To be fair to Mr Chau if things had gone the other way it would have potentially been the most important moment in his life. As an EMT he probably saved peoples lives in the physical world and felt called to give them that opportunity in a spiritual sense. The problem though is that if this guy wasn't a complete fool he would know that these kinds of attempts to "convert" or "study" have always been disastrous for these primitive tribes. At best, they get exploited, have their homes destroyed, and their language and culture are more or less made extinct within a few generations. At worst, they just get wiped out, usually by disease.
