watch a few documentaries , they did things on their later albums that had never been done before

wasn't just them, also their manager and engineers

I’m glad you posted this thread. I don’t think they’re the worst, but I do think they’re overrated. Mostly by older generations.

70% of their music is boy band garbage made specifically for a target audience of young girls at the time.


The other 30% is considered the most influential music ever. I don’t care for it much but almost all those 70s, 80s and 90s band seem to reference them.

personally , i think all things must pass is a great album and has two of the best songs out of everything he did

If you look at the way they wrote their songs and chord progressions they were ground breaking for the time. Same with the way their music was mixed and produced. That's why they are considered among the best and most influential, whether you like the style or not.

They were also one of the first bands to "evolve" their music over a couple of different genres where other artists stayed exactly the same.

Last live performance was 1966 and their last album came out in 1970 - so they didn't even need to tour to make money.

I can understand the case for most influential, but no way are they the best. I hear this argument all the time, but they don't even make my top 20 bands of all time. It's appropriate that a huge movie is coming out now on them, but in my opinion, Queen is the greatest band of all time. They are obviously known for their hits, but listen to their albums front to back, and you will realize that they really never made a bad song. They are pretty much the perfect rock band.

So many edge lords itt, it's not even some unique rebel opinion, tons of people call the beatles overrated now to the point that they'll become underrated eventually lol. I think it is telling that to this day, actual musicians from rock to hip hop cite the beatles as a primary influence. You may not like the Beatles but I assure you an artist you do like has been influenced heavily by the Beatles.

All Things Must Pass is fantastic. Repped for isn't It a Pity. Wah Wah is about him telling Paul to Shut the Phuc Up


Paul was far and away the most talented. He plays every instrument, and had a fantastic voice. He plays all the drums on Back In the USSR, Ballad of John an Yoko, the whole McCartney, and Band on The Run albums.

They are the farthest thing from overrrated. 3 guys wrote songs and sang lead. George put out Here Comes The Sun an Something, which, Frank Sinatra said was the greatest love song of the 20th century.

McCartney wrote, Yesterday, Let It Be, Hey Jude Sgt Pepper was his ideal

John wrote a Day in the Life, Strawberry Fields Forever.

All classics. Listen to their sound in 1963 then in 1968/1969. Completely different. They could play love songs, hits songs, hard rock songs. Listen to I Want To Hold Your Hand, From Me To You and Please Please Me. Then listen to I Got A Feeling, Helter Skelter, and Don't Let Me Down 5 year span, you wouldn't say they were the same band if you didn't know.

The Beatles were pretty innovative. The had a lot of "firsts".

-First rock song to not use rock instruments (Eleanor Rigby)
-First rock song to not use a drum kit (And I Love Her)
-First song to use backwards recording (Strawberry Fields)
-First song to use a recording mistake, a big no-no back then (I Feel Fine)
-First song to use a non-traditional instrument (Norwegian Wood)
-First rock song to use a jazz chord (forget which song)

Lots of other examples.

I'd say they are more a product of their time and place. They were a boy band marketed to a generation of 16-20 year old Baby Boomer *******s, in an environment where major labels/studios could control almost all the music put out on the radio and records in stores.

I would easily take Hendrix, Doors, Rolling Stones, Zeppelin, Joplin and I'm sure a few others over the Beatles.

Their influence can't be overstated, but I really don't think their songs aged very well.
