A lot of posts like "Well what about this! HUH?" Nothing is set in stone, if their is no viable alternative I will keep what I have for now. This isn't all or nothing.
In saying that I know I can be out of the Google Ecosystem without much issue so that is the first goal.
Here are some other interesting tools I am looking at to clean up a bit too:

This is actually a really good goal.
I already don't do any social media and use Brave web browser so I think I could come pretty close to accomplishing this.

Dropbox is actually one of the better companies. Running their own hardware.
Built their own datacenter and recently they made a deal with AMD to buy lots of EPYC cpus.
They are also one of the very few large companies that are using Python with a commercial application.

Although they did have a data breach in 2012 which gave away email addresses and passwords

I've been contemplating this as well, maybe a bit more extreme though. Absolutely no internet or TV and only using a basic flip phone. Live off-grid or at least in a fairly remote area and raise a family. Dats the dream mane.
I feel like I will do this eventually. For now though I just can't as my only source of income is through the internet.

Good to do all of this if you don't want private companies tracking you, but virtually pointless now if you live in Australia with the bs bill that just got passed. While the world moves on with cutting edge tech, us aussies will be in our caves sending out smoke signals while politicians debate the merits of banning fire.

Its simply not possible to give backdoor access without compromising the entire internet, secondly the Australian government can ask someone like private internet access for data all it wants but it doesnt keep any logs so cant give them anything.

might join you in this quest in 2019, mainly for social media. I just scroll aimlessly on it, never post anything and it's a big waste of time.
Would love to go no smart phone, but due to work and stuff, having my email and google maps on it, is nice

I thought about doing this, but in the end it's a lost cause. Nearly every single website you visit is being tracked by Google, regardless of what browser you're using or what accounts you own.

No evidence whatsoever that these alternative services do not do shady ****.
Also, for a guy working in Big Tech you seem pretty clueless as to what type of mapping (a person to online activity) technology Big Tech has - unless you go the real definition of living off the grid this is impossible.
You do you do though.

why do you describe removing technology with some fantastic functionality as if it is a list of junk food you will be cutting out. I don't get it?
