After being proven wrong time and time again, I’m surprised any libs still trust the media and still parrot these articles on here with letting them simmer for a week and be proven false.

the media pushes these stories hard for a few days until its overwhelmingly proven false yet again

just enough to try and keep the Trump / Russia narrative alive

its at a laughable point now only the truly brainwashed (victims of the MSM) still believe this

you already have MSM commentators and articles out there trying to play this down because they know the results will be unfulfilling (womp-womp)

I agree with you that all the stuff with the clinton foundation looks bad and I think the mere appearance of a conflict of interest regarding the foundation hurt her during the election. I agree that this is well deserved criticism of Clinton.
But you are worried about an international businessman doing business prior to being in any position of political power?
I’m a capitalist, so it doesn’t bother me that Trump is a businessman. I favor businessmen. Businessmen and business owners should be involved in politics

What bothers me is Trump himself. He’s a crook. We know he committed massive tax fraud, cheated his subcontractors, and so on.

It doesn’t even bother me that he sold condos to Russian oligarchs prior to assuming office. What bothers me is that these transactions appear to have influenced his actions as President and he is still profiting, to this day, from foreigners buying his properties and visiting his hotels. The framers of the Constitution predicted crooks might do this so that’s why they put the emoluments clause into the Constitution.

The big problem with Trump is that he still retains control of his companies, what he should have done is put them in a blind trust or sold them. And this holds true for Ivanka and Jared as well..
I’m still not sure why I waste my time with you.
I like arguing. It’s fun.
You’ve made up your mind and no facts or logic can possibly sway that.
It’s funny. That is exactly what I think about you.

It’s not very honest of you to call these things fake news stories.

Trump shouldn’t be destroying notes of meetings even if Tillerson is with him during those meetings.

For those meetings where it’s just Trump and Putin and the translators the public should have access to what transpired during those meetings.

And the the idea that the FBI opened a counter-intelligence investigation into Trump immediately after Comey being fired is big news in and of itself and the media was right to report it.

If the news about Trump makes Trump look bad it’s because Trump is doing things that make him look bad.

Deny, deflect, and dismiss...

The big problem here is you are feeding yourself false information. You don’t want to believe Trump is a crook, and I get that, he’s your hero, it’s hard to admit he’s a bad person.

With respect to tax fraud the NYT laid out significant evidence Trump and his family committed massive tax fraud. They will not be punished for this as most of it is beyond the statutes of limitations:

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/...red-trump.html

With respect to campaign finance violations Cohen plead guilty to them and that is part of the reason why he is going to jail for 3 years. It is true that Campaign finance law makes it hard for prosecutors to put someone away for a felony because they need to prove the defendant “knowingly and willfully” committed the crime. That’s an exceptionally difficult thing to do. But we now must contend with the have the fact that Cohen and American Media are cooperating with prosecutors. Cohen plead guilty to the crime, and because of Cohen’s plea and their cooperation there is now significant publicly available evidence that Trump broke the law. The SDNY even went so far as to reference Trump as a co-conspirator. This is not yet sufficient evidence to suggest Trump, without a doubt, did something wrong, but it’s far more than nothing. The idea this stuff is fake news is wrong. Trump is in serious potential trouble here.

You are being fed a lie regarding the law. Trump supporters and propagandists, desperate to defend Trump, have spread the lie that a campaign expense has to be 100 percent related to the campaign or it cannot be considered an expense. This is not true, and the judge in the Edwards case said that the expense doesn’t need to be 100 percent related to the campaign. And the reason why the prosecutors in the Edwards case lost is not because they misunderstood the law, but because they couldn’t prove to the jury Edwards knowingly and willfully violated the law based on the facts presented.

1) Trump has said he never destroyed notes. So that is a false narrative.

2) The FBI had no business opening an investigation into trump at that time. This is narrative control. At some point, details of the international spying operation on trump will go mainstream-- the UK, AUS, etc. all involved. The FBI is trying to cover their own ass at the moment. The article says that the FBI thought they had justification to do so because "trump asked Russia to hack Clinton" which is objectively false. Trump merely joked that if Russia HAD the deleted emails, they should bring them forward. The other reasons relate to policy decisions by trump and the republicans, and it's not the FBIs responsibility to police policy decisions. Objectively, they never softened their stance toward Russia, that is a hoax. And who cares if Trump wasn't super vocal against Russia during the campaign? If that now a crime worth investigation?

The FBI knows what the future holds, and they are using their media allies (as they previously have with circular reporting, and as outlined in the IG report) to shape a narrative of plausible deniability. It's an "Opps, my bad" level of butt covering that people like you will soak up because you hate Trump, but people that respect the Republic, the constitution, individual rights, etc. will see the gross abuse of power by the IC.

