They were a manufactured pop band.
Some nice songs, but they are still a boy band at the end of the day

The early pop stuff wasn't exactly ground breaking. They had a strong sense of melodic hooks and harmony, though. Infectiously catchy tunes. But when they went all experimental, post-dosing, they really helped push the boundaries of what popular artists could do. Beach Boys were just as important, although not as commercially successful. (But not many are, if any.)
And George Martin was a major part of the Beatles revolutionary aspects.

I always looked at them as a cool period piece, but their music never grabbed me like Elvis, Hendrix, Marley, etc.

Ok...I’m not going to do a very good or complete job of explaining this...but I read through all the posts, and This is all wrong. Focusing on the Beatles music as the core of what made them “really that great” is only looking at one peice of the puzzle.
The Beatles aren’t immortal primarily because of their music...it’s because of their INFLUENCES on both music AND people at the time. Sure, they had some catchy tunes, and they definately did some truly groundbreaking things, but most importantly they were an influential stepping stone for the ENTIRE direction of all of all future rock and roll. But they also used their prestige and power to initiate, support, or condem various political and cultural movements of the time. They pretty much represented youth culture and empowered a generation.

Their influence can't be overstated, but I really don't think their songs aged very well.
Ready for negs for this...
Wu Tang "My Heart Gently Weeps" is better than My Guitar Gently Weeps.
Motley Crue's "Helter Skelter" >>>> The Beatle's version.

Could never stomach any of their songs. There was a girl in my middle school who had: A Beatles backpack, at least 5 different Beatles t-shirts, Beatles pictures and pins on her binder, etc.
I can only imagine what it was like during the Beatles' prime. Would anyone actually listen to One Direction if the boys were ugly? How about the Jonas brothers? Who would give a sh!t about Justin Bieber if he wasn't that cute little teenage boy to so many girls obsessed over?
Women are responsible for the attention on looks in media which they vehemently deny.
Basically the Beatles suck

Great band and arguably one of the most influential bands of all time.
There later stuff was especially good, they totally reinvented themselves. Love songs like Day in the life, Eleanor Rigby, I am the Walrus, Hey Jude etc.

Sure there early stuff was definitely very mainstream and they are the original boy band but come on their later stuff was very experimental, Sgt Peppers was a milestone album and saw them grow beyond their original sound.

They have so many amazing songs. Blackbird being my favorite.
Hey Jude
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Let it be
You could literally go through their top 50 tracks and know every single one of them.
I do like Paul McCartney on his own better
