OP, a lot of people responding to you are just cope'rs. If you ever get a chance to meet a truly happy/fulfilled person you'll be able to contrast it and see just how many people are just absolutely miserable or exist in an area I call "no mans land" ... where they aren't happy but aren't unhappy enough to do anything about it.

What you're doing at your age is completely natural for anyone of reasonable intelligence and awareness. The absolute worst thing you can do is listen to all the 9-5 cope'r adults that gave up on their dreams tell you to shut-up, suck it up, and except the cookie cutter life. Sure... you can distract yourself through your 20's and most of your 30's with cool toys, drugs, alcohol, partying, 1 week vacations ... but eventually it's going to hit you hard ... and you're going to be wondering where the last 20 years of your life went. You might even double down on the misery like most people and say, "Well... I'm too old to do something new" and just ride that cope to your death bed where regret will really hit you hard.

As a human you're programmed to explore, grow, and experience new things. That's why life as a child->teen seems so slow (so many new experiences) and starts speeding up as an adult (same dreary routine chit 24/7 year after year = no new experiences). As a programmer you can work anywhere in the world. Use that to your advantage to try new things.

I get what you are trying to say this but also it doesn't allow different things - IT work is very similar in spite of context.

Another flaw of the argument is that it is about fulfilling and enjoyment not necessarily being hit with random and new adrenaline rushing **** everyday - if that was the case everyone would be programmed to be law enforcement which fits this description quite nicely.

In reality, i HATE my life. Ive had 2 "first dates" this year, thats about what i average every year. I literally have no time to even meet girls. I literally work/rush every waking hour of my life. I notice girls staring at my in stores, gym, etc but I have no time to talk, always in a huge rush. I dropped literally every hobby I have except fitness and its extremely hard to keep that up. the MAXIMUM amount of sleep its even possible for me to get is 6.5 hours but i usually get 4 to 6 tops.

Im working on changing my life but its hard. I dont think the lack of a GF is my problem, its the fact that its literally impossible for me to have time for one, that fact that I lost all my hobbies, dont have mych time for friends, etc. Even as I type this im doing paperwork for my rentals. im literally busy every minute of my life.
I remember meeting a former Cisco Exec when I was hiking. He talked quite a bit about being a slave to his wealth. That Fight Club quote about your thing owning you seems cliche but it's absolutely true. That chit can suck you in and you can end up spending a ridiculous amount of time and money just maintaining it and never actually enjoying it. The worst case scenario is you find out you have cancer, a year to live, and you'll never really get to enjoy it.

I'm an IT person. You can go to any part of the USA/world and find work. You can sit in your boxers on a beach with a laptop and do website design. I've been trying to get an IT job in Antarctica of all places.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say in your second paragraph. I'm not sure if you're saying life should be about fulfillment vs adrenaline rush?

If you're like most people (including me). You probably have severe tunnel vision about what you can/can't do with your life. Meaning, there are probably a ton of things you've passed judgement on that you find interesting but have completely written off as impossibilities. Reminds me of:

"Everyone knows what they're interested in, but they've got some off-switch where they've passed a judgement on it. Where it's like, "Well I can't do that" or "I could never make money doing that" or "I could never tell my parents I do that", and so they believe... it's so patently obvious to them that they could never do that... they could never tell the world they could do that... they they brush it off... and it's like stumbling over gold. So they're there in their mental construct and the answer is ubiquitous... it's the thing they love doing, it's the thing that makes them most happy... and a lot of times... that thing on its surface seems stupid. And so they don't push, and therein lies the tragedy; they're letting other peoples view of what they like and are interested in stop them from pursuing their passion." - Tom Bilyeu

If you're a skilled programmer you can easily be your own boss. Do freelance, design websites, use your current business/co-workers contacts to do a start up or join one, stuff like that. You don't have to stick to a single work environment. Also start thinking about what other careers or life opportunities in general entice you; don't throw away a great paying career path just because you had a brief existential crisis. Have a well thought-out plan before pulling the trigger on anything.

This is often problematic for a lot of people for a few reasons.

