you didnt address anything bro.

you didnt address the fact that education costs what, 20,000% more regardless of the field.

you didnt address the fact that wages are about 20% lower when adjusted for inflation

you didnt address the fact that healthcare costs are much higher, relatively

you didnt address the basic premise that costs and debts have gone up and income has gone down. you just ignored it and tried to explain it away with a single example of underwater basket weaving lol

and just lol at spending habits accounting for even 1% of the difference and having a 24 year factory job

A lot of you are missing the point of the thread. OP is a graduate degree professional who is a lawyer that put the time in for a quality education but is getting paid like a truck driver (well on average, less).

20 years ago, lawyer = nice lifestyle
20 years ago, STEM masters = nice lifestyle

Now you're starting at the bottom or close to and working your way up. You're putting in 6 years of school plus 4 years experience to get to 90k/yr, excluding California & New York. JUST LOL if you don't see the difference.

The whole labor force has been shifted down in value in a concerted move. You can preach self help to yourself but you're a single data point. I have been successful, but it's only because I got my school paid for with public benefits (GI Bill).

OP is a soyboy liberal who wants to blame society for all his problems. In reality, there are plenty of highly successful millennials. Heck, i wouldn't even consider myself highly succesful, but I do well enough to have a roof over my head, a pay for a new car, and go on a few nice vacations a year. Stay blaming the world on your problems OP instead of making life style choices to get you to the next level. See how that works out for you.

wtf are you talking about? he answered every question and is right.
most millenials don't know what they want and go to college "just to go" and to fit in, meanwhile they don't realize they're stacking debt instead of building wealth

WHO THE FUC.K goes to school for 6-8 years after high school only to get their Master's in psychology or something? I mean seriously look at the fuc.king facts dude, most millenials DO NOT want to work. They find comfort in university and having someone else give them work / hold their hands.

I'm 25 years old and barely fit in with anyone my age. They all have a different mentality and it's going to come back and bite them + our economy.

LOL...You said your generation has it rough and couldnt do things your parents generation could (summarizing). I clearly demonstrated exactly how you could have the same "lucky" lifestyle your parents experienced if you lived the same lifestyle and didnt make idiotic choices....

You can still get a degree in a local community college in a relevant field and WORK your way through college with very low amount of loans
You can still buy a starter house that reflected your parents lifestyle without sinking you financially
You can still live below your means and afford to invest
You can still get healthcare that wont sink you financially

^^^Prove me wrong

...again you want things and a lifestyle that was simply unheard of when your parents were making their way through life - so you feel cheated.

Nobody is complaining about millenials over this.

People are complaining about millenials wanting be paid enough money to buy a house and invest while they work their part-time job at Starbucks, or pay off their useless degree.

Truth right here.

You can argue all day long to HERP DERP just make it or some crap but if you look at the actual wages and inflation (minus tech and a couple other fields) you're basically ****ed compared to 20 years ago. This is double true in some states (California) where you're a wage slave unless you're a nurse, doctor or work for ********/Google/etc.

I always use myself as example. I make 18/hr as a paramedic. It was a solid 1.5 years of school to get this cert on top of EMT cert and all the classes (ACLS, PALS, PHTLS, ITLS, AMLS, EVOC, etc) that you have to do. The usual response from people here is "Just do something else dumb ass" without realizing that this is a required job for society to function. The fact that I'm paid what I am and will never, ever, ever own a house or even a car that is less than 7-8 years old says something about the environment, not my work values. This isn't just my field. It's the field for a lot of people who do the jobs that mean you can function and drive to work for whatever job it is you do. Scary thought to think that the dude who might be saving your mom or dad's life is on hour 80 of their workweek and hasn't slept in a couple days.

The problem with miscers is they're too autistic to understand society crumbling around them and instead try to pull the CEO/10k a day crap as real life when it's not.

Millennials are too lazy to do jobs that are actually difficult to do by and large which is why they all become baristas.

I made 102,000 as a cop last year.

My friend who is a plumber made 80k and my girlfriend who is a nurse made roughly 70.

If you CHOOSE to work a job that pays less (whether for society, personal values or whatever) then that is on you.

I agree with almost all of this.

The one point that the OP made which was valid is the rising cost of higher education and school loans. The rise in cost of education has far outpaced inflation over the last 50 years. Much of that increase took place between '85 - '95.

My father is a Dentist (retired). He lived in a trailer by the side of the highway for half a decade while building his practice....It wasnt very glamorous according to my mom and he definitely didnt walk into a mansion and a luxury car. Their Friday night fun was waving at the truckers that went by on the highway....and he went to one of the most prestigious Dental schools in the nation.

He rode a bike to his office most days because they had one piece of crap car....

Where did this fantasy come from that you could get a good degree and be instantly wealthy during the boomer years?

Doctors still had to build practices
Lawyers still had to build practices
People still had to work their way up in the ranks
Business owners still had to invest and build their businesses

There never has been a silver spoon for the average man....Its NEVER been easy....and if you want to talk about the lifestyle and working conditions of being a boomer, we can. They worked twice as hard as we ever will in conditions that most of us would consider abusive.

