Gotcha.
Obviously you have to find a balance, the key is living within your means. I greatly enjoyed my 20's while making under $50,000 for most of it, and still saving over $1,000 a month. The thing is, I lived within my means. I lived in a fairly shytty apartment in Jersey City with a roommate which made my rent $850. I could have lived in Manhattan, or I could have gotten a nicer place in Jersey City. But instead, I chose a two-bedroom on the second floor of a walk-up built in 1902 because it was totally livable (I like to say it had charm), but it was cheap. I didn't deserve to live in a beautiful apartment in NYC because I was 25 and making $45,000 in the NYC metropolitan area. These millennial college grads making $45,000 in NYC think they deserve the same lifestyle that 35-40 year old lawyers/bankers that make $150,000+ live in NYC, and that's called being entitled. The fact is, people making $45,000 and $150,000 should not be living the same lifestyle, but often they do and what happens is the person making 45k racks up $105,000 debt a year because they are living like they make 150k, and then they complain about all the debt they have and demand higher paying jobs.

you are correct. But understand that immigration is being used in the western world to combat most of what you're complaining about (but lol at the Europeans who are stuck with a source that will annihilate their culture).

Supply and demand, economics. Eventually, even the STEM degrees will fall to the same principles as the global world without borders becomes reality.

it wasn't so much lucking into a good market for the boomers as it is currently a civilization-wide shift toward cultural and societal degeneracy. it's all tied together: birth control, girls becoming sluts, working more like men, girls becoming more masculine, guys becoming more feminine, immigration of 3rd worlders, increased welfare usage, producers being taxed heavily, cost (and value) of college going through the roof, and all kinds of economic factors. I could go on for hours. all of these "progressive" policies have led to a war on nature: an attack on the family, attack on masculinity, attack on national sovereignty, and on and on. when you battle the natural way of things, you lose. we're all losing right now. I'm looking forward to a return of sanity. a return to working with human nature instead of pretending it doesn't exist.

I'm not bitter as I've done pretty well through it all, but it makes me sad that so many struggle so much when they have everything that was necessary to be legit successful a generation or two ago.

it will be a beautiful day when women once again realize that they're happiest at home with the kids, and we have a situation where men are able to support their families on their income alone through hard work and determination, even without a great education. those were the happiest days so far I think. that's much closer to the natural state than where we are now where in some circles even gender is considered a social construct. piss earth.

Cost of living is a problem because of lifestyle inflation and people thinking a publix cashier needs an iPhone 10.

Houses are at least 2x bigger than 30 years ago
Cars are now mobile computers and everyone has 2
TVs and other electronics are everywhere, all costing a monthly subscription fee

I could go on and on, if you buy a 1,000 sqft house, an affordable basic car, and only essential electronics, as well as do your own home/car maintenance, like people did 30 years ago you'd be surprised how affordable it is

Agreed so much; primitive brains in an advanced society. You can only do so much with your hardware.

Its like this weird form of self-hate going on.

Thats why

Exercise
Eating decently
Having a social circle

Are HUGE main drivers of happiness.

Once we stray too far away from these things, i think chit will hit the fan; due to aforementioned brain hardware

Houses are not 2x bigger than 30 years ago in many places in the country. Not sure where you're getting that idea from.
Commuting is a basic fact of life for many people now and that requires a car. Cars are expensive as **** now. I'm looking at 6-8 year old cars to save money and they're still expensive.
Agree about the electronics. I have a 250 dollar flat screen and a 6 year old laptop. Still, internet and phone bills are a basic service to function in the western world now.

I think you're basing a lot of what you're thinking off of certain areas of the US. For a lot of states, this isn't the reality. Also, doing your own car maintenance? Sure, for oil changes and maybe tire rotations. Even then, if you're scraping by in an apartment complex, you're not going to be able to do that either. It costs a lot of money to be poor sometimes.

Millennials don't think like that dummy. College grads on $45k salary aren't expecting to live in penthouses, I know for sure I'm not. All of what you said are assumptions. Hell most Millennials are moving into small houses + living with roommates to avoid crazy debt. Idk how mainstream it is, but Tiny Houses is a real thing.

