I guess your right

So it's just life and being raised in the bush you would know it's very common to have bear attacks,

yet the mom went for a walk alone without bear protection with a small baby? I know car crashes happen but isn't that like driving around without a seat belt or baby carrier?

Sorry to hear that OP what a tragic loss for the husband ..

Bears are hard to kill. I have heard so many stories of them getting shot multiple times and they would still keep on charging

Not going to lie, the misc has made me wary so when I first read this yesterday, I wasn't sure. Really sorry to hear this. Agree with above, for the husband/father, I have no idea how he moves on from something like this. It's horrifying.

This is partially true and not at the same time. There is a lot of repeated BS about bears, grizzly especially, having concrete skulls and having so much fat and muscle that nothing will penetrate except a high powered rifle, which is completely untrue. That video for instance I believe the guy had bird shot or something pretty light weight, so it just peppered it without penetrating. A 5.56/9mm/etc will easily punch right through a bear's skull, it's just that the shot placement is obviously very important. They have a massive looking head, but the actual skull is pretty slim and not nearly as big as you'd expect. For a torso shot, the type of bullet definitely becomes more important though. A quality hard cast bullet that is going to penetrate is important for a handgun. Lots and lots of guys that live in bear country carry a Glock 20(10mm) with Underwood or Buffalo Bore hard cast 200-220 grain bullets. Still not ideal compared to a 12 gauge or large caliber rifle, but 15+1 rounds and easier to shoot quickly and accurately than a 44 mag or .500 S&W will give you a solid chance. There was a study done relatively recently that I'll try to find that showed like a 95% survival rate for when someone carrying a gun(any and all types) that gets at least 1 shot off. Bears can definitely take some rounds and keep coming, but there are also plenty of cases of one being dropped immediately with the right shot placement.

He didnt have slugs or buckshot. it was some warning shot and only had 1 left in the shotty. People saying a shotgun wont kill a bear? rofl.

I've read you want to aim for the shoulders, since it will keep them from being able to move well and probably scare the **** out of them when they can barely move an arm.

My first thought I have to admit is wtf is a 32 year old doing hanging out with someone young enough to have a mother young enough to have a newborn.

That's irrelevant to the fact this is so very sad though, so condolences to you and her family.

It's the same with male lions.

A male lion will torment you and fuc with you for hours before killing you. They will pick you up and drag you somewhere out of sight just to torture you. Just like how house cats fuc with mice. srs

edit: although i'm not saying bears torture people on purpose like male lions.

Anyway, my thoughts go out to the guy and i hope he can find strength at this difficult time.
