I think this would be the safest outcome.

Can you imagine if 1 person wins it ALL? People aren't just gonna stalk him for money they're going to hate him. You'd literally have to vanish off the face of the earth. If you live in a state where you have to show your face, you're essentially phucked. You'll be hounded by the media to no end.

- setup blind trust with you as executor and beneficiary
- change name
- move to new state
- send up 2nd blind trust with you as executor and beneficiary
- set up trust account
- put on wig and grow huge beard
- redeem ticket as executor and state that beneficiary wishes to remain anonymous
- deposit funds in 2nd blind trust
- transfer funds to 1st blind trust
- close 2nd blind trust
- move back
- change name back

The only paper trail after that would be to a false name in the wrong state for a blind trust that is closed.

I personally don't trust the machines to give truly random numbers. My suspicion is that the machines are seeded to make it slightly more likely that some numbers are chosen than not. It doesn't matter which. The results are the same... less chance of an outright winner and more chance that if it is won, it's a shared jackpot. This helps grow the pot to high levels and also helps people think that you can win (seeing 2 or more people winning a jackpot). I will choose my own numbers next time I buy tickets.

Technically, if they wanted to..... they could tell the computer to pick numbers that NOBODY picked in the entire country.....

but next time I am not using computer picks. It picked a lot of 24's, 3's, and 1's on my 10 tickets.

Next time I will pick it.

The lottery by design was made to have runs like this. The government doesn't even have to rig anything because the game was rigged from the start.

It's rigged. Computer will draw numbers that no one has picked so that no one wins and jackpot goes up like crazy due to more and more people buying each drawing and states get a chitload of additional tax revenue.

I know. That's why they increased the number range a couple of years ago. Still, I don't trust the people who programmed the machines. There is no such thing as a truly random number chosen by computer. It would take little effort to make half the numbers slightly more likely and the other half slightly less likely and that would help the lottery see even more of these super jackpots (statistically speaking over many samples). I'd rather choose my own random numbers.

Or buy the tickets at separate times or ask for a new ticket for each set of numbers. I've noticed the same thing as you. When I let the machine pick and buy two or more tickets, all of the numbers for each set seem a bit close. Such as the mega ball being the same on two of them and the numbers in the strings of 5 numbers having a lot of overlap. This is what makes me not trust the machines. Imagine an xy graph with each combination of 5 numbers enumerated on the x axis and each mega number on the y axis. On that graph, if I buy 10 tickets, I don't want them all clustered near each other. I would want them spread about the graph. I know it doesn't affect my probability of winning mathematically, but it makes my OCD happier.

How does that make sense, surely the system would have to duplicate numbers to reduce the chance of an outright winner?

To stay truly anonymous even if the state you're in requires you to come forth publicly. If I just got my hands on $1B, the last thing I want is grifters and lowlifes knowing my name and my address.

"Your chances of winning the $654 million Mega Millions jackpot are a jaw-dropping 302,575,350 to 1, while the likelihood of taking home the $345 million Powerball prize is only slightly better at 292,201,388 to 1. That's why you move out of your place and sell it before you even collect the ticket. You want to go from a hotel to the collection spot, to the bank (if necessary) and then to the airport so you can leave the country that very day. Take your immediate family and any close relatives with you on a 6 month-long, all-expense paid trip and let things calm down while you figure things out. Don't EVER go back to the city/town where you lived unless it's a big one like a NYC or LA.

Hardest thing would be people hassling your parents/brothers/sisters/aunts/uncles trying to get at you. Or dealing with THEM if your family sucks.

I have taken several programming classes when a computer chooses randomly it is in fact random it is a absolute, that is one thing about programming that I like absolution, it either fails entirely because one error or works 100% as intended. There is no patterns, just bad odds because of the range of numbers therefore lower chance to win. The combination of numbers is insane which is why it's so hard to win. It just comes down to luck really buy yourself a $2 ticket and hope you win. The more people who buy tickets the more numbers combinations created, the bigger chance for someone to win.

At this point you are getting in the scary range of money 1.6 billion, you will need to relocate your family you care about for sure if you win. You will no longer be able to go in regular bars or stores anymore. You may want to hire body guards at all time, even at 5-10 million you would want body guards on the regular. Hope that you have people that love you already because at 1.6b everyone loves you you won't know when it's real anymore. As good ole bobby axelrod puts it's being a billionaire is like having perfect set of tits and ass 10/10 everyone wants a peice of it.
I just want to share the knowledge I have obtained throughout my life and hopefully change someone's life.

If you're spending $20 a week on lottery tickets, that's stupid. But, if you spend $20 a year and only play the jackpots over $500M, that $20 has ZERO impact on your finances, but the tiny possibility of a $500M+ windfall more than makes up for the ticket costs.
The possiblity of you getting the jackpot is about the same as me getting a girlfriend.

In bold, not true.

It's not possible to generate a truly random number on a deterministic machine. A computer is by definition a deterministic machine.

Because of that fact, one has to always be skeptical unless you yourself programmed the algorithm. That's all I said above. That I didn't trust the programmers (because I don't know them or what algorithm is in use). Skepticism is healthy. It keeps people honest.
