Just one.

Add me to the "once in awhile" crew. When the numbers get very high I figure even the smallest payout for matching a couple of numbers is still worth trying for.

Dreaming of a billion is fun, but really winning enough for a vehicle or a down payment on a house would be really nice for most of us.

Not sure what argument you're trying to make, but...

$1B * 1:302,000,000 = $3 > ticket price = $2

What makes more sense?
1) buying $20 worth of tickets for a $1M jackpot with odds of 1:300M
2) buying $20 worth of tickets for a $1B jackpot with odds of 1:300M

In terms of NOT wasting an excess amounts of money, what makes more sense?
A) buying $20 worth of lottery tickets
B) buying $1000 worth of lottery tickets

All I'm saying is that we're in a 2) + A) scenario.

I bought $20 for MM. It's fun to think about winning, and I don't need the $20. The lottery for almost everyone is just a weird intangible fantasy story they can experience for a few moments. If that experience is worth the price, and you don't have other pressing issues that need to be addressed with that money, have fun.

A few years ago, there was a national lottery craze when the lotto was some huge record amount.

I remember that some rich family in a rich suburb of California ended up winning the draw. Apparently they dropped a few thousand on tickets and walked away with hundreds of millions or something like that.

I'm thinking about it statistically. The odds of wining with 1 ticket versus 200 tickets is still statistically the same;

1 ticket/302,575,350 odds of winning =A 0.000000003304962 chance of winning

200 tickets/302,575,350 odds of winning = A 0.000000660992378 chance of winning

I'd get $20 worth, but it's a 3 hour drive for the closest place to buy it and no doubt the line there will take hours to get through to purchase it.
