Do you feel like you need refeeds? Trust me, when you get closer to 10% you'll know if/when you need them. Your body fat % usually determines if you'll require refeeds to boost leptin via a temporary caloric surplus (with the extra cal allowance filled by carbs).

At your %, you probably don't need them.

Found your problem.

I cut on 1800 calories before and due to how active I was, I was starving. I was grateful for every bite of food.

From what I gathered, you're basically a couch potato with a very low TDEE eating 1800 calories and not being able to finish your food...

solution? move more. Add in some sort of physical activity whether it's swimming, boxing, 20k steps, etc. move more.

I don't think I need to mention that you need to be training intensely with the weights.

Consistency is all that matters. I weigh all my food cooked.

Refine your food tracking method, get on a real routine and stop counting **** like sex as your cardio for the day.

Set up your deficit, give yourself a reasonable amount of carbs you can live on and use the same numbers daily.

I'm posting and looking for opinions because CICO failed for me in my personal experience. The common rebuttal is that CICO always works, that if it didn't that's because you counted calories incorrectly. I know for a fact however that I counted correctly when I tried a CICO approach cut because I did a few PSMF cycles and the food was so restrictive there was no way I got it wrong. I lost the weight I should have but I just looked deflated, this was accounting for refeed. To contrast, when I ran 1-2 miles every other day and ate clean, I lost a little less weight but I had defined abs rather than looking deflated. The CICO rebuttal will probably be that the running and eating clean simply created a similar deficit, but there's no way in hell the deficit was anywhere close due to how severely I restricted when I tried PSMF cutting.

I am starting another cut soon and would like opinions on which approach I should go with. The problem I have with running is that it seems like I would have to drop it eventually when I want to reach a peak level of strength and it would be a waste to condition my body one way then go the opposite direction.
you are wrong about cico so i will have to disagree with you there, but i am a yuge advocate that a small amount of cardio everyday while in a deficit gives you some massive benefits over time. I also don't think eating clean matters at all in terms of quality of physique but it will cause an increase in quality of life(relatively speaking). Which can counteract training like chit for weeks on end when you feel like garbage. I think the majority of "lost muscle" is the result of people dropping their intensity in half when they're hungry.

Why are you doing this? You should be trying to be as accurate as possible. If you end up having to adjust your calories down or up, you won't have an accurate baseline to adjust from.

A lot of people in this thread are riled up in this thread and trying to be right. I don't care about being right, I just want to know the correct information so that I can apply it for optimal results. I'm just saying this as a disclaimer, I'm not trying to argue with anyone, I just want correct information.

Anyway, all I can tell you is that I got better results from running than I did from restricting calories and that it can't be explained away as there was a similar deficit with the running approach because I counted precisely. Also there was some confusion about eating clean. I didn't mean eating clean as in same calories, different food choice. I meant I ate whatever I wanted provided it was "clean" foods.

It was a refeed which I won't be doing anymore and I finished it this morning but I've only had 380 calories outside of that today and dinner will be about 780.

So 2400 yesterday and about 1180 today.

I'm a little confused by your post. So CICO failed you because you were't losing weight at all in your calorie deficit created through diet? That's like saying the law of thermodynamics doesn't apply to you. When following PSMF most will look flat/deflated because they're not taking in shi* for carbs.

It actually succeeded in the sense of the weight I lost added up in the ballpark of 3500/lb. It failed in the sense of I got better results from running and eating clean. IK spot reduction is another pet peeve of the CICO crowd but the running seemed to chiseled my abs whereas the PSMF shrunk me a little bit all over. I'm aware of the low carbs making you look deflated. I looked deflated after PSMF even after refeeding.

I'm already convinced that running is the superior option for me to lose fat. The reason I'm still asking for advice is because I want CICO to work. I want to drop running so that I have all of my recovery capacity for lifting.

No I'm hungry AF by the time 10 or 11am roll around. I typically stop eating at 7 trying to stay on a 16hr fast.

But as I said I've been on 30 to 55g carbs a day for about 14 days so I thought I might need it.