Purely from personal experience and watching my friends grow up I saw

1. The guys who really made all came from wealthy families
2. About half of the guys who studied/worked hard made it to what you would call the current middle class, the rest turned poor or have ****ty jobs
3. All the rest failed miserably

In any case life in the 2000'ish was miles better then it was now... it is cutthroat out there right now... count your blessing boyos that you live in the civilized world because it is terrible out there

Not sure where I stand on this.

I feel my generation is objectively worse than my parents'. Less work ethic, no financial literacy, taking useless degrees, unwilling to delay instant gratification and spending money they don't have on travel etc. they cannot afford, the list goes on.

On the other hand, the job market is objectively 10x worse now than it was when our parents were young. And this includes people that put in time for real degrees - law, STEM fields, etc. Wages have stagnated. Yet, the cost of education has skyrocketed resulting in a student loans crisis. Housing has also gotten far more expensive, even accounting for inflation. As have most consumer goods.

As usual, the truth is probably somewhere in between...

A lot of people in this thread who doesn't realise that they are in fact millennials.

"demographers and researchers typically use the early 1980s as starting birth years and the mid-1990s to early 2000s as ending birth years."

Meh, in my experience, our parents generation did work harder and weren't such pussies. I have had it really easy compared to my dad. Our environment that allows for success/ease of success is probably worse, but we are definitely bigger pussies on a personal level.

I will say though, that the education thing is 100% correct. Not only is "education" often useless and unneeded - but the fact that they charge so much when it CLEARLY is not worth what they are charging. BRB throw up the same power point slides for the 10th year in a row or have some liberal hack grade papers to hand out degrees that offer no tangible skills. BRB "non profit", better increase all of our salaries and buy a helicopter. It's bull ****. I'd be interested to hear them all explain how college became so much more expensive in the last 20-30 years despite advances in technology. Because as far as I can tell, you could send me all your PDF files for the class and I never would have to leave my house and I would get the same experience minus the drinking and ****ing around.

Why are people blaming boombers or anybody besides the schools/.gov for the increased education cost?

Once the .gov decided to back basically all student loans, colleges were like **** yeah we'll raise our prices ten fold to make some more money. So what if the person doesn't graduate? they still gon' get paid. So now lenders dont give a **** about your major or your ability to payback the loan. That's why they will loan out $200k for a 100% USELESS ****ing degree that even at best has little to no ability to pay back that loan, ever. They don't care they will still get paid. So schools say **** it and just keep jacking their prices up. All while preaching and sending funds out to make everybody a slave to college. Newsflash back in the day not everybody has degrees, so degrees meant something. Now days? Everybody has one, it ain't that special anymore.

Lawyer, not making money? No ****, its a completely over saturated industry now. Unless you're going to a T14 school or going into lobbying, no point in expecting huge $$.

Lol at the 30 y/o boomers posturing about doing 1% better than their peers and thinking that they are Gordon Gecko. Muh grabbing life by the scruff of the neck

Europeans have it worse than Americans too. The bureaucracy, socialism - and the fact that house prices are unreal - and EU fuel prices making US gas look like orange juice.

There is a phenomenon here with rural people having to move into cities once they move out of the nest because boomer holiday homes have made house prices unobtainable for the people whose ancestors have lived there for centuries. There are no young people in the Scottish Highlands and Cornwall because of it. Phucking sad.

today, when many of the millenial generation graduated or entered the workforce right around the 2008 housing crisis, they have far greater debts, and far less income.

millenials paid something like, what, 1,200% more than the boomer generation for education (ive seen figures ranging from 1000% more to 20,000% more lololololol)

millenials earn something like, what, 20% less than the boomer generation when accounting for inflation

and they wonder why nobody is buying a house

the boomers were entitled as

anyway go fist yourselves
It's not that the economy was so great it was just a time before everyone started price gouging on everything.

That is phucking sad brah. It happens in the US too. I grew up rural and it was either not work, work for my family or move.

The problem with miscers is they're too autistic to understand society crumbling around them and instead try to pull the CEO/10k a day crap as real life when it's not.
i mean.. id like to look at birth rates, but it makes sense with a growing population

more of the population are going to take up more jobs and create competition. also, more people are going to college so.. just by volume alone it is going to be much harder

add on top with more volume they'll also take up more industries.

if you were in computers in the 80's you were in a burgeoning industry which made it really, really easy to make money (i mean.. when it took off). over time it becomes much harder as more people flock to it and try to milk it

not to mention the big boys up at the top have made their money and will try to keep everyone at bay

that being said, i do think there are solutions. but it is undoubtedly harder

Haha, this. Miscers love chitting on those slightly worse off than them, while they lick the boots of CEOs. I can guarantee that everyone in this thread has more in common with a cleaner than a CEO.

Fun fact, CEOs now earm 312x the average wage, up from 20x in 1965. Meanwhile wage growth is stagnant despite the growing economy. Does anyone actually think this is a good thing?

I have a feeling 2019 and 2020 are going to be hard times for our economy. Boomers will start cashing out of their investments and most millennials are too stupid or don't even invest to keep it going
As a millennial, this is indeed true. They don't teach personal finance in high school, which would be helpful. Most kids my age do not know what a 401k or IRA is.

My favorite part is that when I am moaning about boomers, I can look back in the prior 7 days and see the amount I've been partying.

Redpill post, thanks brah.
