They didn't have much foresight. The native population was already a fraction of what it used to be due to the European diseases that spread up from South and Central America. From what I understand of history, the native tribe that accepted and helped the pilgrims were even worse off from the diseases than their neighboring tribes, making them very vulnerable to attack from rival tribes. They helped the pilgrims because they were seen as potentially useful allies, and at that time the colony's population was still too small to be seen as a real danger.

Needless to say, they really came to regret that decision.

There should be an invasion of the island with an armed group of soldiers. If these savages are so violent and kill every visitor to the island, they don't deserve to live there without any governmental involvement.

Most eastern native American tribes were peacefully absorbed into the population. The holdouts like the Cherokee backed the wrong side in major wars. They fought for the British so of course as a hostile nation they were dealt with forcefully.

Anyone that can make it through all that hardship and suffering that Native Americans have experienced and rise to the top, have more grit and determination than anybody. You know theyre a fighter. Overcoming the systemic racism and destruction of the white man is no easy task. Thats why Im rooting for Elizabeth Warren in 2020, I know she has what it takes to save this country after what her maw maw and paw paw have been through.

It's likely that they had the technology with them before they went to the island and became isolated. The same with fire, especially as the controlled use of fire was around even during the time of Homo erectus. However, it's likely that fire was either too difficult to make there due to environmental factors and/or probably wasn't all that useful on a small tropical island. As such, the ability was eventually lost to time.

I read an article that said they wait on lightning strikes and then keep the embers going and feed it into a fire and then maintain the fire as long as possible. So they can use fire, they just can't make it.
