Brahs I have periodontal disease (srs)

So I've been bad and haven't been to a dentist in two years... until today. I thought all was well until they told me I have periodontal disease. It means bone and tissue starts to erode until your teeth fall out. It can apparently be halted in its tracks, but.....It's incurable, hence for life
Feeling pretty down boyos. I'd do anything to turn the clock back, my lack of conscientiousness will be the death of me. They said it was not severe though... but this sucks big time

Any advice/ thoughts? Any dentistbrahs want to weigh in?

It's typically caused by poor brushing and flossing habits that allow plaque—a sticky film of bacteria—to build up on the teeth and harden. In advanced stages, periodontal disease can lead to sore, bleeding gums; painful chewing problems; and even tooth loss."

Me either. Granted my teeth looked pretty good per my doctor from my last physical but I need to go get a cleaning and an eval. Wife has a similar disease(lived very poor when she was young) and she’s getting treatment starting next year. Gonna be expensive af even with insurance.

I have a hard time believing this. It's not something that happens in a few years. I would suggest a deep cleaning and a new dentist.

Get serious about cleaning your teeth brah. Only thing to do. Brb I've let mine slip during a period when I was just bummed out about life and it's crazy how quickly they started going downhill

Yea they did half of it today. And Gave me a special mouthwash and toothpaste. Will now have to see dentist 4 times a year

You can't regrow enamel. Once it's gone, its gone forever. You can remineralize existing enamel though.

have the same thing apparently.
just have to keep up with the flossing and brushing and as long as the gums havent receded too much, you should be fine.

theres also a procedure to transfer gum tissue to the receded areas.
That + good habbits = I think you will be good. Me too (I hope)

It's is reversible no? I feel like if you start process now you can reverse it considerably. Can't regrow enamal but at least get your gums to stop receding as much and prevent more hardening of plaque to build up.

They prolly just wanted to scare you so you come in more. I mean maybe not

But im pretty sure gingivitis is early stages (which is bleeding gums) and since you werent talking about that, it seems like you werent even there

Good care should reverse it

I went for the first time in over 10 years back in January. I was terrified they were gonna tell me something like that. I was lucky and didn't have any cavities or disease. The dentist seemed amazed it had been that long since I had been. Good luck OP all you can do now is take care of them the best you can. I would definitely get a 2nd opinion though
