Moved out at 16. Rough last couple years of high school couch surfing for the most part.

It's crazy seeing all the posts of dudes who are 25+ years old still living at home. No wonder so many posters come off as complete weaklings in here. (Srs) You've never once had to struggle for anything. You're 25 ****ing years old. Jesus....

Moved out at 19. Had my bedroom furniture from home, an old 13" rabbit ear TV and bought a desk at a garage sale and a couch at a used furniture store.

Was working full time for $6 an hour when minimum wage was $4.25. Broke af, no extras, and no health insurance. Rent was $360 for my 1 bedroom in an older complex/not great location.

Personally in the "college, work and pay rent, or move out" camp. Kids have to make it on their own eventually - better to do it when their parents can still act as bumpers or training wheels if things go south.

No hate for people moving out later, but lol at thinking it is wrong to expect a grown up to contribute to the household.

I do think that we old people should keep in mind that conditions have gotten tougher in some ways.

My annual gross @ $6 an hour was $12,480 and a year of rent @ $360 was $4,320.

The exact same old apartment now rents for $895 a month/$10,740 a year or a 148% increase. Meanwhile the minimum wage only increased about 70% ($4.25 > $7.25).ETA: Tough to do, but not a bad idea since it would hopefully keep them from getting comfortable and settling in.

Planning to get out before I'm 23 or shortly after, can't wait.

Yeah because a college education means you will be financially ready to hit the ground running right? Let's look at the statistics of people out of college who cannot find jobs, coupled with student loans. Yeah, looks real awesome! For my situation, I saved every penny I had from 16-19, found super cheap living arrangements, my parents had most of my schooling covered, and I worked 2 part time jobs. yeah lol at my parents for raising someone with drive and motivation. Oh yeah, I was also in a band that toured the west coast and my parents would pay for me to fly to/from shows (to make sure I didn't miss classes or work). I guess they coddled me too LOLlol he's gonna go NC before he answers this question, or at least ask mommy for permission.

It wasn't hard, but it was kind of a slap in the face from reality.

I moved out at 26 I think mainly because I wanted to have a dating life and start bringing girls over to my place and lose my virginity.
Long story short, I couldnt afford it and I have to move back in with family and I barely got laid at all because I am too ugly. Fml. Now instead of chasing girls, I will chase money for some fake happiness

I left home but it was difficult because my salary is not that high yet, and costs are high.
The ****ed up thing in most large European cities is that unless you have a solid job, its difficult to move out without spending 3/4 of your salary on rent. And if you find yourself unqualified and trying to make a living its near impossible.

Unless you live in rural Europe, its very difficult to move out unless you have good situation.
Currently I am barely making a decent living and would have to move back to my parents if I lost my job.

But basically its really out of necessity. I dont think any European likes to live with his parents unless you are an Italian or something and its really in the culture. Most Western European culture is individualistic and about leaving the parents ASAP. Here in France the old mentality was kicking out the children at 18 but thats changed due to economic conditions.
