I have also had this in university (I am a biologist, finished my bachelor's now doing a MSc. in Biology)

''Natural animals have not decreased'' humans have had a tremendous impact on wild life across the world! In the last 50 years especially.. entire species which have gone extinct due to e.g. habitat destruction

Newbold T, et al. (2015) Global effects of land use on local terrestrial biodiversity. Nature 520:45–50
I see it says measured in carbon, how exactly does this translate into them knowing exactly how many wild animals there are? Is this peer reviewed?

You are right I did not properly explain what I mean. I don't mean that it has to be entirely left alone. Ecotourism for example can bring in a lot of money for the local community, and if trophy hunters want to pay to kill 1 or 2 (not endangered) animals so be it, but don't disrupt an entire population of baboons by killing a large portion of them!

Means cows , chcikens , and pigs, that are fed grain end up pooing a lot more than monkeys.

Unfortunately measuring the impact on the carbon cycle is the best way at the moment to quantify, it is impossible to give absolute numbers of all wild animals. But don't you agree that these proportions are completely out of balance? Also, if you want to know the impact of humans you can compare the numbers of pre-human times vs the numbers now (which of course can only be estimated)

I was like 14 and went to a rainbow trout pond in Colorado..

It was more like a pool.

I grew up around hunting(for food) and farmers, so got used to seeing animals Before being slaughtered or whatever.

I caught a few trout and ready to put em back and this hillbilly ran up saying it’s not catch and release, he’ll show me and my brother what to do.

Proceeds to bash their heads in with a pole on a tree stump. I was mortified. I was like dude wtf this is just messed up we left and didn’t pay .

It was also reported that since the growing calls to end trophy hunting, due in large part to the killing of Cecil the lion in Zimbabwe’s Hwange National Park last year, conservancies like Bubye are no longer seeing the funding necessary to adequately cover conservation costs, which includes fence maintenance, financing local schools and health clinics, and providing meat to local people.

I used to have a problem with hunting until I informed myself by going with them and buying meat from them. That changed everything. I have a whole world of respect for legal hunting.

there's no such thing as balance. current ecosystem is out of balance of north american megafauna relative to the pleistoncene. the earth is out of balance in terms of sauropods relative to the jurrasic period.

edit- with respect to the 7b human population which has changed the face of the globe, animals should be preserved and managed, not left to their own devices. an effective management tool is hunting. its important not to ignore an effective tool because of one's emotions.

ive had a heart shot on a doe and the doe ran probably 15 yards. the shot was so dead nuts, that the heart had partially come out of the deers rib cage (deer was quartered away). have no clue how its body functioned at all, pure adrenaline. it dropped extremely dead in probably 1 mississippi

3. bows have greatly changed in the past 40 years. arrows are now carbon. we now have rangefinders. In short, those studies are invalid today.
4. the article States an instantaneous death is desired. Even with a heart shot deer the deer doesn't die instantly the only case you're getting a instantaneous death is with a complete cranial evacuation..
5. a lots of firearms owners don't shoot for the vitals because they don't want meat damage. those animals die a slow agonizing death. archers always aim for the vitals.
6. that article says nothing about the efficacy of an archery arrow with a Broadhead through the vitals versus a bullet.
1. Ok

2. The point is that it's much more likely with a bow (which was my original point). Maybe I didn't articulate that well enough. The damage done with a bow compared to a gun is different as well. The animal is much more likely to survive and suffer with a misplaced bow shot than a misplaced rifle shot.

3. The fact that bows are made out of different material and some hunters use rangefinders does not change the inherent problems with bow hunting.

4. A shot to the heart will stop the heart instantaneously (barring miracles). They probably could have worded it better. An animal will notdieinstantaneously but it will lose consciousness instantaneously. I would class a shot to the heart as an instantaneous death, because the animal would not suffer at all.

5. Meat becomes tainted when animals die a slow and painful death because they release a stress enzyme. What are you talking about?

6. I did not say anything about this.

How it usually works is that animals are identified by locals in charge of managing them as being a problem animal for various reason such as being older in age and have reached the end of their span of producing offspring so now they are just taking up resources without doing anything to grow or sustain the herd, pack, or whatever it may be.

The decision is then made to remove the animal so they sell that opportunity for relatively large sums of money, for the locals, to kill an animal they need removed anyway. It's not just a free for all where you show up and shoot the first one you see. These are usually closely managed where they take you out to the one that they want killed.

Locals out there are too concerned with daily survival to worry about celebrity lions. Fortunately for them, us Westerners have moved so far beyond survival that we can worry about their wildlife for them

Serial killers typically torture the animals and God knows what else... they like the pain the animals are in...
if this guy was a serial killer or a potential one- he would not be happy with just shooting the animal and I’m assuming he would want to have a ritual from start to finish and that it would be something he’d want to do in private.

According to google, Botswana is lifting the ban on hunting- or working on it