If anything millennials are tired of sht government and corporations that have been raping boomers. Us Millennials are all about efficiency which is where the term Working Smart comes from. Avoiding 30 year mortgages, Making College cheaper, Working less hours more efficiently, and retiring at a reasonable age. All that crap boomers do is outdated. We are the generation that's fighting the wageslave lifestyle. America has been slowly going down hill, the rich are getting richer and boomer ideas aren't gonna work. While you slaved away some guy made $100k streaming video games online.

Millennials got cucked by boomers but they can still make it if they put in the effort, it’s just harder than it was for boomers.

However, on the whole (being key phrase here) its substantially harder for millennial to succeed than their parents generation.

Example
They used to give out 120% mortgages (no deposit? Thats ok, dont worry about it, here have an extra 20% on top to buy furniture)
Didnt give a fuk about affordability/salary (whereas now its only 4-5x your salary they will lend you)
My parents bought my childhood home for £285K and sold 12-13 years later for £1.2M (brb £1M for doing nothing in almost 10 years)
Second house they bought for £395K, 7 years later worth £850K
Everything was cheaper, but salaries still remain around the same.

Boomer generation all remortgaged their homes, used credit cards to pay off credit cards and as a result - have zero money to retire on. Now they stay in corporate jobs when theyre like 60+ and you have millenial interns on like £12K a year, living hand to mouth when theyre 30 years old - because there isnt the space within the company structure because the old ****s are retiring.

Honestly, Unless youre like a doctor or something admirable - whenever I see people working when theyre 55-60+ I just think theyre pathetic and obviously didnt have their **** together.
You live in the UK and not in the US so my following comments are not direct reflections of your environment. We do have some of the same situations in the US so my comments will be applicable to US bros....

In the US LOL if you think the banks gave away loans. Yes they gave away loans before the housing crisis but that wasnt the boomers generation and it was a disaster. One of my parents first house had a 17% mortgage rate and they had to put 20% down. There were no government programs and if you didnt have a cosigner back then you werent getting anything. The rate in the US right now is 4-5%. You can get a loan so much easier these days with all of the social programs it isnt even funny.

Some areas where your parents have purchased houses have drastically increased in price. You arent owed to live where your parents live. There is always an up and coming market and you can move there and enjoy the same type of inflation your parents enjoyed....BUT the millennial generation wants a safety net. They want to be a mile from mommy and daddy in the event things might go sideways. The same generation that doesnt want to learn to drive a car...

A company I previously worked for outsources jobs to India not because they wanted to save money but they couldnt find millennials with a work ethic. We were signing extended contracts with people nearing retirement age and allowing retirees to work as contractors because the millennials didnt want to learn older technologies that was "beneath" them. We didnt have room for 2,000 people in marketing or working as "influencers". The company gave up hiring millennials, outsourced all the entry level jobs and was literally waiting for automation to save their work force in 10 plus years...

I've worked my way up in a company and will retire in about 10 years if the market holds. I can tell you without a doubt some of the most pathetic professional experiences I've had in my career have been interviews with Millennials. I've had the parents of candidates call and ask if they could attend an interview (dead srs). I've had the first question be "how much vacation do we get". I've asked candidates what they know about the company and the response I've been given was "You have a work from home policy and you allow your employees to travel to interesting places". I've been asked if they got an office when applying for an internship....I've been asked if there is a free lunch program......ONE percent of millennials actual have drive and want to work....and people fight over this small group of millenials. If you have any ounce of hard work in you as a millennial you have a golden ticket.

I think the OP is onto something. In my opinion the US has been in recession since the 70's, we have never really recovered since the that gas crisis and the first major amnesty bill which has wiped out probably 70 million middle class incomes, that's just a ballpark estimate, but we all know the damage the cultural changes have had. Then the right wingers deregulated and were anti union to give us the full kosher sandwich.
So we are on our way to 50 years of zero gains in prosperity, and so the boomers have nothing to show, they might even have record low grandkids, IDK, but it's sad

I don't know what up these millennials!

I paid out of pocket for a University education (University of Arizona) while working minimum wage ($4.25/hr). In-state tuition and fees was a whopping $990/semester. What's wrong with today's youths? If I can do it, so can today's kids!

