“if you raise the minimum wage then the price of everything else will go up!”
costs of living have been increasing anyway. it’s been that way since forever. but wages have largely stagnated since the early 80s. why would anyone want it to stay that way?

Because it will negatively affect small businesses. The majority of small businesses fail. The remaining ones have a hard enough time competing against major corporations. A lot of small business owners are working 60+hrs per week to barely turn a profit. Increasing minimum wage would mean they are forced to pay lowly/unskilled employees more money.
Skilled laborers are already making well above the minimum wage. If you bring something to the table of value, you are compensated for it.

Because a combination of people being fired due to higher operation costs, so people go from making minimum wage to making $0, and the rise in price of products/cost of living. The people who think raising the minimum wage is a good idea, will mostly be destroyed and jobless by the former, the middle class will be destroyed by the latter.

Anyone working should be making more than $8 an hour these days imo. Just ridiculous for people to actually be employed making $900 a month you can't live on that
Like i care if i have to spend another $30 a month on things lol

Many large companies have set their starting wage well above the national minimum wage anyway. Increasing the national minimum wage will hurt smaller businesses more than anything else.

my point is that things are becoming more expensive regardless. but wages are not increasing. it goes beyond minimum wage. i make $78k as an engineer right now. my friend’s dad was making the same amount when he was my age as an engineer in 1983. yet he bought his first house for $70k and his college tuition was like $15 per credit hour.

Some small businesses can literally not afford it. Taxes should be lowered and then maybe raise minimum wage

it hurts businesses and minimum wage workers. imagine you own a bar that is just making it in the green...profit wise. Now the minimum wage goes up and you gotta dish out thousands more every 2 weeks for your 15 employees. now that the wages have gone up.....your profits go way down. Sometimes low enough to the point where the owner is in the red each month.
Now, what do you do? as an owner you cannot accept being in the red every month. you gotta let go 5 workers. Now 5 people have less jobs. you think these 5 people are happy the minimum wages went up.
this will happen with many companies. lots of jobs will be lost. even like a large casino that has 500 employees will not accept a profit loss. they will just cut people.
how about these minimum wage workers get a better job. minimum wage is for young people. let them make the minimum and upgrade their skills to get better jobs.

Because it’s pointless...
I used to work in McDonald’s while in high school. Everybody was so happy that we were getting bumped from $8/hr to $10/hr. Guess what happened next? Our hours got cut so our paycheck ended up being around the same anyways.
The point is employers will do whatever it takes to not lose money if they have to pay their workers more.
This is the result.

If you want more money learn a new skill and get a better job.
