Parents shuffling the kids around to afterschool functions/sports practices is not spoiling children it’s making well-rounded adults who have the full support of their parents. Even if they are a stay at home parent or a working parent in a time crunch.

You would never ever get any issues. People leave their babies outside in their buggy when living in apartment blocks and the baby would be at main entrance. Maybe it's just unique to some countries but I think it teaches kids independence plus gives parents peace of mind that they don't have to constantly babysit their kids.

it's not unique to some countries. It's extremely rare but kids do get nabbed, and i cannot imagine what those monsters do to kids when they do get them. It's unimaginable.

Perhaps I'm over cautious but I'd kill myself if my kid got grabbed because of my complacency.

It's like saying driving without a seatbelt is fine because i never got in an accident. It's naive to be honest, and probably against the law.

Adam Walsh was a couple months short of his 7th birthday when he was taken from that mall

Location: UK. I'm in the US and it'd be pretty rare to see an 8 year old walking 20 minutes anywhere. Would also depend on where you live. There may only be highways or back roads with no sidewalks. Also it's very obvious that you don't even have kids. It's hilarious how people who aren't married and don't have kids act like they're the authority on the right way to be married/be a parent.

Suppose life sucks when living in such places where crime rate is high. Have discussed it with my partner too who is Irish and in Ireland kids get brainwashed a lot as the country is still quite into its history when it comes to religion. To be able to get a good school for a kid you have no choice but to baptize the poor child which I find ridiculous. My home country is alright as I grew up there but I am unsure if I would like to move back,

No I was in Estonia. 100km away from Russian border but grew up in a small town. All parents let their kids to be more independent.

Well that's obviously very different than the US. You can't judge what parents in a totally different country do regarding their young kids. It's not always about letting your kid be independent. It's about making sure your kid is safe. Not everyone here is in a small town with easily walkable and safe roads.

Well in that case I feel sorry for people who live in such places. It must suck to constantly worry and kids will have to be always protected, looked after etc... Once they become adults it'll take them longer to adjust to the freedom. I am no parent though so call me an idiot for all I care

Well first of all, I'm not the one who called you an idiot, so take that up with someone else. Second, I think for most of us, it's just way of life and what you get used to. If you're used to being in an area where it's safe for young children to walk miles by themselves, moving somewhere like the US would suck.

If my spouse was spending 3+ hours in the bathroom a day, I'd be very concerned about their dairy intake and/or porn habits.

itt, bunch of miscers who pretend they've never spent 20 or more minutes in the bathroom chiitting, showering, and shaving.

i think the best combination is a stay at home mom with a part time.

- she has chit to do so shes not stuck in the house all day
- she has her own income
- can work toward her own goals
- still plenty of time for the youngins
- chances are if shes working part time her scheduling / employer can be flexible with her shifts.

plus the idea of your kid coming home to a hot plate and company (the mom being home) is better than your kid coming home from school to a quiet house having to heat up leftovers from the night before.

Thx RR. I've been married almost a year and a half and I've never seen my guy take less than a 30 min shower. And he takes at least 2 a day. Just to put things in perspective.

I stayed home for several years when my son was a baby/toddler and worked part time for many years after until going back to work full time when he hit middle school. I even worked PT in his school for a couple years which was ideal having the same days off schedule. People just don’t realize how much of a hassle working full time with babies/young children is. I see my coworkers who do it and struggle with the sick days/daycare and school closings. We are fortunate to work for a pretty flexible company but not everyone has that at their job.
