Yeah we (I) am going to finish up moving high value crap upstairs this evening while the wife looks after the kids.

Worst part is I still have to disassemble a damn trampoline, not taking any chances with the insurance company on that one.

yes there is always a chance at movement, look at irma last year. the one thing going for this storm is that there is alot of model agreeance.
specifically speaking to the below map, this cone has a 66% accuracy rate, so there is a chance that it hits outside of the cone. where are you located

Yes. Irma was originally supposed to hit the southern most part of florida

But it stuck to cuba or something longer than it was supposed to which gave it a more northwest push instead of straight on north. It ended up following the coastline and headed directly at my city. It was supposed to be a cat 2 or 3 when it got to us, because it would be broken up by land (originally). But it stayed in the warm gulf waters longer, restrengthened, and was going to hit us as a cat 4.

Crazy thing is when it landed, a pocket formed and it essentially blew over our city. There was damage but not that bad. Surrounding cities got the worst of it

Here in SC they just evacuated the coast and reversed the interstates. Seems to be shifting north of SC though.

Fairly certain youd be unhappy without power for a while

When thinking about it it was actually worse than i thought. We had gone to jacksonville from around the tampa area. Jacksonville just got outer bands

But i actually think the place we stayed was without power for a week. Which is pretty brutal. I remember curfew was placed as well for the first few days

We ended up going back to where we were which was the original location of the hurricane landfall and it was actually less damage there. Somehow some pocket formed

A tree in our backyard was uprooted and destroyed our pool cage. This isnt a tiny tree either. But other than tree limbs our damage was minor, and we had power quicker than the place we travelled to

But im fairly certain that some were without power for a month

Do you see this hitting around Wilmington? I think the dangers seems to be it stalling out once inland over central NC and dumping a chit ton of rain everywhere.

I remember in Maryland back in like 2013 or 2014 they got hit with a Cat 4 or 3 or some chit. I was terrified being from Texas we only had to deal with Tornadoes not hurricanes. Long story short, it just rained. I laughed my ass off. Everything shut down and boarded up and just rain happened.

Yea, i also remember.. Being from florida. Lots of hurricanes

I think it was sandy? There was a record year in the 2000's, i think there were like 7 named storms? Whatever year had a crazy number in secession. I was playing baseball and we were travelling. But i remember the eye passed over us directly and it was like nothing.

Strong gusts of wind made the trees blow but imo, some of the tropical storms were worse. Then when we travelled for baseball seeing all the trees and everything destroyed was crazy. Our place wasnt that affected

But irma was a bit different and there was more physical damage than i experienced. Was heart wrenching learning the storm had turned and was supposed to make landfall as a category 4 right where we were

Definitely smart to just be ahead. Get gas and supplies in advance or head out early. Or make plans early

While I agree the hype is usually worse than the actual event, I don't believe Maryland has ever, in history, been hit by a hurricane that was rated at category 3 or 4 at the time it crossed into the state.

If you're thinking Sandy, it all depends on where you are in relation to the winds, rains, and storm surge. Here in Maryland it wasn't too bad at all as we were on the southern end of the eye with the winds coming from the north and then west, so storm surge wasn't a major concern. But tell that to the Rockaways in NY when she hit bringing easterly winds being north of the eye, at high tide, with fires burning for days because the entire area was inaccessible.
