Do you know why McDonald's works? You know why they are so successful?

Because they have a duplicatable system. It's exact.

There's no guessing they don't teach new owners by saying well this is what I intuitively did.

Some people weigh raw and others weigh cooked. Whatever method you're using just stick with it because it comes down to consistency. Stop over thinking and making things more difficult than it needs to be.

Set your deficit and stay within your calorie limits. Stay consistent with your exercise and the changes will come.

That's it there are no magic tricks.

Alright I'm going to stay on 1800 for 2 more weeks that will make 4 weeks total. (Except for refeed) after that if nothing happens I guess I have to drop to 1300 to get a 500 decrease.

Most apps have cooked vs uncooked cal count. I can't speak specifically to Fat Secret, but Myfitnesspal does.

Truthfully consistency matters more because you are going to need to adjust it for you anyway. The BMR estimate they do might be completely different from where you are at.

Over a several week period you will learn what yours REALLY is and be able to adjust accordingly.

The answer is YMMV. I mean, I'm sorry, but that's kind of the answer to all questions. Some people weigh raw, which is typically considered the "right" answer. However, if you decide to weigh cooked, as long as you ALWAYS weigh cooked and stay consistent, you're still pretty much ok. Pick one and stick with it.

Kimm4/thread...well said

I always weigh my chicken cooked but that's just for my personal convenience.
But it doesn't really matter; cooked or uncooked, it's just a metering device.

Leo, your % doesn't matter; themethodof tracking doesn't really matter as long as it's consistent and accurate; if your weight doesn't drop, you simply need to drop the amount of cals you consume...raw or cooked...doesn't matter

Long term consistency wins this race bud. There are no shortcuts

I started my cut thread on 12/8 according to my home scale 7lbs. I was weighing Monday morning and Friday morning first thing.

My weight has fluctuated between 208 and 210. What drives me crazy is it will say 208 in the morning I won't eat or drink anything and an hour later it says 209 or 210.

When I started it was 2lbs a week I was on 2000. Then I saw no change. I dropped to 1800 saw no change on the scale but lifts were going up.

Workout weights
Bench is up 13lbs
Db incline up 10lbs
Squat up 40lbs (just because I haven't Squatted in years)

I was told I was counting wrong so I got a scale and carry it around town like Rainman.

I also got fat secret to log it the second it hits my lips.

After I eliminated that I was told I was still counting wrong that it's impossible for me to do this on 1800.

It's not even 1800 Kim. I round up.
If its 1.6 ounces I often log 2.

14 oz I log a pound. If I get 1.5 lbs of chicken and split it with a date I log the whole 1.5 lbs for me.

Yesterday I couldn't finish all my food but I logged all the calories for yesterday, finished it this morning and will hardly add to it today.

I'm frustrated because everyone says I'm doing it wrong when I am doing exactly what they say.

scales are kinda pieces of chit, can stand on them slightly different or have them shift slightly on the ground and it'll give you a different reading. You should get a myotape measure off amazon and track your measurements weekly, tells you a lot more then the scale.

Yesterday was a refeed so I was aiming for 600 above my cut which coincidentally is the amount the app wants me to cut at 2400. I couldn't eat all of it but logged 2477.

I couldn't finish the last meal and threw away some chicken but logged all of it. I was sick of it.

I don't lift as heavy as when I was younger..50s.
In 2009 I BB shrugged 500lbs, for 2 reps...felt that for days.
I also could push 4 plates per side on the HS Decline press..that ain't happening nowadays.

I do one heavy compound usually for each body part. Then the rest are 'auxiliary' exercises. Some of these I will lift heavier weight but mostly the weight is moderate with higher reps 10-15 range.

I focus on the contraction and stretch of the muscles being trained. I stop or reset, as one does with the deadlift, on all reps. This helps me focus on the working muscle. It also eliminates the rebound reflex. I want feel the muscle that's being trained working.

After a month or two of this type of training I'll switch to a new split.
One that I liked doing was 21s on every body part; legs, back, chest, delts and of course arms.

I also incorporate 100 reps a day or two after I trained a body part.
So today I trained back and in two days I'll do 100 reps for width and 100 reps for thickness.
I use a moderate weight for 5 sets of 20 or 4 sets of 25 reps. I rest between each set.

I've found over the years that I need to change the workout every few months.

I don't train for strength never have.

I train for hypertrophy.

I no longer BB squat or BB flat bench press anymore.

I usually train 5 days/week...it's flexible.
This week;
Su, Tu, Wed, Thurs, Sat.
Some weeks I'll train every other day. It depends on life's schedule.
I make sure I get rest days.
The importance of rest days is overlooked by many younglings.
Rest days are when your muscles repair and grow.

Sorry but I can't understand this.
Carbs?
Fats?
Protein?

It might be some of these food choices.

You ate 24 oz. of chicken breast in a single meal??? Those calories don't look right for 24 oz of chicken breast. Grilled, skinless chicken breast is more like 120-130 cals per 3 oz.

You haven't been dieting that long and you've barely scratched the surface. You're stalled in weight loss and throwing in refeeds (which you absolutely don't need) isn't helping so stop doing them. You just started using a food scale so to say you were eating 2000 calories in the beginning was an estimated guess because you weren't tracking properly at that time.

It's the same quantity calories wise. I just recorded it that way so I didn't have to write a manual entry for it.

1200 cal is 12oz. 6 servings.

Like I often use the subway cucumber entry so I don't have to manually do one once I learned it was the same volume.

Posting for an alternate view here on running vs calorie restriction because there will be no discussion on the nutrition or losing fat forum because the posts I've seen there are dogmatic that it's all about CICO.

I'm posting and looking for opinions because CICO failed for me in my personal experience. The common rebuttal is that CICO always works, that if it didn't that's because you counted calories incorrectly. I know for a fact however that I counted correctly when I tried a CICO approach cut because I did a few PSMF cycles and the food was so restrictive there was no way I got it wrong. I lost the weight I should have but I just looked deflated, this was accounting for refeed. To contrast, when I ran 1-2 miles every other day and ate clean, I lost a little less weight but I had defined abs rather than looking deflated. The CICO rebuttal will probably be that the running and eating clean simply created a similar deficit, but there's no way in hell the deficit was anywhere close due to how severely I restricted when I tried PSMF cutting.

I am starting another cut soon and would like opinions on which approach I should go with. The problem I have with running is that it seems like I would have to drop it eventually when I want to reach a peak level of strength and it would be a waste to condition my body one way then go the opposite direction.
