It's depressing how many DYELs have big deadlifts

Deadlifts 520, no physique.

Last week I posted a video of Tom Martin pulling 771 while having zero physique to speak of. Just looks like your normal everyday non lifter.

Goes to show that deadlifts are all neural efficiency and genetics.

He is now, but I posted a vid of him pre-drugs. He was on dat dere twink status (srs).

I only posted the thread a few days ago. Also lettuce be realtea, a 520 deadlift is impressive to anyone who isn't in the gymcel lifting minority. Let's take a step back for a second and let this sink in.

Starting to realize this more and more. Brb would probably max out at a 360 deadlift but would take my physique over 90% of people who deadlift 500+.

It's one of the lifts you can lift a good weight in, without looking like you lift

Like it's way more rare to see someone that even benches 225 without looking like they lift

You could build a 100 times better physique doing nothing but pushup variations, situps and squats with the occasional pull-ups. And eating right of course.

I am the resident powerlifting hater and i'll tell you: Deadlift and squat based workouts are garbage.

Fully body workouts based on compound lifts are the way to go.

Well I'd say squats are good for building legs. Deadlifts, I'm starting to doubt they're really good for anything. Maybe a bit of hamstring, a bit of glute, a bit of back. The toll they take on recovery though doesn't seem worth it, especially from a physique building perspective.

I feel like I match this description.

6'3". 184lbs(lightest I've been in years). Deadlift is my best lift at 480lbs.

But I have the 260lb bench and 345lb squat, so I'm conflicted.

This. Anything under 585 isn't really a big deadlift

And tom has more muscle than you ever have or will
Awesome pics. Great size. Look thick. Solid. Tight. Keep us all posted on your continued progress with any new progress pics or vid clips. Show us what you got man. Wanna see how freakin' huge, solid, thick and tight you can get. Thanks for the motivation.

Not in that video I posted last week he isn't. And anyone can get "joocy as fuk" if they hop on orange juice (hence "juicy as fuk")

Another display of autistic gymcel standards. Not everyone's a powerlifter, if a guy on the street can deadlift 500 he's universally considered a strong guy unless you spend too much time hanging around pseudo-powerlifters on the misc.

Also I would take my physique over Tom Martin's ANY DAY of the week. He went from scrawny to huge, but I can't get that big natty and wouldn't want to anyway. (Inb4 cope because my goals are different to someone else's)

520 really isn't that much.

This just sounds like a cope thread, you jealous that twinks can out deadlift you?

Perhaps you should work harder on your deadlift so you can stop coping, instead of making threads on the misc.

I'm sharing the fact that deadlifts are basically a waste of time for building a physique. The recovery to muscle stimulation tradeoff simply isn't worth it. They're good for strength, aaaaand that's pretty much it.

Tom Martin is a freak of nature.

He broke Ed Coan's 30 year old world junior deadlift record.

Just LOL @ comparing him to normal DYEL's.

Well i think you're wrong and this is a cope.

Are they crucial for physique? Maybe not, but my back is built on pretty much deadlifts/pullups/rows. A big deadlift builds a thick lower back and thick spinal erectors which not only has many practical uses, but also improves aesthetics.

This argument just goes round and round again but if you're a fat fuk and have a big deadlift you'll be dyel, if you're decently lean and have a big deadlift you'll look like you lift.
That's assuming you're not a manlet who pulls sumo with a rounded back, in which case you'll still look dyel even with a big deadlift.

Guy in OP looks lean, decent deadlift, but still DYEL status.

On the other hand, show me a DYEL who can strict press his bodyweight. Probably not gonna happen

This is cope.

Deadlifts are not a 'bodybuilding' exercise, never have been.

A 'thick' lower back can only increase waist size and reduce overall V taper.

Most old school bodybuilders don't deadlift.

What exactly would it be a cope for?

I do deadlifts, i have a decent deadlift, i don't really care if others want to do them or not, it's just my take on it. Personally i think having large spinal erectors is an aesthetic look.

Also, tons of old school bodybuilders do deadlift too, i'm not sure why you think MOST didn't. A ton didn't probably, but old school bodybuilding is largely based around the fundamental movements... guys like arnold and franco frequently dead lifted, both deadlifting 700+