You can justify in your head every illegal move by the IC to spy on team Trump in an effort to sway the election because you have a preconceived notion that he is guilty of SOMETHING. But in your responses, you claim a moral superiority that is based on your love for the republic and constitution. It doesn't add up.

um, Cohen did not PLEAD guilty to campaign finance - he admitted guilt in a written statement. HUGE difference.

the NYT would have to commit felonies (having other people's tax filings) for them to be able to make those accusations with knowledge - pretty telling

You act like this is a joke. The NYT outlined a pretty convincing case indicating the Trump family avoided paying 500 million dollars in taxes by engaging in various kinds of fraud and deceit. This wasn’t like a situation where they engaged in a little creative accounting or deducted a little more than they should have. What they did was a big a deal.

The way he treated sub-contractors is also a problem. And there are numerous, well-supported, publicly available accounts of contractors getting screwed over by Trump. And you, for some reason, think it’s no big deal, but what if you were one of the sub-contractors they got stiffed. Did you ever consider things from their perspective?

The problem for our country is not that the President is now not presently in prison for these crimes, but that a crook isn’t likely to stop being a crook while in office.

HAhAHahaha...

Wait. Hold on here.

Let me get this straight.

I don’t think Trump said that. The news reports indicate Conway said that. At least that’s what I’ve read.

But, let’s assume he did say that, are you suffering under the delusion that if Trump says something then it must be true?

Have you not reached the conclusion yet that Trump is a pathological liar?

Do you honestly believe at this point that when Trump opens his mouth he’s speaking the truth? Are you serious?

No more or less than any other politician, or news outlet.

What we do know is that during Trumps transition, people somehow got access to and leaked his conversations with foreign leaders. The same is true for Flynn, and even worse, Flynn was probably illegally unmasked during his conversation. THAT is the political climate that Trump is dealing with. Not that there was anything illegal in these conversations... but the contents could threaten his international relationships and national security. Is it wrong for Trump to try to keep the contents of these conversations private, especially given the unprecedented leaking that is/was going on?

How many people have been indicted for leaking the contents of these conversations? How about the Flynn conversation. There was no pressing matters of national security that should have led to him being unmasked, and his conversation fell right into the lap of reporters... there should be a Very easy paper trail to see who did that... but there aren't any charges for these felonies. Even Wolfe, who leaked the entire declassified FISA application to the media, only got 3 months in jail for 1 count of lying to the FBI... and his actual crime was almost entirely hidden aside from actual reporters picking up on it, and eventually a report with an FBI agent specifically saying he leaked the FISA documents came out.

There is a concerted effort to trash the Trump admin, and the ones running that effort are also protecting their own along the way. If you are being honest with yourself, you will admit it.

The problem is it’s super hard to prove a person knowingly and willfully violated the rules. That’s why prosecutions where people are being sent to jail are so rare. In Trump’s case I suspect Cohen has an audio recording of Trump knowingly and willfully violating the law. And it’s not just Cohen. They also have American Media.
As far as a New York Times article sorry they put out too much fake news, but let's say for example its true. ....guess what?
They published actual evidence, the invoices with regard to the fake company they used to pad invoices to avoid taxes on the transfers of wealth to the Trump family are linked to from the article. Dismissing the article as “fake news” isn’t going to work in this instance.
I hate the IRS and I salute anybody avoids paying them money.
Nobody likes paying taxes, but it’s still everyone’s responsibility.
But even then it's standard practice for the super wealthy to find ways to sheild money. they all do it every single one of them.
It is standard practice to lobby Congress for tax breaks and to make sure the tax structure favors the wealthy and the accumulation of wealth via investment structures which aren’t taxed or are taxed significantly less than other methods.

It’s not standard practice to make fake companies, engage in creating fake invoices, to avoid paying taxes. Criminals do this. The Mafia does this. And apparently Trump does this.
As long as we're not in any stupid wars and theeconomy is strong, I could give a f*** what the Trump family did 25 years ago
Yeah, I sort of already got the sense Trump supporters don’t care Trump is a crook. Fortunately, the majority of the country does care.

Is the narrative changing to imply that some business dealings with Russia prior to 2016 = substantial motivation to erode American foreign policy in favor of Russia? I want to see the dart board you and the media are using to come up with this stuff.

Trump is a traitor.
Trump is an authoritarian.
Trump is a Russian agent.
Trump is unpatriotic.
Business dealings with Russia prior to 2016 are bad.
Trump is a racist.
Trump is a bigot.
Trump is a misogynist.

The list/narratives go on and on and on, we get it, you don't like Trump. I'm sure when the Mueller report concludes, the main issue that'll be thrusted into the public eye is the obstruction narrative involving the Comey firing and guess what - Trump won't be going anywhere.

The list/narratives go on and on and on, we get it, you don't like Trump. I'm sure when the Mueller report concludes, the main issue that'll be thrusted into the public eye is the obstruction narrative involving the Comey firing and guess what - Trump won't be going anywhere.

