I don't gamble much , other than when the lotto goes huge, but found a scratch off on the ground that wasn't all scratched off, picked it up and scratched it and won a "Big Spin" chance. Went to Sacramento, they paid for a night (or 2? I forget) at a nice hotel, went on the Lotto game show the next day, stood around a table with 7 other people (I think), there was a hole in the table in front of each of us. They put a wobbly gyro ball in the center, went to the guy on my right, then came straight to where I was....and kept going in fell in the hole of the guy to my left who doesn't speak any english. He went on to win $120k on the Big Spin, rest of us got $1200.

The point is that you could buy 2,000 tickets and your odds of hitting that elusive jackpot would still be worse than getting struck by lightening. So getting 200 instead of 1 isn't that big of a deal for your odds in such a massive lottery.

Some one will eventually win. And the common thing everybody that won billions from the lottery is that they bought a ticket for a few bucks.

Not that many. You only hear about the fuarkups. The people who don't get ruined never get in the newspapers.

The valedictorian of my HS class was upper middle class, both parents were doctors. He went off to Harvard and eventually became a doctor too. Senior year, his parents won $900,000 in the lottery. Not a giant jackpot, but it paid for his college and then some. It didn't ruin their lives or his.

Yep, being suddenly given millions means every person will go broke and/or had their lives absolutely rekt by receiving millions of $$$. How that makes sense, I don't know. I mean I understand people are stupid, but to go if you ever succeed, you fail???????????

I would love to take that test.

I feel like this whole thing is rigged and the government is doing a reverse stimulus package to pry money away from the people.

It's actually reverse welfare, since mostly poor people play (except the money collected for 'education' is then re-squandered by the local gvmt again).

I live in Sin City, I never gamble here. But when a lotto reaches in the ridiculous levels, I will throw $20 at it. Not going to go broke because of that and who knows, maybe I win.

And sometimes, I buy Haagan Daz coffee ice cream. Some times I go watch a movie at the theater. Some times I pay $20 to lounge around at a hotel pool.

Currently at $1.6 billion. Cash options (after initial taxes) is $906mil

Me and the GF bought 2 tickets and won $8 and at this point I'm starting to get crazy skeptical. That type of money right there, there's no way that someone won't be cheating in some way to get that money. It's to much to just hand out to regular people.

....or some old lady from Boca Raton that donates it all to some evangelical church.

BTW for those of you claiming to be "above" the idea of gambling (especially when the jackpot is a staggering 1.6billion since noone won last night) I guarantee you spend more than $2 on equally frivolous nonsense like a morning coffee or junkfood or alcohol.

go to your states lottery website and you can see all the winners from your state. This is what my state looked like;

People ARE winning prizes just not bigger ones, which is par for the course even if you tally all the people that walk in and out of you typical Vegas casino.

$2.

Crazy to think that soon, if there’s only 1 winner, they could actually be a billionaire after taxes. Pure cash too.
