Nadal looked like the better player for most of the match and ultimately a couple of points decided it. Djokovic came up clutch and that win flicked the switch for the rest of the season. He loses that match and maybe he'd still be struggling instead of feeling unbeatable again. Shows how small the margins are.

The stars have really aligned for Djoker this year. Not that he hasn't been playing good tennis, but IMHO nothing amazing.

Good soft draws at Wimby and USO, a faltering Fed, an injured Nadal and the rest of the joke field = Djoker laughing all the way to the bank.

Nice win for Khachanov in Moscow.

Russians had that tournament locked up for the better part of 20 years winning it 14 times. Khachanov is the first Russian to win it since Youzhny in 2009. Would mean a lot to him.

Congrats on #99 for Federer. Looks like he isn't quite done just yet. Paris will be more telling of where he is at though.

Nice win by Svitolina as well. Not sure why she isn't getting as much as attention as someone like Bouchard did. She's just as attractive imo.

You never know when a Top 100 player with 0 titles and who's nearly 30 will come out of obscurity and play like he's knocking on the Top 5. It was Copil's turn this week. Serve and BH were right out of the top drawer.

Anyway 8 finals for Federer this year. Easy to forget how many chances he's thrown away to be #1 this year. Nice to finally win another title especially at home. For some reason he's been starting strong in matches winning the opening set and then going off the boil. The 2nd serve is approaching Andy Murray levels.

My stringer buddy knows him well since they're both Romanian. I was asking him why Copil isn't ranked higher since he seems to have some legit weapons.... he said it's the same problems that plague most players... proper mentality and week-in-week-out consistency. He's got some great weapons. No reason he couldn't crack the top 25.

Nadal withdrew before the Verdasco match citing an abdominal injury. Novak returns to #1 on Monday.

Raonic was scheduled to play Federer but also pulled out.

Damnit, and here I was hoping for an epic YE battle for #1. Rafa is so unlucky.

In other news, Federer decline to play in Saudia Arabia. Hopefully Nadal and Djokovic withdraw from playing there as well.

ATP should really reconsider their scheduling if 1 masters 1000 gets shafted so fukking hard every year.

If I were the Paris-Bercy tournament organizers I'd be fukking fuming every year when half my field pulls out beforehand and the other half retires during matches.

Is this supported by stats or just your undying love for Rafa?

Dominic Thiem wouldn't be Top 30 without his clay points. Nadal racked up 5500 of his 7660 total points in the last 52 weeks on clay. That leaves 2160 which would currently put him at #17.

Thiem is a non factor off clay and Nadal has either withdrawn or retired from 12 HC tournaments this past year.

HC is the most competitive surface by a milewhich is why the excuses roll out during the HC season and not on dirt where he's running like a gazelle. Sorry to tell you that mate.

Yuck Novak returning to #1.. Can't see him being beaten at all, he's back to his robotic best. If he's fit/healthy I'd put him down for all 4 majors next year.

And I'm not a fan of him.

It's a shame Copil didn't have a chance to play Paris. Could be feasting on Nadal's wide open quarter like Jaziri and getting a crack at the mighty Jack Sock.



The ATP needs to put something in place for these situations where a qualifier goes deep into a 500 draw and can't enter qualifying for a Masters that starts on Monday. Maybe some kind of discretionary wildcard and if it's not needed the spot goes to a lucky loser.

Just doesn't seem fair for a guy who was playing so well with all that momentum to be denied the chance to compete in the last Masters of the season which is ripe for upsets.

2:20 looked like a Top 10 player.