You can have a well thought plan, pull it off, and still hate life. Why? Because many people have corrupt belief structures and wrongly think that achieving x,y, and z will give them fulfillment, happiness, and peace of mind. Celebrities hating life is the most notable example of this. You also have people that have good belief structures and a plan but they never give it 110% because they're still holding onto the comfort provided from working their 9-5 or whatever. Since they never give it their all... or burn the bridge to take the island... they often fall short. They lack faith in themselves and use their cope life as a safety net. Worse, every time they fail and fall back to that safety net it simply reinforces failure and the lack of faith in themselves.

Where i think most people fail really hard is at the beginning of it all. They lack a powerful vision and clarity. You need to be able to close your eyes and live the life you want in your mind... feel it in your bones... and let that vision drive you forward. For most people, what they want out of life... or who they want to be is more like a fog... or a mirage. It's usually not very clear, floats from one idea to another, and leaves them scatterbrained and on an emotional roller-coaster. And so they never really get off the ground. They fail before they get any real traction. Typical of the chronic New Years resolution people.

That quote is so cringe. No one even gets it and the way he says it like he's just discovered the meaning of life. Everyone sits there smiling and clapping. Cringe to the max.

Bro

Do software sales in SaaS or even cyber security.

Look for BDR/SDR jobs at the big companies. You make more money and get to BS with people on the phone and in person. Once you hit your goal they leave you alone and you stack it up

OP,

You're so young... you have no "real" problems, nothing you're really missing out on, so your brain finds and makes small problems big. If you were late twenties, with some debt, a family that depended on you, you'd be feeling super fulfilled with your job.

Everybody feels what you feel here and there. Keep your job, do a good job, learn more technologies and impress your managers, move up or take new offers while you consider what will really be your future. If you like tech at all, you'll find something that will make you feel fulfilled whether thats a new company, your own company, freelancing, a new app, etc.

True that man (bolded) This is actually why im trying to change my life and cut down on working so hard.

A co-worker recently got brain cancer. Hes only 10 years older than me. I remember it was a monday that he was complaining about a really bad headache, I was making fun of him and joking with him, the next day he got a cat scan, it said he had a tumor, they kept him at the hospital and scheduled surgery for the next day. He had a seizure that night and they did early emergency surgery. He didnt wake up and was in a coma for a week. now he's kinda alert but partially paralyzed and doing some physical therapy but still has an agressive brain cancer and is nowhere close to out of the woods yet. He was pretty normal that monday, and his life completely changed in less than 24 hours.

Could be worse... you could have neck tats that you regret that cost $500 a sessions to remove with a minimum of ten sessions and 2 months between sessions.

Laser removal is hella expensive. It would cost 5-10k to remove and there is no guarantee that it will ever be completely removed.

I basically have to wait til tech improves and/or prices go down as more clinics pop up.

I didn't read. But the fact is unless by some combination of (Luck, opportunity, preparation) you find financial freedom at an early age you will have to work a job that is more than likely not something you are passionate about, just something you can "live with" doing to pay the bills.

That being said your choices are what decide your happiness or lack there of.
- There's the dude making 40k/year doing simple tradie work, living in an efficiency drinking PBR's who goes kayaking every weekend, has a loving GF and is loving the fck out of his life. Wishing he was rich....
- Then there's the CEO 10k/day who has not a single worry about money... But spends his life stressed out, cant enjoy things without being a snob, no close friends....

What I'm trying to say is the "Do what you love" Advice is 100% spot on. But for most people that doesn't pay the bills. So "do what you can tolerate, that still gives you the balance in life you are looking for " IMO.

Once you get ^^ that part down. Financial freedom is only 2/3 things(Luck, opportunity, preparation) away....
Are you not entertained?

Work is work. The time away from work is where you should get most of your enjoyment/excitement. Use the money you make at work to have as much fun as you can outside of it.

Definitely some Bulgarian defect in the brain genetics, I know lots of BG people that feel this way (myself included)

But yea, my first few months of work felt horrific...like a dead end of sorts. Felt stuck here, doing something I don't really care for, with no plans for changing it...even though I was better off than a lot of people.

Now I've just come to cope with work is work. It's not always going to be fun, and very few people actually do what they truly enjoy while making a living.

My advice would be to try and land a job with really flexible hours, remote work, lots of PTO, and as little micromanagement as possible. That way you can misc a bit, work a bit, be in the office for 6 hours some day, etc. And then use all that extra time and energy to make a plan to make more money.

That's where I'm at, idk what's next