Always been silver spoon fed and think it just comes down to "ambition" and other simple things while their parents have helped them sooo much. Literally every piece of furniture in their house are hammedowns from his parents.

I didnt get any

He has a 400k building that he only got because of his parents. He couldnt afford anything like this for me and my brothers.

His mom, just dropped 30k for him for a truck (hes 57 years old). Meanwhile my pops only got my oldest bro a car. My youngest bro and i didnt get one until like 19-20.

Hes the most racist, ignorant dude out of the family and a lot of it has to do with his spoiledness imo. The audacity to speak on financial matters while youve inherited all your chit..hokay
6 studies on how money affects the mind.

"Finding #1: We rationalize advantage by convincing ourselves we deserve it

The study: In a UC Berkeley study, Piff had more than 100 pairs of strangers play Monopoly. A coin-flip randomly assigned one person in each pair to be the rich player: they got twice as much money to start with, collected twice the salary when they passed go, and rolled both dice instead of one, so they could move a lot farther. Piff used hidden cameras to watch the duos play for 15 minutes.

The results: The rich players moved their pieces more loudly, banging them around the board, and displayed the type of enthusiastic gestures you see from a football player who’s just scored a touchdown. They even ate more pretzels from a bowl sitting off to the side than the players who’d been assigned to the poor condition, and started to become ruder to their opponents. Moreover, the rich players’ understanding of the situation was completely warped: after the game, they talked about how they’d earned their success, even though the game was blatantly rigged, and their win should have been seen as inevitable. “That’s a really, really incredible insight into how the mind makes sense of advantage,” Piff says."

just lol.

also, while i agree that you shouldnt waste money on luxuries like phones and eating out if you're broke, you cant do basic math if you think cutting back on those expenses would allow her to move out and like, buy a house or something.

she couldnt buy a house even if she did the things you suggest.
What makes you think someone is entitled to a house?

Safe to say millennials are also dating the worst batch of women yet?
Death is impossible for us to fathom: it is so immense, so frightening, that we will do almost anything to avoid thinking about it. Society is organized to make death invisible, to keep it several steps removed. That distance may seem necessary for our comfort, but it comes with a terrible price: the illusion of limitless time, and a consequent lack of seriousness about daily life. We are running away from the one reality that faces us all.

Yes, some of them are from dumb choices (50k college loan for a communications degree) but the issue is wages and cost of living. About 2% of the posts even mention this while everyone else is raging on like a bunch of idiots about people being lazy.

Society needs certain things to function:

-police
-fire
-EMS
-garbage collectors
-teachers (unless you home school)
-etc etc

Almost all of these jobs (except maybe Fire and a SOME areas for police) give you pay that was roughly the same in 1995 or so. Meanwhile the cost of living is skyrocketing and no one who does the jobs that make society function can afford anything. Congratulations if you got a STEM degree and make 120k a year. (srs) But that doesn't matter. You don't make society function, you made it for yourself and the problems for the rest of the crumbling infrastructure are still there. That's why these threads are a joke. DERP, I MAKE GOOD MONEY. **** ALL OF YOU. That doesn't help. There are extreme problems that are so bad that it's eventually going to lead to a permanent lower class of people. These are the same people that show up when your grandma dies or you need help. These are the same people that teach your kids math and science. These are the same people who keep the bridges from collapsing. If you think everything is good because you're driving your Audi to work, you're an idiot.
Well everywhere in the West struggles with automation decimating jobs and that's only going to get worse. But in the US, you have 2 extra factors killing wages:

1. Half the country thinks minimum wages are the Devil because that's what their GOP masters tell them while snickering and counting their money like Scrooge McDuck.

2. You have 11 million illegals depressing wages and while Dem elites actively betray US citizens by supporting illegals, GOP elites are perfectly fine with it because they sold their souls to businesses.

TL;DR your political system is fukking you in the ass

I'm in my 30's, I work with a bunch of people in their 50's and 60's, biggest bunch of pussies I've ever met, I'd murk them all with the most disgusting ferocity ever put on display in the history of mankind.
