At what point has a person lived "long enough"? What is the metric by which you judge a life as complete? Because I judge it the same way nature does: Did the person reproduce and will his kids survive to reproductive age? If so, he succeeded. If you love your life, it makes sense that you would want to live as long as possible, but really, we evolved death. We don't normally die of trauma. We are not biologically immortal. We age and die in a relatively controlled manner. We evolved the lifespan we have. It is detrimental for you to live a whole lot longer. NBD to not give a damn about the death of a stranger. Should have just ignored the thread or maybe posted "don't care" if you feel the need. Public grief is often a social signalling thing.
Celebrities are strangers to me so in most cases I don't care with the exceptions being ones that I was particularly fond of. I would care more about the early death of a relative of an acquaintance, not because of the complete stranger who has died, but because of my acquaintance's feelings for that person. Other early deaths that get to me are of people that were similar to me (or people close to me), or people that had particularly compelling personal stories, or had some special gift or skill.
I think you are missing the point a bit re:reproduction being the main goal in life. Yeah, I get the genetic legacy thing, but so what? I could get it if we were talking about someone that loves children and gets a lot of satisfaction out of being a parent. But that doesn't sound like where you are at.
