judges and get that judge. feminists don't care. F men is all that's on their minds.

very true.

once the divorce was filled it would have likely brought me into the middle of a legal nightmare. I probably could have bought it before but to fight the legal battle as well... it just wasn't in the cards.

plus as bad as it is to admit she was more of a mom to me than my actual mother for most of my life. this really put me in the middle big time. of course my loyalty laid with my dad no matter what. best I could do was stay as far away as possible.

we're looking at some investments and I'm thinking of quitting my job to work on them full time. it's be super tight though. I was planning on going back to school to pursue a different career. I was also planning on selling my rental house but I might have to keep it so he has somewhere to live.

lots to figure out right now.

not really much more to it. sure my dad's not perfect and I sure he was a jerk at times. but you have 2 people living with you doing nothing at all and asking for more all the time and tell me how you'll feel.

Splitting the assets makes sense even if it wasn't the most logical thing to do given the situation but that isn't the judge's fault.

Not sure about the alimony part if they were equal partners in a business. If she has no formal designation though that would deem her valuable to another business and he does, that could do it.

she had not part in the business besides spending the money it earned.

you see the only difference between his proposal and what actually happened is a little less cash for her and he got to keep his job. now she has more cash and he has no job/income.

Force man to sell business.
Force man to provide alimony with no business.

That is some tragic logic right there.

Fair point.

Not aware of Georgia law, but this seems really extreme. Here the couple is allowed to hash out an agreement. There are some strict requirements (child support calculation), some recommendations/guidelines, but as long as there isn't anything crazy and both parties agree the judge basically just signs off on it.

To get a judge involved would mean that the two parties of the divorce could not come to an agreement on their own and went to trial. That is when a judge would rule.

Don't know the details at all, but would hardly say that someone was likely to stick around for 28 years just as a gold digger.

Sorry OP. Hope things work out for your dad.

That's brutal.

He needs an income to provide alimony. He needs a business to have income.

In all seriousness, Hulk Hogan got cucked pretty hard in court when his gold digging ex-wife left him. She ended up with a net worth worth of $20 million while the Hulkster was left barely a millionaire until he won in court against that website that proceeded to cuck his wrestling career when they released that sex tape of him.

So why not just keep leeching instead of forcing the sale of the source of income?

There is guaranteed more to this story than the moral the OP is selling. What were the official listed grounds for divorce (which has to be proven btw)..."i am bringing in my disabled relative and am going to continue mooching...so I need a divorce" LOL yeah right

A hammer breaks glass but also forges steel - old russian proverb

Your dad protected you, fed you, clothed you after bringing you into this world. He held you up high in his arms, taught you to ride a bike, to swim, to brush your teeth, to shave. He taught you how to address other people. To follow the golden rule - do unto others as you would have them do to you. Now its your turn to be the hero. He needs you. I dont mean financially. A hero can be anyone..

God said vengeance is mine. Dont waste your life hating this woman. My ex wife lied to the police. I was looking at 15 years in prison. It took 10k for a lawyer, telling the truth to pass a lie detector and a lot of luck and blessing for me to even have a life and be here typing this. And I dont hate her man. Theres a lot of sick people in this world. Jesus saw the mob calling for his execution. He said "forgive them father for they know not what they do". Dont become wrath when what is needed is love.

There is guaranteed more to this story than the moral the OP is selling. What were the official listed grounds for divorce (which has to be proven btw)..."i am bringing in my disabled relative and am going to continue mooching...so I need a divorce" LOL yeah right
No offense brah, but you're sadly mistaken if you think a woman typically has to do much to prove the legitimacy of their demands for divorce related payments from their ex husbands via court mandate. All they really have to do is say some generalized bullcrap like "irreparable differences" and that'll generally get the job done.
