She is mid 60's and has never worked. Sh*tty wife material for sure. And it is his 2nd marriage so he married her learning from previous mistakes supposedly. Why the first divorce? You're the naive one here bro

Ill go out on a limb and guess youre arguing that it takes two to tango and this divorce is half his fault. Ok so why is she initiating the divorce and hes losing every possession he ever gave a chit about? How is that fair if its only 50% his fault? We should probably stop arguing because youre carrying a chip on your shoulder. Probably were raised with a single mother. Maybe she took a guy to the cleaners and told you she was the good guy in the story. Maybe he was a cheating alcoholic that deserved it. What I will say is your responses make zero sense in light of the information op offered. But its the misc so whatever. If im right and you were raised by a single mother im not trying to insult your mom. All im saying is there is a time to offer some sympathy to people that are suffering like op and his dad.

And if he has no income (according to Op) he'll be paying no alimony.

These divorce courts are fuking insane.
He has to pay her lifetime alimony, at a rate based on his income generated from his business, which he was forced to sell.
If they force him to sell his business, he is now unemployed just as she is. He also was forced to give her half his chit, so they both have the same net worth and same employment status. The court is saying he has to find a new job to support BOTH of them. She is used to not working so she is entitled to it for the rest of her life.
What in the fuk.

Alimony for wife? Am i missing something, in Lithuania you only pay alimony if after the separation your kid under 18 (or 24 if student) is living with other spouse. And only for the purpose of aiding your child. Paying alimony to another grown adult, unless he is disabled, makes no sense.

Not aware of Georgia law, but this seems really extreme. Here the couple is allowed to hash out an agreement. There are some strict requirements (child support calculation), some recommendations/guidelines, but as long as there isn't anything crazy and both parties agree the judge basically just signs off on it.

Don't know the details at all, but would hardly say that someone was likely to stick around for 28 years just as a gold digger.
Sorry OP. Hope things work out for your dad.
he tried that but she passed. hence offering her the house 100%, him keeping the business and paying her monthly enough to cover the mortgage and bills. she wouldn't take it.
That's brutal.
He needs an income to provide alimony. He needs a business to have income.
yep, but if you think she or the judge gave a poop you'd be wrong.
This. In4 answers. Why not?
I covered this already.
Or there is a whole other side to this story Op doesn't know about.
And LOL @ pouring your blood, sweat and tears into your Dad's business and your Dad essentially ****ting on you by not naming you as partner or co-owner
I covered this as well. while they were having "problems" for a while the divorce basically came out of no where. besides like I said before attempting to sell assets once the divorce had been filed would have been a legal nightmare. I'm almost certain that would have been illegal and I know I would have been sucked into the middle of this mess. something I did not want.
So why not just keep leeching instead of forcing the sale of the source of income?
There is guaranteed more to this story than the moral the OP is selling. What were the official listed grounds for divorce(which has to be proven btw)..."i am bringing in my disabled relative and am going to continue mooching...so I need a divorce" LOL yeah right
the below poster nailed it.
No offense brah, but you're sadly mistaken if you think a woman typically has to do much to prove the legitimacy of their demands for divorce related payments from their ex husbands via court mandate. All they really have to do is say some generalized bullcrap like"irreparable differences"and that'll generally get the job done.
of course Ga is a "No Fault divorce" state. so that was an option anyways.

God said vengeance is mine. Dont waste your life hating this woman. My ex wife lied to the police. I was looking at 15 years in prison. It took 10k for a lawyer, telling the truth to pass a lie detector and a lot of luck and blessing for me to even have a life and be here typing this. And I dont hate her man. Theres a lot of sick people in this world. Jesus saw the mob calling for his execution. He said "forgive them father for they know not what they do". Dont become wrath when what is needed is love.
I wouldn't say I'm "hating" but I am bitter AF and just venting a little.
women defending their primary source of income and security.
basically.
Yeah, I'm confused how he's got court ordered alimony with no income.
you're not confused. that's basically it.
FYI, the disability of the relative is being blind. they have only been blind for a few years. it happened as a result of not taking care of their diabetes. so it was self inflicted.

If this is accurate and true, which I highly doubt, then I would legit kill my ex wife (depending on the manner of the breakup, but if she wants that much then it cant’ve been good…) and then find the judge and execute him/her too. Alimony for what?
Part of me also thinks that you fail as a man when you shack up with a woman like this. It should be obvious.

they had both been married before in the 80s and nothing like this went down then so you can understand why this was a surprise.

serious question though. why get married? per your sig you're an atheist so there's no religious reason to do it and if you both have nothing there was no "old school" reason like uniting families or assets. so why bother?

It’s pretty tragic, but my dads friend got hosed even worse. Not only did he have to part with his business, home, and cars. He had to pay alimony to his Ex-wife while she moved in the boy toy she was cheating on him with. He also had to pay (and still does for another year for the youngest) child support for three children. He also put two children through school. The bleeding slowed a few years later when she married the boy toy and he was free of alimony. He works for Ford now, lives in a tiny condo and has a girlfriend that he keeps a Kevin Garnett wingspan length away. He was one of those jolly kind of guys, the kind that was a bit annoyingly happy, but in his mind he had a reason to be. Successful business, wife and family, but she killed all that. Dude is the personification of the chitty house on the block. Has some charm, might have good bones, but no one wants to come near it. She broke him, and the system let her.

Something doesnt seem right with this story..
-I've never heard of never ending alimony. Alimony is set for a specific amount of time...
-A judge may force you to split assets and if that requires you to sell a business then so be it. You can immediately re-address the court and get alimony lowered to almost nothing if you show you have no income...
-If there is no child support there is no problem....All your dad has to do is restart the business under a new name. He has the skills, contacts and customers. Yes it will take a while to rebuild but it can be done...
Yes your pops got majorly screwed but he can recover...

Not saying what happened was right or wrong but business owners are notorious for understating their value and assets during divorce proceedings. They can also defer contracts and receivables and make large business payments in an effort to understate their income and true value for the current year.
