I don't really agree with these crash type diets that people do like PSMF and Keto. That's not teaching you how to eat healthy long term, which it seems you need to learn. Why not make it a lifestyle change instead of a crash diet? Eat at a deficit, track your macros, and eat a well rounded diet?

Duh. I know it gives a quick fix. But he's going to gain it all back after doing some drastic crash diet. He needs to learn how to eat to maintain a healthy body weight to keep it up long term.

That doesn't work for me. I did the traditional thing for a year with zero change.

There is no way you ate at a proper deficit and didn't lose any weight. What is the traditional thing?

The traditional thing is not having any idea how many calories you are consuming, failing to lose weight, and blaming it on something other than your energy balance over that period. ;-)

I don't gain it all back. I was 257 at my fattest during my marriage and averaged 238.

Since I turned 40 I average about 212 low as 185 and high as 220.

I met my ex wife at 215 at 26.

I bulk during summer due to work.

Too much truth. People make fun of me for the way I eat, but it works so I stick with it. I measure everything I eat during the week days.

Leo pls.......... maths is hard. lol What do averages have to do with it? Instead of staying consistent in a 5 or so lb weight range you're all over the place. That's not good for you, especially at our age.

During the summer that's impossible.

I'm in hotels and driving all over the country and expending tons of calories. If I don't replace what I spend I won't have the energy to do my work the next day.

If you spend some time tracking now while things aren't chaotic, you will get reasonably good at estimating and you can start to eat more intuitively during those more erratic seasons. When you spend time eating at a very measured caloric intake, you start to learn your own hunger and satiety signals for a given energy balance. The fact that it will be harder to measure and control during the summer is not a valid excuse for failing to do it now, rather it's the very justification for doing it now.

My maintenance is probably only around 2k.

It will take me a few days to get into swing I just bought 6lbs of boneless skinless breast.
3k calories over 3 days.
Some dill pickles
1 pound of bbq 810 calories
And a package of pepperoni slices to curb myself. I actually count out a serving which is 15 slices 150 calories.

I'm going to start at 2000 calories a day for the first week and see if I lose anything.

Good luck, I'm on the same path. Just eating less and trying to stay full on liquids. I lost my appetite due to stress / depression so I lost fat and now im continuing the momentum. Once u see progress it becomes easier. I snack on nuts all day, small protein meals, milk and coffees to keep me full and only veggies and protein for dinner. Dieting and nutrition has been biggest challenge and hindrance for me my whole life. Not sure how long I can keep it up. Right now I'm wearing 6kg ankle weight on each leg around the house and doing knee ups while watching tv

The pepperoni is for fat and to curb hunger pains until I'm in full swing.

The BBQ is one meal 810 cals and probably 60g protein.

Overweight people shouldn't 'bulk'. Unless you've got visible abs when your at your lightest then you shouldn't be bulking and putting on fat.

Eat healthier and you'll have energy. You realize a lot of high level IFBB pro's spend a large portion of the year living in and out of hotels and eating on the road right? Discipline is key.

You have a fukked up diet and that's not going to cut it. I don't buy the calorie label as being accurate on processed/premade food items.

Assuming I eat 2000-2300 calories per day based on pre-packed foods, and keep a decent macro profile. I maintain about the same bodyfat level as when I eat 3000-3300 calories per day of steak, bison, white rice, red peppers, carrots and sweet potatoes/potatoes. (Vertical diet) Obviously I have a better macro profile. But the main difference is eating meat and rice as main nutrient/calorie sources is a lot more accurate to track then going off of some BS label. If your tracking 2K calories per day on that crap your probably actually eating around 3000-3500 calories per day.

If I lived on the road I'd buy an electric rice pot, a small BBQ pit or grill, a quality ice chest, and get a costco membership. I'd still eat the same way I'd just be cooking all of my own food instead of eating processed crap. More energy + higher quality physique from higher quality food + you can eat a larger amount of food.

Look that's not possible.

During the summer I'm part of a crew of 6 to 14 guys per job.

We have 1 or two vehicles. We eat together and sleep together.

We don't get to cook.

We leave the hotel between 530and 730 depending on how far the job is. We will typically have two 53 foot trailers a day of furniture.

We unload on to the ground by hand.

Unbox all the furniture and install it.

We do 25k steps a day on average but some buildings have no elevator so you're carrying 200 to 400 pieces up stairs a day. At Hampton it was a 5 story building and the temperature in the stairs was 110.

At the end of a day we go back to the hotel shower and head to a restaurant as a group.

Reload on calories go back to hotel get in bed and repeat.

There is no room in the SUV for grills. I'm not going to uber to get supplies and if your ass isn't in the car on time in the morning you get left.

It's not the type of thing where you have control over much foodwise.

If you're gaining weight while doing all of that physical activity you're srsly f'ing up somewhere with your eating. What do you guys typically eat? Fast food?

Well depends on drive day or work day.

Drive day depending on distance and time we will stop somewhere quick on the way and hit an outback, Longhorn or something on the way.

Last week we had a short trip to St Augustine from Raleigh. Left the house at 1130am.

Stopped at Hardee's in Carthage Burger and Fries my only food for the day.

Did a small install in Pinehurst at 145.

Left and got a diet coke at 220.

Stopped at Texas Roadhouse in Savannah at 645 got a 23oz bone in Ribeye, house salad, plain Potato. Couple of rolls. Eat 60 to 70% of steak and save rest for breakfast.

Get to Hotel at 10 PM.

Get up at 6 finish plain steak and have 1 chocolate milk in lobby.

Do install from 730 to 1pm carrying furniture to second story. Desks, queen beds, chairs tables and two drawer dressers are done solo. Twin beds are solo.

Only sofas and 5 drawers are team lifts.

They want seafood. I don't eat seafood we stop at a place on the beach. I'm starving and get a burger and fries.

For dinner we stop at a truck stop and get 2 hot dogs and a donut because we want to be home before midnight.

It's quite often we don't get back till 2 to 4 am.

So that was a short day.

Typically it's hotel free breakfast.

Subway or someplace close to the jobsite, mom and pop pizza, deli, Chinese whatever.

Dinner is going to be Olive Garden, Longhorn, Buffalo Wild Wings, something along those lines. Mexican place. Just depends what city we're in and what's close to the hotel.
