Here I am at 49 still doing it. Why? Because I love it. I really truly love it. I want to inspire other people to start lifting and love it as much as I do. If you're in their face telling them how they're doing it all wrong because they're not doing exactly what you (general you) do, then you're not going to be inspiring people to want to lift. You're going to make them think we're all a bunch of a-holes. There is so much great knowledge and motivation to be had here, but sometimes that knowledge is given in the entirely wrong way and that's a real shame.
It's not about feelings and all that fluffy chit.
I'll point out yet more misinformation posted in her post:
1) women don't build muscle like men do. She'd never get "really big" in her upper body without taking some supplements. Just for fun, from a medical journal "Normal testosterone levels. Normal testosterone levels in men are around 280 to 1,100 nanograms per deciliter (ng/dL). Women secrete much lower amounts, with normal levels considered to be between 15 and 70 ng/dL."
2) Testosterone is a massive driver in building muscle. Considering the above what do think would happen if men and women trained exactly the same? I read somewhere a while back that it takes women 6x longer to build muscle than men. I'll have to find it for you.
3) lifting the same weight for the same reps (not saying she does this) for 5 years WILL no longer yield results.
Now the kicker, I've been training with female bodybuilders and crossfighters for almost 4 years now. All the natural females look like trim athletes, not some beefcake looking bloatlords.
That mentality of "I don't want to get too big" in females is exactly why we don't see girls doing heavy lifting. The mentality is wrong.
No hate though, she can sleep on the bench all she wants, but let's not spread incorrect information about females and weights.

I'm saying that when someone who does lift and who is active and healthy comes into a thread like this, not asking for advice, and states their bench numbers, there is no need to make fun of them or shame them. I just think there's a better way to approach it. Something like "Hey SS do you want help getting your bench numbers up?" If she says yes then give advice. If she says no, she's fine with where she's at then drop it.
There's just better ways to approach it. I honestly wasn't even talking about you so much in my last couple posts but about some others who are just ruthless with that kind of crap. They're not going to inspire people to start lifting. They're going to scare people away from it.
Ash, thanks for this thread! I'd rep you but I just did yesterday for your dip vid. Seeing all the womenz posting up their numbers really inspired me to try and see what I could do after being afraid to even try benching due to my shoulder.

Working at a globogym, I heard that countless times over the years. Now, let's suppose that the myths are true: weights make you hyuge, and cardio makes you tiny. If all the people (it's not just women) saying, "I don't want to get too big" really meant it but weren't scared of hard work, we'd see them smashing themselves on cardio. And we don't - they're the ones walking on the treadmill at 4km/hr readingWoman's Day.
"I don't want to get too big" really means, "I don't want to work hard." Which is fine, nobody cares, but don't bullsht yourself or us.
A healthy woman under 50yo who after 3 years can't bench the empty bar is just lazy. 60kg or whatever is a different matter. But not even the empty bar? That's just lazy. That's a Miscer.

Last girl struggled with the bar. Was very sad.
"I'd rather go running"
"I don't want to be all sweaty."
"The bar is rough."

Annoying.
Need to date one of the gym chicks - but they're all taken.

To each their own, but be real about it.
I could understand if they had an injury or something and weren't able to do certain movements. But majority of the reasons are just excuses.

It's true, I could do better. The problem is that I barely eat 1200 cals a day too. If I ate more, I'm pretty sure I can increase my lifts tremendously. I'm terrified of becoming obese again, hence I diet wrong (ie, not a lifter's diet).

Only about 40kg (~90lb) for reps, she's not much of a bencher. I think she squats 80kg (~175lb) for 6 now though which seems pretty good considering she's more of a fitness chick than a lifter. She's pretty small too, only weighs about 52kg, although she did just buy some lifting chalk for deathlifts so I'm kinda worried...