What's the point of this? Trump could sell half of California to Putin and the sheep of America won't do chit about it other than make noise and let it slide.
Thus let me live, unseen, unknown;
Thus unlamented let me die;
Steal from the world, and not a stone

Northern or southern half?

I would cheer if it was the southern.

Tell us more about the Russian lawyer who reached out to Trump Jr., who met with Fusion GPS the day before and after the meeting, who states that she got all of her talking points from Fusion GPS. The same Fusion GPS who has Oleg Deripaska and Hillary Clinton as clients. The same Fusion GPS whose head, Glenn Simpson, had to plead the fifth the second time around because he was caught in multiple perjury traps...

The meeting was a set up to anyone with a brain. They tried to get the trump campaign in a quid pro quo, and the trump team walked. It's why nothing has come from it.

The fact is Trump lies a lot more than any other politician or news outlet.

In fact, since the time he took office until December 21st, a 710-day period, he has made 7,645 false or misleading claims.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/polit...ims-over-days/

Trump is in a different universe when it comes to lying compared to the rest of the population, and this includes other politicians.

But, that doesn't really matter for the point I want to make...

You admit Trump has lied in the past.

And, let's assume Trump said he didn't destroy the notes (which I don't think is the case, I think Kellyanne Conway is the one who said this).

So my question to you is simple: how do you know he's not lying now?

You said: "Trump has said he never destroyed notes. So that is a false narrative."

How do you know Trump is not lying about destroying the notes?

It seems like you are just taking Trump's word on it. But, by now, we all know Trump's word cannot be trusted. So there must be something else you are basing your assertion that this is a "false narrative" other than Trump's claims.

In general, how do you know when Trump is lying or when he is telling the truth?

I think it is far more likely Trump is being influenced by Russia due to his financial dealings, ego, kompromat, and greed. Because of his personality and previous actions Trump is partial to Russia or is an unwitting agent of some type, and in either case this is bad for the U.S. because we want the President to be making decisions solely on what's best for the U.S. not what's best for his vanity or pocketbook.

I think it is not very likely he is taking direct orders from Russia.
What was the result of their investigation? And what makes you think that the FBI should be investigating the president based on what exactly? The president exercising his constitutional authority? Gtfo.
There is a lot of publicly available evidence indicating Trump has been compromised or influenced by the Russian government:

Here are 18 reasons Trump could be a Russian asset

By Max Boot

On Friday, the New York Times reported that “in the days after President Trump fired James B. Comey as F.B.I. director, law enforcement officials became so concerned by the president’s behavior that they began investigating whether he had been working on behalf of Russia against American interests.” That investigation may well be continuing under the auspices of special counsel Robert S. Mueller III. We don’t know what Mueller has learned. But we can look at the key, publicly available evidence that both supports and undercuts this explosive allegation.

Here is some of the evidence suggesting “Individual 1” could be a Russian “asset”:

— Trump has a long financial history with Russia. As summarized by Jonathan Chait in an invaluable New York magazine article: “From 2003 to 2017, people from the former USSR made 86 all-cash purchases — a red flag of potential money laundering — of Trump properties, totaling $109 million. In 2010, the private-wealth division of Deutsche Bank also loaned him hundreds of millions of dollars during the same period it was laundering billions in Russian money. ‘Russians make up a pretty disproportionate cross-section of a lot of our assets,’ said Donald Jr. in 2008. ‘We don’t rely on American banks. We have all the funding we need out of Russia,’ boasted Eric Trump in 2014.” According to Trump attorney Michael Cohen’s guilty plea of lying to Congress, Trump was even pursuing his dream of building a Trump Tower during the 2016 campaign with the help of a Vladimir Putin aide. These are the kind of financial entanglements that intelligence services such as the FSB typically use to ensnare foreigners, and they could leave Trump vulnerable to blackmail.

— The Russians interfered in the 2016 U.S. election to help elect Trump president.

— Trump encouraged the Russians to hack Hillary Clinton’s emails on July 27, 2016 (“Russia, if you’re listening”), on the very day that Russian intelligence hackers tried to attack Clinton’s personal and campaign servers.

— There were, according to the Moscow Project, “101 contacts between Trump’s team and Russia linked operatives,” and “the Trump team tried to cover up every single one of them.” The most infamous of these contacts was the June 9, 2016, meeting at Trump Tower between the Trump campaign high command and a Kremlin emissary promising dirt on Clinton. Donald Trump Jr.’s reaction to the offer of Russian assistance? “If it’s what you say I love it especially later in the summer.”

— The Trump campaign was full of individuals, such as Carter Page, George Papadopoulos, Paul Manafort, Rick Gates and Michael Flynn, with suspiciously close links to Moscow.

— Manafort, who ran the Trump campaign for free and was heavily in debt to a Russian oligarch, now admits to offering his Russian business partner, who is suspected of links to Russian intelligence, polling data that could have been used to target the Russian social media campaign on behalf of Trump.

— Trump associate Roger Stone, who was in contact with Russian conduit WikiLeaks, reportedly knew in advance that the Russians had hacked Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta’s emails. (Stone has denied it .)

— Once in office, Trump fired Comey to stop the investigation of the “Russia thing” — and then bragged about having done so to the Russian ambassador and foreign minister while also sharing with them top-secret information. Later, Trump fired Attorney General Jeff Sessions because he would not end the special counsel investigation that resulted after the firing of Comey. As Lawfare editor Benjamin Wittes argues, “the obstruction was the collusion” — Trump has been effectively protecting the Russians by trying to impede the investigation of their attack on the United States.

— Trump has refused to consistently acknowledge that Russia interfered in the U.S. election or mobilize a government-wide effort to stop future interference. He has accepted Putin’s protestations that the Russians did not meddle in the election over the “high confidence” assessment of the U.S. intelligence community that they did.

— Like no previous president, Trump attacks and undermines the Justice Department and the FBI (“a cancer in our country”) — two institutions that stand on the front lines of combatting Russian espionage and influence operations in the United States.

— Again, like no previous president, Trump attacks and undermines the European Union and NATO — he has suggested that France should leave the E.U. and that the United States should leave NATO, reportedly saying, “NATO is as bad as NAFTA.” The E.U. and NATO are the two major obstacles to Russian designs in Europe.

— Trump supports populist, pro-Russian leaders in Europe, such as Viktor Orban in Hungary and Marine Le Pen in France, just as the Russians do.

— Trump has praised Putin (“a strong leader”) while trashing just about everyone else from grade-B Hollywood celebrities to leaders of allied nations. Trump even praised Putin for expelling U.S. diplomats and, notwithstanding instruction from his aides (“DO NOT CONGRATULATE”), congratulated Putin on winning a rigged reelection.

— Trump was utterly supine in his meetings with Putin, principally in Hamburg and Helsinki. Even more suspicious, according to a Post article on Saturday, Trump “has gone to extraordinary lengths to conceal details of his conversations with . . . Putin, including on at least one occasion taking possession of the notes of his own interpreter and instructing the linguist not to discuss what had transpired with other administration officials . . . Several officials said they were never able to get a reliable readout of the president’s two-hour meeting in Helsinki.”

— Trump defends the Russian invasion of Afghanistan and repeats other pro-Russian talking points.

— Trump is pulling U.S. troops out of Syria, handing that country to Russia and its ally Iran.

— Trump has effectively done nothing in response to the Russian attack on Ukrainian ships in international waters, thereby encouraging greater Russian aggression.

— Trump is sowing chaos in the government, most recently with a record-breaking partial government shutdown and “acting” appointees in key posts such as the Defense Department and Justice Department, thus furthering a Russian objective of undermining its chief adversary.

Now that we’ve listed 18 reasons Trump could be a Russian asset, let’s look at the exculpatory evidence:

I can’t think of anything that would exonerate Trump aside from the difficulty of grasping what once would have seemed unimaginable: that a president of the United States could actually have been compromised by a hostile foreign power.

In his own defense, Trump claims he has been tougher on Russia “than any other President,” but literally in the next sentence he says, “getting along with Russia is a good thing, not a bad thing.” When the United States actually has taken steps to get tough with Russia in the past two years, it has usually been the work of Congress (the 2017 Russia sanctions bill) or Trump aides (expelling 60 Russian diplomats). The Post reports that Trump was “furious” when his administration was portrayed as being tough on Russia, and NBC News reports that he instructed subordinates never to publicly discuss plans to sell weapons to Ukraine.

This is hardly a “beyond a reasonable doubt” case that Trump is a Russian agent — certainly not in the way that Robert Hanssen or Aldrich Ames were. But it is a strong, circumstantial case that Trump is, as former acting CIA director Michael Morell and former CIA director Michael V. Hayden warned during the 2016 campaign, “an unwitting agent of the Russian federation” (Morell) or a “useful fool” who is “manipulated by Moscow” (Hayden). If Trump isn’t actually a Russian agent, he is doing a pretty good imitation of one.
So. Mr. GTFO....what is your response to this?
And are you really arguing that the public should have knowledge of a private conversation between two world leaders?
To the degree it does not compromise national security, yes. But according to the news about this there appears to be a concerted effort on Trump's part to hide even information which could be recorded and stored as classified information, available to other branches of Government and participants of the Executive Branch.
Doc had but three redeeming traits. One was his courage; he was afraid of nothing on Earth. The second was the one commendable principal in his code of life, sterling loyalty to friends. The third was his affection for Wyatt Earp.
